[Steven looks away.] I was originally just going to shove past him, but he said something creepy about my friend, so.

[He places his hands on his hips, exuding disappointed english teacher vibes]

Even so! Violence is hardly ever necessary save for stopping violence! You little ones are so fragile! He could have broken his neck. How would you have felt then?

['Thoroughly satisfied,' is the real answer, but he definitely can't say that.]

[His tone of voice is tired, resigned. He doesn't meet the giant man's eyes.]

[His shoulders slump as he gazes down the end of his mask beak at him. ]

It doesn’t do to hurt one another. ... But I’m sorry he hurt you, too.

[He then holds his arms out and kneels in a clear “this is the part where we hug” gesture. ]

[Steven stares at him for a long moment. Does this man really expect him to-- He does.

My God.

But after that moment, he does come forward and awkwardly lets the giant man embrace him. If he gets handsy the way Solus did with Tyler, he thinks, he'll knee him in the gut.]

I suppose it doesn't, [he says muffledly, against the giant's chest.] I was just-- so frustrated. All we want is for him to leave us alone and he won't do that.

[He definitely doesn’t get handsy, not insomuch as his hands are very big and he gives absolutely incredible hugs. ]

That is unusual for him. He must be under undue stress. He usually, well, used to disengage before making lifelong enemies.

[Once Steven realizes that Hythlo isn't going to try anything shady, he lets himself relax a little more into the hug]

We're all under stress. He's the one that's choosing to torment other people just to deal with it.

[ He ends the hug after not too long and stands. He shrugs. ]

[And then he starts walking towards the train station again. You’re still gonna buy him that train pass, aren’t you? ]

[Oh, probably. He said he would. And it wouldn't do to piss off someone who's that close to being a True Fae.

So yeah. Steve will walk with him.]

[ True Fae! I suppose if you broke it down to it’s parts, that’s not untrue.]

Hm... so what was it that he said that provoked you so?

[His pace is steady as he looks down at the smaller man. ]

[God. He hates this. But everything in him is screaming that you can't lie to a Keeper, no matter how gentle and inoffensive they seem.]

My friend... Solus' attentions are a torment to him. He reminds my friend of a person who spent a long time hurting him. And when I tried to get past Solus on the stairs and he blocked my way--and when I asked for him to move and he refused--he said that I shouldn't flee what I feared, that some stayed and faced those fears much to their benefit, like my friend--

[He sighs.]

It felt like a threat against him. It really did. And he-- he didn't benefit from Solus paying attention to him. Not at all. Just being in his presence messed him up, badly.

[Honestly, except for the grief counseling his parents took him to when Tio Carlos died, Steven's mostly stayed away from psychologists. He doesn't want them to realize anything's wrong with him.]
