[ She shrugs before running a hand in her hair with a bit of a pout. ]

I was brought here on the... day of a friend's birthday. It was the four of us, an' we were waiting for some other people to show up? They were taking foreeeeever. [ THAT'S PUTTING IT LIGHTLY, AND ALSO MISSING A FEW THINGS, BUT IT'S FINE! ] I miss them. An' like, this place is just so nice, there's no way they wouldn't like it, y'know?

Aaaanyways- [ was that too much to say to a stranger it probably was fuck ], I like your duder's lil costume! It's cute!!

Oh, [he says, sounding sympathetic.] That's awful. I'm so sorry. Well, if you're from another world, sometimes other people from your world do eventually show up. Our llama space god is a capricious one I'm afraid.

And I'm glad you like little Timmy's costume. She's a Mimikyu, which means she's always in one. The default is a Pikachu, but my starter, Charley, is always sewing her new ones.

[He glances at the white food bag, then,] Tiny donut? They're still warm.

That's the cutest thing, omigod. An' her name is Timmy? Adorbs. This is Pumpkin!

[ And her absurdly tiny Meowth meows at her name, wiggling in Roxy's arms for an adjustment because she wants to say hello. Roxy complies just a bit- she doesn't wanna get in this guy's space, after all! Still, the idea of seeing the others is a nice thought! So the universe is a frog and god- that isn't people who played the game- is a llama. Makes sense to her. ]

Oh! Thanks- I, uh, don't wanna stick my hands in your food though--

Short for Timothea, yeah. [It was... a not very nice joke about how his ex-boyfriend had body double named Timothy, but the name stuck even after the break-up.]

Pleased to meet you, Pumpkin. And don't worry, just cup your hands in front of you and I'll shake some out of the bag. You don't have to worry about touching anything.

[ Roxy does as told, careful to not let Pumpkin slip from her shoulder.

This is the sort of thing she likes about this weird, not Earth, not Sburb place. People are kind, just to be kind. There's no rhyme or reason to it. There's fantastical animals, and she doesn't have her short-lived powers anymore but she doesn't need them either.

It's a softer world, and she loves it. ]

I'm Roxy, by the way. Roxy Lalonde! Or RoLal? Depends who you ask.

[The man shakes out a handful of the tiny donuts. They're small and warm and they have cinnamon-sugar clinging to them. They smell absolutely delicious.

If she's watching closely, she'll get to see his eyes momentarily flare wide at the mention of her name.]

Steven, [he says, tipping the bag back up.] Steven Durante. Excuse me, but did you say your name was Roxy Lalonde? You wouldn't happen to know a Dirk Strider, would you?

[It could just be a coincidence... but somehow Steven doesn't think so. Even if she's so much younger than the man he knows.]

Uh- yeah I di- wait. Is he here!? Do you know him? Is he okay?

[ Despite the shock, her joy is apparent- especially seeing as she's forgotten the donuts momentarily. It's only when Pumpkin tries to go for one that she remembers. ]

Hey, no, not for kitty. I know you think all is for kitty, but it's not- [ Stil, she's going to pop one in her mouth or else she'll start bouncing with excitement, and oh those are really good, no wonder Pumpkin looks so betrayed. ] It's still not for kitty.

I do! And, uh, he's mostly okay? He broke his leg some weeks ago, but he's been slowly getting better. He's been staying with Emet-Selch while he convalesces--ah, that's his closest friend here not from your world.

[The man, Steven... he looks a bit nervous. And there's definitely a reason for that.]

Just. Okay. Here's the thing. I told you the llama god was capricious, right? When it brings people into this world, it... doesn't always bring them in at the same time. Or from the same time. So the Dirk Strider I know and that I'm happy to call my friend... he's. Well. Older than you. Physically, I'd say he's in his mid-twenties?

So while I'm sure he's going to be happy to see you, you're going to have to brace yourself for that.

[ That... uh. ... Huh. Weeeeird. Really weird. (Frankly, she wasn't sure if any of them would wind up in a position that allowed aging, actually, so this is especially surprising!) It's hard not to frown at what she's being told.

They grew up together. Their birthdays are right by each other. And now there's this gap that could.... it's. Hard not to think about it. ]

That's fuckin' weird. But okay. Okay! I got isekai'd, an' so did everyone else, and we're all here. And Dirk's fucking older and broke his leg- what the HELL, DiStri?- but I can take it.

[ She gives a bit of a determined grin. ]

No weird capricious llama god is gonna keep me from my best friend for long, no matter what weird shenanigans are happenin!

I've no idea how, honestly, aside from the whole 'snorunt curse' thing that people keep talking about--but I'm not entirely sure I believe in that. I'm sure he was just trying to do some 'sick flips' and slipped on the dismount. That would be like him.

And yes. Yes, it's very weird. And I'm sorry this happened--do you want Dirk's pokegear number so you can text him?

An' he'll tell you it's never happened before, I bet. God damn, Strider...

[ Despite the jab, she's actually speaking with some affection under the 'so completely done' tone. At least he had people to help him with this when he got hurt now... ]

Uh- ... I'll take his number just in case, but part of me thinks it might be better to let him make the first move? I know when I last saw him, but I dunno when he last saw me.

[Steven winces. She's got a point, considering Dirk's everything.]

Yeah, no, that makes sense. Do you want me to tell him you're here?

Yeah, please. And that I'm in Goldenrod- I dunno where he would be? Especially if he's injured.

... Is he happy, here?

I mean, it's Dirk. He's not great at being happy? But I think he's been a fair amount happier lately than he used to be.

Apart from the whole broken leg, of course.

[ Of course. It's like Dirk's afraid to let himself be happy sometimes. At least Pumpkin's here to hug. ]

That sounds like him... But I'm glad to hear it. He deserves better than he gives himself sometimes. Not that he listens if ya tell him.

Well. Yes. But he's got friends here and we're working on helping him be happier.

And he's doing pretty well for himself. I don't know if anyone's talked to you much about gym challenges and the Pokemon League yet, but he managed to beat the champion and the Elite Four—he'll be opening up a gym in Saffron soon.

[ She considers, just for a moment, what to say- does she bring up the whole shitshow that was her life? Did he already know? Would it be worth testing the waters? ... No, she'll reign it in for right now. ]

I plan on hittin some up, but t'be honest I've just been enjoying life. ... [ There's a fond smile, here. ] That does sound like him: gotta be the best, and probably most difficult. Iiiii don't think I've been to Saffron yet? This world really likes their colors don't they.

It's one of the easiest Kanto cities to get to from Johto—they actually have a train from Goldenrod to Saffron. It's a big city and a fairly nice one—but I'm still more partial to Goldenrod.

And yes. Yes they do.

I mean, I can't blame them? Shit's tight. We wouldn't have a lot without 'em- and what we would have would probs be heeeeella boring. It's just a lil silly sounding when you look at a map I guess- or thinkin' bout it all at once.

I've never been on a train before, is it cool?

Oh yeah, trains are great. Much better than airplanes--you get to walk around and there's a dining car where you can get something to eat. It's a nice little interlude while you're traveling one place to another.

Oh shit, that does sound great! Way better than just... [ A wave of her hand, despite how at ease she looks. ] Whatever.

[He chuckles.] Much better than being crammed into a small space the entire multi-hour trip with nothing to do but sit.

Yeah! Exactly that.

[ Not that she would know from experience or anything. Still, now it seems as if she's unsure what to say. The thought of an older Dirk is intimidating, the idea of talking about herself- even if it's possible that Dirk's told this man anything- is... icky. What now? ]

[After a moment, he shakes out some mini-donuts into his own palm and says, conversationally,] Did you know that Meowths eventually learn how to make money? I mean literally make it. It comes out of the metallic thing on their forehead.

Seriously? And that's allowed?

[ She thinks for a moment before shaking her head dramatically. ]

The poor economy.

[ She does not actually understand the economy. ]
