[ Because children setting off on their own at around ten, eleven, twelve, is entirely the measure of how safe someplace is... ]

Or most things are handled on local levels and aren't reporting elsewhere.

I haven't heard, or asked before, but what kind of government is found here?
shiro2hero: (you're really not allowed to do that)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-16 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
[If he knew where she came from, the irony would smack him in the face.]

There IS a police force. Maybe they do handle things, but if there were those kinds of problems, wouldn't we hear about them?

...

A really good question. Wish I had an answer. If there is one, it's not obvious -- and no, I don't know how that works.
lyingheart: (ask | we let it pass us by)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-16 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Have you checked through their records, if they allow the public to access them? If reporting isn't mandated, I doubt anyone will bother to take the time to keep the public aware of the annoyances they deal with.

Surely someone is responsible for the money? Who prints it? Or... whatever it is people here do in order to trade for goods, because it isn't all bartering, that much I know.
shiro2hero: (dramatic dad speech incoming)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-16 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I will be honest with you -- none of these things ever occurred to me to look into. Checking records, looking into money ... it stopped mattering.

Getting by was all I worried about for months when I got here. And then... there were people from home to look after while we were on the road. After that, one thing lead to another, and I was back to just "getting by".

Can I ask why this is something you're so interested in?
lyingheart: anonsanta, let me know who to credit! (accept | and the eyes close)

[ She supposes she can't answer that it's more survival mechanisms kicking in, and the bizarre nature of being able to ask with no one knowing or caring who she is in particular. Also, having striven for so many years to integrate with a culture that wasn't her own, paying attention, knowing these details, understanding what information could be found where, researching, knowing how the government worked? All necessary.

Not what she's going to say, of course, but still true.
]

You just described this as a world where children wandered with animals in peace, but adjusting was so difficult you were just trying to get by for months and not curious about anything structuring the place you were surviving in.

Either way, it's not my interest, exactly. It was part of my job before, and so I wondered.

[ As a soldier? A warrior? As the soldier more. The warrior just needed to know enough to play the system and get in place to where she was needed. The soldier needed to know how to do her job within Wall Sina, and she had, for better and worse. ]
shiro2hero: (SIGHS INTO ETERNITY)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-16 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess... the way I phrased that wasn't the best way. Or made the most sense.

Then again, there's a lot about this place that doesn't make sense. But I think you're the first one who's asked those kinds of questions when they got here. If you run into a man named Ford, he could probably tell you a lot more than I could.

But if you want to talk astronomy or piloting, that, I think I could manage.

[Not to mention, he's never been one to take the best care of himself. So that factored into things. There had been a lot more going on than what he'd told her, as well.]

[Which then made it harder to get by -- a nasty cycle.]

Your job? What was that?
lyingheart: (discuss | and i just can't help)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-16 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ford? I'll keep his name in mind. Thank you.

Astronomy and piloting? Piloting ships? Airplanes?

Ah, I was in the Military Police. Not for long. We'd graduated from training a month or so before.

[ She can guess there was more going on, but her interest was more in the poor explanations and contrast, and how she really can't imagine that "peace" in and of itself doesn't have a cost somewhere. Like in sensibility, given some of the absurdities she's encountered, but no world is really sensible in the first place. ]

He's a smart man -- been here longer, or as long as I have, and he's the type to look into those kinds of things. Or at least have better answers.

Ships. Space shuttles and smaller craft.

[And a giant robot lion, but we'll start small here.]

You're a soldier?
lyingheart: (surprise | stop - take it slowly darling)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-17 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
You come from someplace with functional space travel?

I was. Now I'm apparently a trainer. Who knew.
shiro2hero: (no i dunno the lyrics to Go The Distance)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-17 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I do. I'm guessing you don't?

[A lot of people don't -- especially ones who ask that question.]

Welcome to the trainer club. What did you get as a partner?
lyingheart: anonsanta, let me know who to credit! (ask | the only thing that i ask)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-17 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Our sciences and travel stays Earthbound.

[ So to speak. Imagine Titans: In Space! Much less cool than the DC Teen Titans, and far more om nom death. ]

Ah, what's the kind... Absol. What was yours?
shiro2hero: (oops accidentally charming)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-17 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that. You've probably got good reason -- but I'm always going to be biased for being out of the atmosphere.

[Titans: In Space! sounds like the worst series to ever happen to their world.]

Absol. I don't see those around often. Mine was an Aron but now?

[Annie will be treated to an embarrassing selfie with a big Aggron, who is vigorously licking its trainer's metal arm.]

He's a lot bigger.
lyingheart: (confused | sometimes you wonder)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-17 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ There was an entire podcast for that AU, iirc. Fear when there are Titans: In Space! ]

You might say our resources are limited.

[ It takes her a beat longer since this is ridiculously convenient. She'll try to file his face away just in case, but she examines the Aggron in the meantime. The metal arm captures her interest, but to no end where she questions or asks about it. Does he have full functionality? Curious. ]

I see. He grew to that size? Or is this part of an evolving change?

[That sounds like the scariest podcast ever made.]

Ah. Yeah. You're definitely not alone in that boat. Even here. People from all kinds of worlds turn up here. You won't be alone.

[And hopefully that sounds more like an assurance than not.]

Both, I think. He definitely evolved, but I'm also pretty sure he grew on top of that.

If you say so.

[ She figures that's a matter of how hard she goes out of her way to avoid people or not. She's undecided at this point. ]

The way people talk about these creatures, it's hard for me to tell if any of them grow normally on top of this evolving.

shiro2hero: (may have overestimated there)

[personal profile] shiro2hero 2018-09-17 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I promise so.

[As easy as breathing, those words.]

I think it's both, honestly. Depending on the pokemon.
lyingheart: (consider | a sense of loneliness remains)

[personal profile] lyingheart 2018-09-17 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Should I hold you to it?

[ She won't, but him saying that so easily seems like easy, empty words. ]

Any way of telling other than seeing what happens with regular feedings?
