[He cackles. He can't help cackling. Oh, he is beyond amused. He still raises his own arms in a 'calm down' gesture, but this is while even Snappy is clicking his jaw like he's laughing.]

Yeah, that's my name. And, uh, I could ask you the same thing? I didn't think anyone else was here! Except~ now you are.

And you're even taking after me now. Which is just precious, let me add on there. It's a good way to model your life after legendary crimson leader niichan. Ain't that right, Snappy?

[Snappy clicks his jaws again, seemingly approvingly.]

Just don't do it so much people mistake you for me.

[suddenly, all the questions Karamatsu has about why his brother is in this world seem unimportant. he grimaces, looking like he swallowed a bug]

Why would I model myself after you?

[he turns away... no, spins away, grabbing up the sunglasses he was just admiring]

I am perfect and beautiful just the way I am, after all!

[He reaches over, tugging on a bit of his apron. He smiles.]

I mean. You probably had choices that weren't red, there, bud.

But if you're embarrassed...I get it~ it's hard to nullify the painfulness and move in a new direction towards normality. I'll help. We'll take these non-painful steps in this new world. Together.

[And then he bounces a little on his feet.]

It's bonding! Yaaaaay~!

[no. no bonding. at least not while Karamatsu is shopping.

he's turned away]

It's alright. I have a partner I am exploring this world together with already. I do not need you.

[Okay, the words 'I do not need you' hit Osomatsu in a place he's not entirely fond of tapping into too often, but he's trying not to get pensive right now.]

...Eh?

Oh, you mean your Pokemon? Me too!

[He takes Snappy into his arms proudly.]

Snappy's my best bud~! He's a strong clampy little guy.

[Snappy snaps his jaws, clearly huffy at being ignored until Osomatsu opts to tickle his stomach with one hand. Then he just snaps his little jaws like he's laughing. Osomatsu beams.]

Lemmie see yours!

Hmmm! [Karamatsu hums. he always loves having a reason to show off. sometimes he doesn't even need a reason. he just does it.

he turns, eyeing the Trapinch with wonder. how neat! Pokémon are super fun, aren't they? there are so many...]

I shall show you, if you insist.

[he pulls out his pokeball, giving it a little kiss before throwing it with flourish]

Come out, Mermaid!

[in a flash of light, the Pokémon emerges.

it flops on the floor pathetically. a Feebas]

[Osomatsu watches with wonder as his brother calls out his pokemon. Oooh, what'll it be? Wha--

And then he sees it.

And he is trying so hard not to howl with laughter, and it is incredibly obvious. Snappy is showing no such restraint, clicking his jaws in rapid succession in a fashion that clearly shows that the little trapinch is losing his mind laughing.]

It's....it's fish. It's a fish. Can--Can it even fight?

[Snrrk.]

Do you want me to catch you something else because I totally caaaaan....

[itaimatsu]

[Karamatsu gathers the damp Feebas up into his arms, preening]

She does not need to fight! She is a lady of class.

[Feebas lets out a deep-voiced, almost sad baaaaassss]

Uhhhhuhhuh. Yeah. So I suppose you're just not gonna go for gyms at all, then? You're just not gonna have those badges to show off? The pretty shiny ones? Which I'm gonna get?

I mean, okay, if you wanna be lame like that.

[Beat.]

Also, tall grass is gonna be a nightmare for you. I'm not even sure how you've made it this far.

[itaimatsu]

[Karamatsu's brow twitches. here Osomatsu is, looking down on him. it makes him angry. he returns Feebas to her pokéball, then crosses his arms]

I'm a Pokémon Breeder, brother. My job is more important than collecting shiny badges. I am here to fulfill my destiny, and that means bringing new life into this world!

[zenryokubatankyu]

[He puts Snappy back onto his shoulder, then stares at his brother blankly.]

You sound like one of those overly-hyped expecting moms at a PTA Meeting.

[He lets that sit in for a second before he remarks again.]

Besides - you'll need 'em even then. If you wanna train anything worthwhile, you gotta beat gyms. Otherwise, high-level Pokemon won't think you're up to snuff. They won't listen to you. So if you wanna become successful at anything with Pokemon, you can't just sit on the sidelines coddling a fish. Ya gotta make a team and fight.

[itaimatsu]

[this... sounds weird. or, rather, Osomatsu sounds weird? how does he know so much about Pokémon already? and why is he sounding so reliable?]

...You mean to tell me that you have been training Pokémon yourself? Do not make me laugh.

[Being in a weeklong training course has kinda....pushed him to be the slightest bit reliable when it comes to Pokemon. Osomatsu smirks.]

Oh, the little you know, baby bro.

[He looks at Snappy, taking him off his shoulder, before he mutters to him....]

I'mma put'cha away for a sec. Don't worry, 'kay?

[Snappy nods. Osomatsu recalls him into his ball, before he takes out another ball, tossing it up and down in his hand.]

[He tosses it down.]

C'mon out, Charisma Legend!

[And out of the pokeball pops a small Vulpix, who looks up at Osomatsu questioningly, before grimacing at being on the cold, dirty floor. He picks her up, grinning.]

I've been here for a week and I've nearly got a full team. That's where hard work gets ya! Niichan is living proof - Charry agrees.

[Charry looks around, giving Osomatsu the most deadpan look a vulpix can give a human being.]

[itaimatsu]

[a... second pokémon? how has Osomatsu gotten nearly enough for a whole team]

Brother, you...

[a pause]

...Are you stealing them?

[zenryokubatankyu]

[...He luckily refrains from freezing up.]

What? No! Why would you expect that out of me??? Do I look like a criminal? I've just met some good friends who've helped me catch 'em, and I've listened along the way. It's not about what you know starting out, it's about who you know as you go along!

Besides, two of 'em came fresh from eggs. They're level 1 each. The only strong ones are Snappy and Charry here. I've still gotta train the rest up, but it still matters that I have them. Snappy was my starter, and I got Charry from a friend when he saw I was really trying.

[Which is, technically, the truth, mostly. Both Ranger and Thinkina came from eggs. He's just not noting that these were eggs given to him by criminals, but, y'know.]

...How could you expect the worst from me....jeez, that kinda stings.

[itaimatsu]

[just stares at him without saying anything.

[He looks at him, frowning.

yes but I wouldn't commit actual theft Kara yet jeez]

...What, do you want me to call my friends and have them vouch for me? I mean, they could, but it'd be a waste of time for everyone involved.

[He calls back Charry into her pokeball, putting it up.]

Besides, I'm right to have a starting team. It's smart. And I was practically offering to help you, too, because --guess what? We're alone here. And then I finally see one of my brothers again and he wholesale rejects me for being good, then accuses me of committing crimes. Yeouch.

[Then, a bit quieter.]

I thought I might never see you again.

[itaimatsu]

[Karamatsu is not as easily moved. Osomatsu insulted his intelligence, as usual. so Karamatsu turns from him again, sighing as he puts the glasses back.

he doesn't have money for these]

So, what you are saying is, I am not smart.

[his voice is quiet at first, but it gets a little more confident near the end]

Maybe, to you, this is just a game where you are trying to collect the biggest, and strongest team for yourself. And, if that is how you would like to play, then fine. Be my guest.

[he turns to glare at him]

But do not fault me for doing things my own way! I do not want nor need a large team. My partner is precious. I would much rather dote on her than have my attention spread too thin.

I'm saying that logistically, you're going to need a full team sooner or later. Any other trainer would tell you the same thing.

And it's not a game. We're trapped here. I'm just doing what everyone else has told me to do. Get a team, train the team, get gym badges, don't get left behind. If you don't think I care about my team, you're wrong.

I just want them to grow instead of--instead of smothering them. I'm telling you cold hard facts here. No one will trust you, as a breeder, if you just go 'oh no my one pokemon is this depressed-sounding fish.' Just like how no one would trust me as a trainer if I only had Snappy, but at least Snappy can put up a decent fight.

So, okay. Do it your way. Just don't blame me when everything I've said is true.

[Karamatsu listened... but he didn't listen well. usually, Osomatsu's speeches went in one ear, and out the other. he cared about his brother, for sure, probably more than he should have. but he was not going to stand here and be lectured by him. they were in a new world. now, Karamatsu could be his own boss.

so that was what he was going to do. instead of embrace his brother and work together, he wanted to work alone, see how the road would take him.

he did not answer him, instead, just walking off with the outfits that he was thinking of purchasing]

[Okay, now that downright pissed him off.]

Are you listening to me?! Hey?! Shittymatsu!!! Don't just fucking walk away! I missed you, and thought I'd never see you again, and I get this huffy little 'oh no, I'm Shittymatsu, I'm going to think the worst of you and go on doing my stupid bullshit because I'm STUBBORN and don't realize my fish is DEPRESSED AS HELL.' THAT THING WOULD ACTIVELY JUMP INTO A SUSHI KITCHEN FOR RELEASE. AND I WOULDN'T BLAME IT.

[He was causing a scene in a store and getting stares. And he was tearing up.]

Fine. Go it alone, asshole. I don't need you. I don't need anyone.

[Osomatsu flipped up the hood on his hoodie, freezing in place for another few seconds.]
