Regardless, those thoughts are far from his mind as he sees his friend on the network, instead his mind is filled with exasperation for what he could be up to. He's got a feeling, but also...]
...And what, pray tell, is this "research" of yours entailing that you would require venom or secretions?
no subject
Ha--yyyy, Solus, do you have any new, little beasts? I heard some ghosts have saliva. I would love to look at that under a microscope. [Since he can't just use his eyes. Pity. He suppresses a giggle.]
no subject
Nay, I have none that produce saliva...as far as I am aware.
[hm]
Well, perhaps I can bring them by and allow you to sample them. It is not as though I make a habit of examining their mouths.
[Hythlodaeus, you're so odd, but whatever. He missed this.]
Are you far from Goldenrod?
no subject
Not far at all. You might even say that I am in Goldenrod! ...You must have a new receptionist, she wouldn't let me in, so I had to go find an alternative.
[There's the sound of grade school children in the background. Is Hythlodaeus at a middle school?]
no subject
...Meet me at my apartment.
[He cuts the feed, but he will indeed be at his apartment, fortunately this is his lunch break so be quick!
...Also, please leave those children ALONE.]
no subject
Shall I bring anything?
[He will not ever be quick. He's still on Amaurotine time, baby. But he begins to walk towards the apartment at a leisurely pace. Thank goodness his strides are so long.]
no subject
Wha—oh. Well, it is my lunch break, so if you have not had your own today, perhaps bring some food with you.
[god, Hythlodaeus why are you like this.]
Now then, I am going to hang up, do not call me back.
[He narrows his eyes at him, then cuts the feed. He swears to Zodiark, if he hears his 'gear again...]
no subject
There are onlookers.]
no subject
As he strolls up, wearing his usual garb (having changed out of his lab coat and other incriminating rocket-related clothes), he slows his pace seeing...Hythlodaeus bumming around on the stairs to the building.]
...have you lost your key?
[This. This is the bitter part of that earlier bittersweetness he feels about Hythlodaeus' return, not the whole trauma of losing him and everything. Why did he befriend someone so annoying.]
no subject
Oh no, not at all! I was walking up to the door when I noticed the sun and the breeze were perfect, so I decided to have my lunch.
[An entire brown bag of fruit, like he's a megafauna.]
no subject
[He basically is a megafauna. He eyes the Tropius, then Hythlodaeus as he shifts the bag in his free hand, the other holding onto that cane.]
You realize your beast will not fit inside the building. Recall it, so we can go inside.
no subject
You still need that walking stick... Are you still injured or are you just becoming old now?
[Mortality was so confusing! He opens and holds the outside door for Solus.]
no subject
Never you mind my cane, Hythlodaeus.
[He grumps at him as he makes his way to the elevator.]
But no, it has nothing to do with my age.
no subject
[He ducks into the doorway, being just too tall for all of it. He takes the bag without complaint.]
But you're in pain... Is there truly naught the medicus can do for you?
[ducks to get into the elevator too, standing at an awkward angle.]
no subject
He wouldn't...understand, probably. Maybe he would, maybe it's just too much of a hassle. Yet, at the same time, this is also proving to be quite the hassle. He glances at Hythlodaeus wordlessly as he presses the button for the fourth floor, and quietly he appreciates the fact his body kept to the height of the Garlean he possessed.]
They have done all they can. Mortal bodies are frail—not merely because of age—and all I can do now is let myself heal. And I will heal much more quickly if I did not have to waste my energy answering your inane questions.
no subject
[Who cares if that's now how it works. It should be. He walks down the hall, head nearly touching the ceiling with his gait before finally coming to Emet's door. He unlocks it and holds it open yet again.]
Surely your work is worthy, but not impossible for another.
no subject
Nay, you cannot fill in for me. That is not how these things work. However, if you got yourself your own job...
[That might take some of the load off of him. Once inside, he makes his way to the small dining table, sitting down at it with a sigh of relief from taking the weight off of his poor joints.]
Besides, if I took off work, I could ill afford this dwelling.
[Terrible as it is. Such a downgrade to what he's used to. What Hythlodaeus is used to. But that's just...how the world is!]
no subject
[Yo money fucking sucks ]
I still ill understand how this world works. It is clearly a simulation of some sort, yet we are being made to do all of... this? [He waves his hand around. ] We should bring the matter of currency and housing to the governing body for debate.
no subject
[He retorts pretty bitterly.]
The government body is rather non-existent here, and aught we would debate would go absolutely nowhere. This...simulation, world, whatever it is, seems set to run as it is. My work is all part of my scheme to break it. Maybe then we might find ourselves freed.
[As he talks, he waves his hand around flippantly and with irritation, but once he's said his piece, he lets it settle on the table, before settling a curious glance at Hythlodaeus.]
...Is that what your research is for? Are you...trying to make a profit off of venomous secretions? To what end...
[Wait]
Oh, for the love of—are you attempting to make intoxicants?
no subject
A poor desinger to be sure... And worse, the creator clearly had no oversight! I understand the temptation to keep one's more indulgent creations private, however...
[That this isn't Amaurot is an absolute travesty.]
Is that not what this whole world is about? To find, design, or invent aught that does not exist yet? Perhaps the people here would be calmer and more agreeable if they entered the state of free thought!
[He pulls an apple out of his bag, and takes a bite. He talks while chewing.]
And ordinarily I would not so greedily seek profit either, but I have no intention of starving or sucumbing to the elements! Besiiides, perhaps I can discover a few medicines in the process.
no subject
It isn't that he even disagrees with his friend outright, but they are powerless to change this world as they are at the moment. Their conquest will be a slow burn, and even still Hythlodaeus was never the sort for such matters. Once upon a time, neither was he.]
I think you will find these mortals are more free of thought, than aught else. However, man ever desires his pleasures, and you may find yourself quite the market. Mayhap even those willing to bargain with your requests, but I advise you do not hold your breath.
[He takes a bite out of one of his rolls, shrugging his shoulders as he chews. If Hythlodaeus discovers a few medicines, that could also be rather profitable, though he's not sure if these mortals deserve such kindness. A thought he won't air in the presence of his friend.
He wouldn't understand.]
no subject
[He shrugs. He’s set his sights on his goals and won’t be easily deterred. ]
People adapt slowly to change, but I’ve never wanted for patience. It will all turn out well enough!
[He leans over, stands of his hair falling loose and brushing the table ] What are you eating?
no subject
[He says, only cementing Hythlodaeus' point about being curmudgeonly. As Hythlodaeus leans over to ask about his food, he's about to take a bite. Pausing, he looks between his nosy friend and his food, before closing his mouth with a frown.]
'Tis a sandwich roll, filled with ingredients relatively similar to aught we've enjoyed in Amaurot--I would offer you one, but you do not partake of meat.
no subject
Is it Pokémon meat?
no subject
Looks at the sandwich roll in his hand.
Looks at Hythlodaeus.]
I do not know, nor do I care.
[He promptly takes a bite.]
