"In general," Catra clarifies, studying first Cassandra, then the...thing. It looks rather more intimidating than the majority of the Pokemon she's seen so far, enough so that she's not entirely certain it is one.

"This is obviously a prize fight. Prove you're as good as one of the reigning champions, get prestige and rewards. But you don't get a society that's built around fighting if there isn't someone to fight."

Cassandra sighs. "I'm not sure. There are two leagues of fights like this, and then an Elite Four, but what the goal is after that I don't know. It doesn't make much sense to me either, honestly, especially since at least one type of Pokemon here is made by humans, and there must be some motive for doing that.

"The closest thing to a regular adversary that I've seen is Team Rocket, but they're not really treated as a group that needs to be opposed - not by anyone who wasn't brought here, anyway. I've read about occasional attacks from powerful monsters, but they're just that - occasional."

She's clearly been giving this a lot of thought.

"Better soldiers," is Catra's immediate response. It's possible there's another reason for someone to create Pokemon, but nothing comes to her in the brief moment she devotes to pondering motives that aren't entirely sinister. "Whoever created them can probably control them whenever they want."

She pauses for a moment, then asks, "What kind of monsters?"

"It doesn't seem to have worked out quite as planned," Cassandra says, "because they don't seem to have been able to properly control them. So they fitted them with power limiters and now they adopt them out." She pauses. "Which also seems suspicious when put like that, although..."

She trusts Blade, and Blade trusts her. But Cassandra's been on the wrong end of brainwashing before, and she could see it happening to other Type: Nulls like Blade. Blade's origins are murky enough to Cassandra that she wonders if it could avoid such a fate, but for now it's impossible to say.

Blade bends down to nuzzle her gently, the metal of its helmet warm in the sunlight; whether that's meant as comfort for her or it, she doesn't know.

"More Pokemon, but immensely powerful ones. From what I've been told, a group of them invaded after a human here was able to trap and disable one. They're all confined on a distant island, although they became more peaceful after their comrade was returned. There are still others that are considered godlike if not gods themselves."
