New Bark

One minute Claudia had been waking up in an unfamiliar room that definitely was not her room--not only did it not look like her room or have its own phone, but it didn't have any hidden candy either because she'd checked--and then next a woman who said she was Claudia's mom but was so not Rioko Kishi that it was time for her Pokemon Journey and handed her a backpack and ushered her out the door! Before she'd even had time to get a good outfit together!

Granted, Claudia had already been dressed when she'd lay down on her own bed back home in hopes of getting in a good half-hour's nap before Kristy and the others showed up for the first pre-high school meeting of the Baby-Sitters Cl...

"Oh my lord," Claudia swears out loud, in the middle of New Bark Town. "I'm going to be late to the BSC meeting. Kristy is gonna kill me."

New Bark/Route 29

After Claudia had finished freaking out about how very thoroughly Kristy Thomas was going to murder her once she finally found her way back to Stoneybrook--because Kristy took things way too seriously sometimes--there really wasn't anything to do but start walking. The fake definitely not her mom had stuck a map in the bag, so she sort of had an idea where the next city was... if not how to get there.

Claudia had no idea where 'Johto' was supposed to be, but that was evidently where she was.

Further examination of the bag showed that it a lot of really basic stuff and some other things that Claudia wasn't really sure why she had, including all these white and red balls. One of them, she notices, is a little heavier than the others. She picks that one up. Presses the little button. There's a flash of light and--

"Smeargle!" proclaims the little creature standing in front of Claudia, that she can only assume is some of paintbrush dog.

"Oh my lord," says Claudia.

[The girl on the screen of the pokegear is wearing an oversized tan sweater with fish on it and white leggings. She's got a black fish-shaped wooden necklace on and fish-bone earrings dangle from her ears.]

Hi. I'm Claudia Kishi. People have told me this is where I should go to advertise any businesses, so that's why I'm here to offer my services as a babysitter! And a pokesitter. I'm not sure how many people here actually are grown ups or have kids, but I know everyone here has a Pokemon. Just send me a message on here to let me know?

I'm still a bit of a vagabond myself, though I've been operating out of Violet City for the time being. I'm just looking to explore the Ruins of Alph and I suspect keeping an eye on these three in particular might be difficult.

Okay! Well, I'm still only in Cherrygrove, so I'll need some help getting to Violet City. Do you know anybody whose mom or dad would give me a ride?

Ah, no...but it's not a problem! I can come to you! There are warps in the Pokemon Centers, you see. But they're rather inefficiently laid out--or at least have some strange limitations on the technology--and you've got to activate them at the destination before you can use them. So I can come to you instantaneously from Violet City with no problems, but you sadly won't be able to come to Violet City from your current location without first visiting Violet City. Inconvenient, but easy enough to work around for the time being.

[Claudia frowns a little, trying to listen to his explanation. He sure talks a lot. Maybe even more than Kristy or Dawn.]

So they're magic teleporter thingies? [she guesses.]

Not magic, scientific teleporter thingies.

[There is a difference.]

I like them better if they're magic. Then my sister won't understand them either.

Magic is just science that has yet to be sufficiently explained.

[Did you want an older male version of your sister, Claudia?]

Yeah and what about ghosts, huh? Are you going to say that they're science too?
