Cherrygrove City
[Shoto looks like he's had better days as he sits on a bench. It's been quite a trip with a fight happy Litten. Waking up in this strange place, unable to use his quirk, and saddled with a cat that breathes fire was at first thought to be a dream.

Yet as days go on, the multi-color haired youth is starting to think it's less and less like a dream. Not that he has much imagination in the first place. This was way more complicated than any dream he's ever had before.

His Litten is more than okay jumping in front of people to startle them. Shoto sighs as he looks over.]

Don't be rude to strangers.

Does anyone know how to make a Litten stop setting its hairballs on fire?

[It was getting to be both annoying and worrisome.]

I've never had a pet before so I'm not sure if this is normal or healthy.
He doesn't like to be brushed or held.
Would catnip help?

[Does this world even have catnip?]

Perhaps it will stop once the hairballs are reduced to ashes?
dangertohands: ([56])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it would, but then he cleans himself and there's more hairball fire.
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
A tricky one, then.

Does this cat... mind that his hairballs are burning? Perhaps it's a natural reaction.
dangertohands: ([47])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
It might not mind since it seems to use it to attack.
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see! Then I believe your problem has a tidy solution, if you do not mind dealing with the ashes. Simply let your feline friend continue his behavior, and soon you may find it warming up to you.
dangertohands: ([29])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[That is pretty good advice.]

Do you know what cats like? As in food or such? I don't know a lot about them.
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've fed some strays near my workshop. They seem fond of fish, when it comes to food, and warm places to nap in the sun, when it comes to places. Or you could simply let him hunt for his dinner, though I doubt the mice would appreciate it.
dangertohands: ([50])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
He mostly tries to eat all of my food, even sweet things. I haven't seen him hunt for anything unless you count a sock on a floor.
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I would not recommend letting him eat socks, if you can help it. But you may have to surrender some of your snacks.
dangertohands: ([74])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think he eats them, just carries them around like a trophy.
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! Then perhaps he will deliver them back to you, if in a slightly chewed upon form.

[ Admittedly, this isn't the first time she'd been surprised by the sudden appearance of a pokémon- the wild challengers, for instance, seemed to delight in it. But usually the trained ones came with- well, a trainer to issue the challenger, so this probably wasn't the case. She's immediately prepared to wave it off with a polite "It's okay", except then she sees who the litten's trainer is. ]

Todoroki! You're here too?
dangertohands: ([37])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yayorozu.

[A classmate? Out here? Shoto stands and comes over to pick up his Litten. It hisses and takes off under the bench. At least he was out of the way...]

I got here a few days ago. They handed me that strange cat in a ball.

[Something about being a trainer.]
peachiikeen: (concern)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Oh no, tiny kitten friend... But Todoroki doesn't seem horribly concerned? So she'll have to follow his lead on this one. ]

Yes, that happened to me as well- with. The woman claiming to be my mother. I received a white fox.

Would it be safe to assume that you can't use your quirk either?
dangertohands: ([83])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Why be concerned just yet? This world was not what he's used to for sure, yet there hasn't been a villain in sight. Just more and more of those strange creatures that only seem to know how to say their own name.]

So we didn't receive the same creature? [That's interesting.]

No. I've been trying to use them, especially when the nights get cold. Nothing happens.
peachiikeen: (explain)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've had the same outcome- nothing. I was hoping that maybe it would be a fluke with one of us, but it seems that we really are rendered quirkless here.

[ It feels a little foolish to have hoped. ]

Thankfully, this world seems to be very peaceful. I've been here for a couple weeks now, and the most I've seen are these creatures' battles, but they're treated more like sparring matches with quirks. No true damage seems to linger.

I believe that we're given what suits us- though the qualifications vary, from my observation.
dangertohands: ([60])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[All of that was very interesting to hear. Shoto had noticed that his weird cat recovered from battles faster than a cat from back home. The Pokemon Center helped reenergize it. Such a strange world.]

I've noticed that as the cat battled more, he seemed to learn new things. I've been using the Pokedex to try and figure them out and a new one was added this morning after he fought a thing called a Metapod.

[This leveling thing was rather useful.]

Qualifications?
peachiikeen: (student)

yaomomo u nerd.

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
I believe that the pokemon we're given at the start of this are meant to reflect something within us, but what that 'reflection' is varies based on what I've seen on the Network. I've seen a girl who claimed to have hydrokinesis wind up with a seahorse, but I've also seen someone who hates ghosts be given what is essentially just that. It's either an accompaniment or a challenge, but I haven't been able to figure out what determines what you're given.

[ She's had a lot of time to browse the Network and talk about things like this, but unfortunately there's no real pattern. ... Maybe she's reading too much into this? ]

... Admittedly, I'm not sure what an ice fox has to do with me or my own abilities.
dangertohands: ([3])

omg i love her

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[This is why Yayorozu was one of the top people in class 1-A. Leave it to her to figure things like this out rather quickly.

What does he know about foxes?]

They're rather intelligent creatures. [And she was a very intelligent person. So it suits her just fine. Yet what would the ice indicate...] I'm not sure about the ice. Foxes in old stories used fire, not ice.
peachiikeen: (pleasant)

she loves you too!

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ She does smile a bit at the implied compliment- it's nice to have validation. ]

Ah- that is true. Apparently this one does have a fire counterpart native to this continent, but I haven't seen it yet.

What do you know about your cat so far?
dangertohands: ([74])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[A fire and ice fox... That sounds like a useful combination of Pokemon to have.

He looks over at the Litten peeking out at the from under the bench.]

He hates being touched unless it's on his terms, and he can use fire. He also likes to fight so I haven't caught anything else since he keeps knocking them out.

[Are cats supposed to be like this?]
peachiikeen: (disgruntled)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ A fire type, then. And rather prickly at that. With her own theory in mind, she can only hope they're both okay. Todoroki had been making a lot of progress, but... well, years of conflict can't go away in a couple of months. Especially internal conflict. ]

I see. I've also not caught many others yet- I want to make sure I'm able to care for my team properly. But if I want to explore further, or try the Gym Challenge while we're here, I'll have to soon.
dangertohands: ([32])

[personal profile] dangertohands 2021-03-07 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[They just need to warm up to each other. At least the Litten listens in battle for the most part.]

That's what I was trying to catch some more for. He just seems happier to knock them out instead of letting me catch them.

[Another newcomer with a cat Pokemon...there seem to be a lot of those, although so far he's never seen anyone else begin with a Purrloin. Granted, there are a lot of cat Pokemon in general...but there are more birds, for instance, and few newcomers seem to start with those. He has no idea whether that means anything or not.

The important thing is, there's a cat.]

no it's not normal for a cat to set its hairballs on fire.
but a litten is a fire pokemon so it's probably normal for that cat specifically
more or less.
that's one of the few I don't have yet.
some cats just don't like those things.
if you try to force him you'll just alienate him.
there are berries that work more or less like catnip.
they won't help with hairballs though.
those come from grooming.
they're fine as long as they're not excessive.
