A. New Bark Town

[She beats a hasty retreat out of the house. Call her callous, but she knows who her mother is and it sure isn't whoever that was. The music's been pumping since she landed herself here, and it's somewhere between annoyingly catchy and annoyingly distracting. Annoying, either way. She walks off to sit in the grass and think, watching a cat out of the corner of her eye as she inspects her new gear. Hmm. Meowth. Alright, that's... something.

Question is, what kind of something.]

So, Captain, what can you do?

[Leonie very deliberately clicks the device on, trying to keep her eyes trained on the screen.]

How's anyone supposed to make any coin around here? There's gotta be someone with a job opening, but that'd probably cut into time better spent traveling.

[ It doesn't take long to catch that splash of bright orange, and Lysithea is running over to verify- and it is exactly who she thinks it is. ]

Leonie! You're here too?

[ She takes great care to step around the odd kitten before crouching beside her old classmate, holding her milcery to her chest. ]

Did you wake up in that strange place as well?

Oh, hey! Yeah, I just turned up here, same as you. Wherever here is. [She turns her nose up, suspicious. Everything here's too... easy, so far.]

[And what's with the sentient whipped cream? Guess that's another one of these... pokemon? Pokemon, yeah, that's what the device called them.

The Meowth, for his part, rolls onto his back with his claws up and eyes wide and shiny. Don't you just want to give him belly rubs or something? :D?]

I wonder if anyone else will turn up, then. We should keep an eye on that building- I didn't get the chance to look around or check, so I don't recall seeing any other doors when that woman was pushing me outside, but it's possible others may come out sooner or later as well.

[ Admittedly, the peace is a lovely change of pace, but everything is just-- too sudden, too much, and far too suspicious all things considered. Still, the cat... is pretty cute. So yes, Lysithea will hold out her hand for it to smell, and if given approval pets will be given. ]

Probably. She seemed pretty used to having strangers turn up in her home, too. Wonder how many folks she's managed to pull in...

[AHA! Now the Meowth will try to capture Lysithea's hand in his pointy pointy claws. Little did she know the cat was in murder mode.]

[ You know what? She can't even get mad. She should have seen it coming from a mile away, and Captain caught her slipping. She'll let it go... this time. ]

Ow- ugh, no, this is just how they play sometimes. I should have known better.

... How come you get a regular animal and I get a splash of cream? That makes no sense.

[She decides to play with Captain by swinging some tall grass stalks inside its Murder Radius, which Captain greatly appreciates.]

I mean, I like cats well enough. And I know you like sweets. Maybe whoever dragged us here is trying to bribe us into sticking around by giving us... animals we might like.

[She blinks.]

Wait, is yours an animal, too?

I'm not sure it counts, actually, but it's alive.

[ To confirm, the milcery floats from her arms a bit to cheerfully announce it's presence with a chirp and a flip before settling back down in Lysithea's arms... and away from Captain and his sharp claws and rough tongue. It's made of milk, it refuses! ]

It seems a bit cruel to give someone with a sweet-tooth a sweets based lifeform, however.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to end up as someone's dessert, if it were me.

But then again, sinister plots aren't known for being particularly kind, either.

[It's raining deer! Well, not literally, but it'd please Leonie if it did, anyway. But first Lysithea, and now Leonie? Claude's almost starting to get his hopes up that his pink partner in crime might appear at any moment.]

Hey, Leonie! Already worrying about finances, huh? I guess if anyone could stay grounded even after being dumped in some fantastical new world, it'd be you.

I bet you've already got some kind of scheme in the works, Claude. Just wouldn't be like you, otherwise.

[Admiring, as usual.]

Hah! I mean, it depends on what you mean by scheme. I mean, as you must've noticed, being somewhere I'm not leading a country and there's no war on definitely cuts into the need for plotting. There's a lot less to worry about here. Feels like a vacation, doesn't it?

A vacation, huh. Seems fishy to me. Besides... as long as I've known you, you've had this knack for seeing what other people don't, and I don't think you've been slacking off enough for that to change.

Well, I've certainly been gathering all the intel there is to gather. And there's honestly almost enough stuff to learn around here to keep me satisfied. But the truth is, there's a lot that just seems to be out of reach. No one knows how we get here, for instance - not even people who've been here for years. If there's a way to figure out how certain things work here, I haven't been able to find them yet. But I've only been here a couple months.

A couple months? How could that be, when I just saw you yesterday?

That's one of the weird things about this place - it plays with time. It pulls people here somehow, but it doesn't care from when it pulls them. Dimitri, Sylvain, Felix, and I all remember more or less the same things, but all from different points in time. Things that have already happened for me haven't happened for them yet, for example.

Also, apparently when we get pulled here, no time passes at home, so no one misses us while we're gone. Whenever we get sent back, it'll be like we never even left. I don't know how it works, but some people here have returned home and then come back here, and they say that's what it's like.

So you can see it's quite the tangled little mystery here.

[She whistles.] No kidding.

Guess there's nothing for it but to just make the best with what we've got. For now, anyway.

[Felix blinks at the Gear. He can't believe this. Lysithea and Leonie on the same day? This is a good thing, he supposes, but he's starting to dread the possibility of Edelgard showing up... He shakes his head and calls her.]

Leonie. You too, huh? And I see you have a Meowth. Which means you won't need to worry about money. Your cat will learn to generate it on its own.

[Does this make sense? Nope. Not at all. But he's 100% serious. Felix doesn't joke, after all.]

How many more of us are there, anyway? Is this some kind of... class reunion?

[It's going much better than the last one. No doubt about that. But she doesn't want to think about it now.]

Huh. Guess he's good at finding some lying around. Must come from all those people who drop their spare change.

If so, it’s not one any of us signed up for. I’ve been traveling with Claude, Sylvain, and Dimitri. And I’ve spoken to Ashe and Lysithea on this video thing.

Which of our classes reunited with the professor at Garreg Mach for the millennium festival? Mine, or yours?

I suspected you might say that. Lysithea said the same. But the rest of us remember our class being there instead. Even Claude.

[Felix sighs. He’s already getting sick of explaining Dimitri to everyone, but that’s not Leonie’s fault.]

He is. Which part of the war did you come from?

There was this battle at Gronder Field, just like when we were kids. Only... it wasn't us playing around, this time. So, nothing at all like when we were kids.

We saw Dimitri, then, and... [She doesn't know what to say, how to explain it. She groans, wishing she could fidget but trying to meet Felix's gaze instead. Least she could do, right?]

He didn't make it back out.

[Felix just nods along to most of this--he remembers Gronder too, of course. And he expects her to say something about how rabid and full of rage Dimitri was, but...

But she doesn't say that. His eyes widen as he stares at her through the screen.]

What? That...can't be. Was my--

[But there's no point in asking whether Rodrigue was there. Leonie wouldn't have known who he was even if she did see him. How could he and Sylvain have let this happen, in this other version of events? Was it the assassin, or someone else? He shakes his head.]

We fought at Gronder too, but he survived. What happened to him? ...was I there?
