[ ... isn't this a surprise. Akechi isn't necessarily complaining, but the overall experience of waking up here leaves a few things to be desired. Namely, the fact that it's kind of cold, and that--

... Nevermind. Ugh. Akechi'll just have to deal with that later. He has more things to worry about, anyway, including the fact that he has a companion. ]

Well, best to be on our way. Isn't that right?

[ He addresses the pokemon carefully, and he takes a good look around. There are quite a few people here... maybe you approach him, to which he says-- ]

Ah! Pardon me, I was so distracted by how different everything is here... Can I help you?

[ Or he approaches you, and says, ]

I hope I'm not bothering you, but can you answer a couple of questions? Nothing too personal, I assure you.

[ So, Akechi's been here a good while, and he's gathered enough info to have several questions. It's fairly late at night, but he's sure that won't deter anyone from answering. It's a serious issue, after all. ]

If you could change one thing about this place, what would it be? Personally, the music can be quite grating, especially when one is trying to think. Usually, I wouldn't complain, but I'm not one to appreciate my thoughts' being interrupted.

More than that, however, I've been--like most of you, I'm sure--inconvenienced by these Team Rocket members. Many of them are easy enough to defeat in battle, and yet they're particularly tenacious. It's annoying, isn't it? I imagine there's been action taken to hinder their activities, but they keep causing trouble for everyone here. But for every few weakling grunts, there are several stronger ones. It's interesting, isn't it?

... Pardon me, I rambled a bit there. Impressive feat, considering this is only text. Essentially what I'm getting at is if one were to go about taking care of the issue, how would you suggest doing so?

I realize it's a risk openly defying such a group of people, and I'm effectively painting a target on my back. But the risk will be well worth the reward, don't you think?

[It's a little surprising, being brought here all of a sudden. Things don't seem too terrible, at the very least, so it's not like she's going to be complaining either, but then she's approached.

That voice. She knows that voice.

... And when she turns around to actually look at Akechi, she looks like she's seen a ghost.]

And yeah, stopping people like that can be dangerous. But that's kind of why we HAVE to stop them.

I actually quite like the music! It makes things so very festive and lively, and at night it can be somewhat soothing. It helps me fall asleep, and as I start to wake up, it filters through my ears and helps reassure me that I SHALL awaken.

I cannot say I have met any of these members of "Team Rocket" as of yet. Perhaps that is for the best.

[ Oh.

He realizes his mistake too late. Far too late. That's what he gets for letting his guard down, and now he has to deal with the consequences. Of all the Thieves to run into, there's only one he'd have a worse time dealing with.

The smile he gives her is tight, forced, but it is certainly a valiant effort. ]

Okumura-san. I didn't expect to see you here. I imagine you share the sentiment.

[ Last time they'd met, he'd tried to kill them all. And then he'd sacrificed himself. Ugh. ]

[Well, this is just a fine mess, isn't it? Haru schools her expression into something much less alarmed, offering a sheepish smile.

It's only a little forced. It's fine.]

No doubt about that, Akechi-kun. Should we go sit down? I imagine we have... quite a bit to talk about.

[There's a squeaking from near Haru's feet, as her own companion finally makes itself known. With a soft, much more natural smile, she scoops up the creature into her arms, much to its delight, the Mimikyu's shadowy appendages winding around Haru's neck, hanging onto her much like a child would.

She can sort through her emotions over the situation later. It's fine.]

[ He would much rather play hopscotch on a bed of rusty nails than have a chat with Haru Okumura, but... Fine, he'll play nice. ]

I suppose we do, [ he says in a vaguely strained voice. That smile doesn't budge, but it gets a touch more forced. ] We can have a cup of coffee as well. It's not nearly as excellent as what you'll find at Leblanc, but...

[ Oof. Something flickers in his expression. It's probably nothing. ]

Shall we?

Yes, let's.

[... Though, she does cast him a concerned look. She understands why the strain, and why the forced smile, but that flicker has her worried.

It's strange. To worry like this, even with... Hm. It's a complicated situation.

Still, she can't help but lean in and murmur--]

[ Most people would, perhaps, be touched that someone expresses concern for them.

Unfortunately, this is Akechi.

The look he gives her is carefully arranged... except, before that, he looked. Well. Stunned, with a touch of offense. Nonetheless, he gives a light laugh and tilts his head slightly. ]

Oh? Really, you should know better than to worry about me, Okumura-san.

[She closes her eyes, shifting her Mimikyu's weight slightly. Hah. Knowing better.]

As if knowing better stops everyone.

[But that's all she's going to say on that matter. Listen, do you think she wants to worry?

Mmmmn. More importantly...]

How long have you been here?

[ It must be terrible to have empathy.

... ah, changing the subject. That's fine. ]

A few weeks now. Long enough to get a feel for this world, as different as it is. [ .... ] As impossible as it is.

[ Especially for me to be here goes unsaid. ]

[Ah, the beauty of things going unsaid: the ability to not have to acknowledge those things.]

It... certainly is quite different. It's taken a lot of getting used to, but I don't think I mind it. What about you?

Hmm, I find it rather agreeable. [ better than bein' fuckin dead lmao ] Surprisingly, I've managed to pick up quite a few of these Pokemon.

[ The Cubone, which has been clinging to Akechi's leg the whole time, peeks around at Haru. ]

This was the one I started with. A Cubone.

Hmm, that's true. There is quite a bit of room for creativity... though having it play nonstop is somewhat grating.

Oh, I agree with you. If we can do something to stop it, then it would be irresponsible to simply not act.

[ That's... a much different perspective than his. And he's not going to say that, now, is he?

Nope. Not even remotely. ]

Ah, I understand what you mean. It's such a constant that anything otherwise feels... off, yes?

I'm sure you will sooner rather than later. Some of them have a proclivity for being... well, less than subtle about their "activities."

[Her eyes light up in delight as she shifts the Mimikyu again and crouches down to get a better look. She stands back up when she's satisfied.]

And this one here is the one I've started with--my Mimikyu, Hydrangea.

[The Mimikyu squeaks shyly and presses closer to Haru before finally offering a wave.]

Ah, Mimikyu--the "Disguise Pokemon," isn't it? I can't say I've seen one up close before.

[ He gives Hydrangea a wave. ]

It seems quite attached to you.

[She nods, smiling faintly.]

Quite adorable, don't you think? Hydrangea's a little timid, but quite the sweetheart... if a bit mischievous when comfortable. And quite fond of attention.

I've found a good number of these creatures are. [ A considering sound. ] They're not unlike Personas, don't you think?

Now that you mention it, I suppose not.

[There's a few differences, obviously, but the two of them have to rely on these Pokemon, much like they had to rely on Personas.]

They're about as varying as Shadows, too, wouldn't you say?

They truly are. Though, I believe they're significantly more numerous than Shadows... though, really, I wonder if we've seen all the Shadows possible?

[ hmmm. Probably not. ]

They are rather more friendly than Shadows, though.

I doubt we have, to tell you the truth... Which just makes me wonder about ones we haven't seen...

[... Anyway--]

Most certainly! And easier to deal with, if you ask me.

For the most part, yes.

[ ... because, actually, there's an Eevee trotting over to look up curiously at Haru. ]

He's quite the handful.

Oh! That's an Eevee, correct?

[She shifts Hydrangea to one arm so she can kneel down and offer her hand to the Eevee for the Normal-type to investigate.]

He is, yes. They're very interesting--so many possibilities for a single species.

[ The Eevee gives Haru's hand a sniff... then gently headbutts her hand while giving a trill. Akechi can't help but let out a quiet laugh. ]

I really did name you well, Joker.

[ Oh.
