[It's just now hitting him that, because he had to explain what a car was, other people are maybe coming here from other times-slash-universes???]
It's my job to repair them, so. I'm kinda screwed in a few ways if they don't exist here!
no subject
[ nerrrrrrrrrrrd. ]
That is rather unfortunate... But I do understand. I am a mage in my home realm, but I find myself without my magic. But as a scholar, I'm still left with new knowledge to seek at the very least.
no subject
[Sudden realization that he's nerding out! Oh no!]
Not that that, uh, helps now. [.....] Wait, you do magic?
no subject
[ She's smiling, don't worry! The nerding out is appreciated! ]
Yes, and it is quite common where I am from. Healing magic is born from faith in the Goddess, and elemental and other magic follows reason and intellect. I admit, I am not one for healing, however.
no subject
[He says, trying to sound chill about it, because even though Arthur is typically Not That Chill about magic...she was nice about him nerding out over cars, he owes her that.]
Cool! That's, uh, that's too bad you can't do it now. I didn't...I mean, I guess I didn't know this universe had different rules, or whatever.
[That tracks to him, at least? Alternate universe stuff. Very sci-fi.]
no subject
[ Then again, it could just be a lot for him. She hopes it's nothing too agonizing... ]
I had no idea either, but some of my former schoolmates are already in this world. One of them was able to tell me some things, and we're hoping to reunite soon... oh, but not so soon that we cannot have a conversation, of course.
no subject
[Though...well. As much as Arthur's happy for her, to hear that she's got friends around...ouch.]
Oh, that's great! Yeah, uh...I looked around on the network too, but I didn't see anyone I know. [Vivi would have been immediately obvious. Lewis...well, he's quieter, but Arthur knows he's not around either. He may have done a whole lot of searching on that one.]
no subject
[ And she is, truly. She knows how much more frightening it is before you find someone you know- when Claude and Felix had reached out to her over the Gear, it was a flood of relief and comfort she desperately needed. That he wouldn't get such a feeling... ]
Given how many people from my own life are here, I wouldn't be surprised if your friends show up later. I've been told that if we do go back home, we end up at the exact point we remember last, however.
no subject
[Bad enough that one person's missing.
But then, the moment he left...it's a bit of an odd one. Did all of that really happen? He could have accepted the haunted house. They've seen those before. He even could've accepted the weird ghost 18-wheeler, and crashing the van - it's almost a surprise he hasn't crashed it before now.
It's what happened after he woke up from that that gives him pause.]
Hey, did you, uh. Did you have any weird dreams before you woke up here?
no subject
Not that I can remember. The last thing I remember before waking up here was finding my old room at the academy I used to attend.
It's entirely possible that I did dream but simply don't remember out of habit, but...
no subject
[But his nightmares are never really like that. They're mostly just vague blurs of being stuck, and things with teeth. Nightmares where Lewis is mad at him - yeah, yeah, okay. Sometimes those happen too. But not like that.
Arthur's kinda obviously still a little bothered. But he pushes it back pretty quickly.]
Well. At least I got this little guy. Everyone just gets free pets, I guess?
[He pets the little Dedenne on his shoulder, very carefully, with the backs of his metal knuckles. He doesn't always have the greatest sense of how much force he's using, when he holds things with that hand, but touching is pretty much good.]
no subject
For lack of a better word, yes. Mine is... much more fantastical. I've never seen anything like it, honestly.
[ Oh, are they talking about her? Because the milcery is going to force her way out of the pokéball and greet the world happily! ... Sure is a pokémon! ]
Hey, don't be rude!!
no subject
O-oh. Oh, wow, what the - [Peering at her.] - what the fuck is that? Is it a liquid?
[Meanwhile, his Dedenne chirps right back! Hello, totally normal fellow Pokemon!]
no subject
Her body moves as liquid caught frozen while splashing, but she doesn't feel watery to the touch- unless it's an at-will situation. She's capable of performing physical actions as well... it's just. Very strange.
[ Milcery looks up at her trainer for a moment before looking back at Dedenne. Trainers sure are weird!! ]
no subject
Weird. I figured we'd all get different ones, but I didn't think they'd be, uh. That different. Like, mine's kinda just a normal animal? I kinda thought it was just 'cause I have a pet hamster at home.
[Which - he's gonna miss that little guy if he's stuck here for a while. But it's been maybe an hour so it doesn't really hit him hard right now.]
I read they're supposed to protect us, or something. Dunno how that works.
no subject
[ Given the state of everything back home... No, don't think about that. It won't do you any good. ]
Of the ones I've observed so far, this one's been the strangest I've seen- and apparently she's the strangest my friends have seen as well, and they've been here for some time now.
no subject
[Which brings him back, a bit, to his consternation over the map.]
How - how do they not even have a hotel in this town? If people are just...showing up here randomly all the time? [and okay maybe it's not the worst thing in the world to walk a little ways, but he's. He's just really tired, okay, he was expecting to just drive home and finally get some sleep and then that very much Didn't Happen, and now this.]
no subject
[ In fact, she suspects that she'll actually need to go very slowly until the spring comes if she continues on her own. ]
I agree completely! This is ridiculous- especially given the current weather. While I understand the idea of getting new arrivals into setting out on this 'journey', it just seems cruel in the winter! And what if someone doesn't want to?! It's awful! [ Whoops, got a little heated there. Lysithea clears her throat. ] However, I've been told that the local scholar, who lives by the house we came out of, will put people up for the night.
no subject
[Like, as unenthused as Arthur is about getting back on the road, New Bark Town has like...maybe two buildings in it that aren't just someone's house? He can't really imagine staying here long-term. Maybe once he gets to one of the bigger cities, he'll park himself and wait to go home, or for someone else to get here or something, but...
The news of somewhere to spend the night perks him up a bit, at least. A good night's sleep before he has to do shit would be fantastic]
Really? Well, that's...good. Maybe I'll do that.
no subject
Perhaps as we grow accustomed to this place it will make more sense, but it just seems unnecessary right now. And the beginning of anything can impact the rest- a poor start to what's supposed to be a life changing journey doesn't speak well for everything else.
... Oh! It's just occurred to me, I never introduced myself. I'm sorry. I am Lysithea Von Ordelia. As much as I don't like our current situation, it's lovely to meet you.
no subject
[HIS BAD]
I'm Arthur. Uh, Arthur Kingsmen. Nice to meet you too.
no subject
[ And really, they were both in the same boat. This place didn't need mechanics, and it didn't need battlemages. But maybe in at least one case, it was for the best? ]
no subject
[Arthur flips his device off and stands up, stretching with a little grimace. The Dedenne on his shoulder clings with her little claws.]
Ohhhhh, man. I guess I'll check in with...uh, that guy. Whoever. [does he need to know this guy's name] Thanks, that's gonna be a lot better.
