New Bark Town

Maria's used to being on her own, but usually it's because Mama went away somewhere and not because her mama handed Maria a bag and pushed her out the door. But that's exactly what just happened. It was very strange, because until that moment, Maria had been in the Golden Land with everyone and now she was somewhere else.

It was a very pretty somewhere else, however. And the music playing in the air was nice too, like an arcade game! Maria had been to an arcade once, when Mama was gone. She'd stopped in to look on her way home from the convenience store.

It's at this point, however, that Maria realizes that someone very important is missing. That the familiar, soft weight is nowhere in her bag.

"Sakutaro...?"

Maria looks everywhere, inside her bag and out, but she can't see her best friend anywhere. Not in any of his forms. She dashes back to the door and starts banging on it.

"Mama, Mama! Let me back in! I forgot Sakutaro!"

Route 29

Mama hadn't let her back in. No matter how much she cried and yelled, Mama hadn't let her. Maria wished she could be surprised, but she wasn't, really.

Maybe Sakutaro wasn't in Mama's house. Maria didn't really remember seeing him between waking up and being gently pushed out the door. Maybe he was still in the Golden Land, with Beato. Maria hoped he was.

"What do you think, Pinkle Purr?" she asks the funny kitten by her side. The little old granny lady had given Pinkle Purr to Maria on her way out of town. Maria had promised to bring her back when she was bigger.

Pinkle only mews. Maria sighs and reaches into her bag. "Let's play with this ball I found," she says, throwing it in front of her. There's a flash of light and--

Standing in front of Maria is the cutest little pink hat creature.

Maria gasps. "Uu! What are you?"

Network

[There's a little girl peering into the screen of the pokegear, the faces of a Hatenna and a Skitty flanking her on either side.]

Hello? Hello? Is this television? Are we on television?

[The little girl gasps.]

Uu! We are! We're on television!

New Bark Town

[doodlesuits]

[... Hi, yes, hello, a small child in distress gets Trey's attention immediately.

He makes his way over, with a Scorbunny clinging to his shoulder.]

Hey, what's wrong?

[Maria looks up at the funny bunny man and bursts into tears all over again.] Mama won't let me back into the house and I forgot Sakutaro and I might never see him again.

[doodlesuits]

[... Oh no.]

I'm afraid she's not very keen on letting anyone back in once they're out. I got pushed out the door here, too. [He pauses.] Where'd you see Sakutaro last?

[Maria thinks about this, sniffling.]

... in the Golden Land. That's where I was last before I came here.

[doodlesuits]

Well, if that's the last place you saw him, maybe he's still there. I was somewhere else before coming here, too.

[As much as he wanted to understand Yuu better, this wasn't how he wanted to do that!]

... do you think so?

[It might not be bad if Sakutaro is in the Golden Land. Beato and Virgilia and Ronove and the Stakes and everyone would be able to take care of him.]

Yeah, I think so. And he'll be right there waiting for you when you go back to the Golden Land from... well, wherever this place is.

[He offers a gentle smile, and his Scorbunny nods and fistpumps a little.]

My name's Trey, what's yours?

Maria. Maria Ushiromiya.

[She wipes her eyes.] Uu. I hope you're right, Mr Trey.

[doodlesuits]

We can keep an eye out for Sakutaro here just in case, too.

[... Because yeah, he's not letting a small child go off by herself? Holy crap.]

It's nice to meet you, Miss Maria. [The Scorbunny lets out a "bun!" and nods again.]

[Maria nods.]

He's this tall, except when he's this tall. [She holds her hands at roughly stuffed animal height and then at little boy height.] He wears a red scarf.

[And then, almost as an afterthought,] And he's a lion.

[At least Trey doesn't seem too surprised by this... He nods.]

Alright, that sounds like it'll be easy to spot. A lion with a red scarf... I'll remember that.

[Maria beams at him.] Uu. Sakutaro is the best lion in the world. And the best friend.

[Oh no, she's so cute...]

Yeah? Wanna tell me about him?

[ Hello, tiny child. There's a mismagius who's way too close to the camera responding to you, trilling softly. After a moment she backs away and almost... laughs? But not cruelly so. It looks like she's saying hello. ]

[Maria giggles. It's a ghost, isn't it? She likes ghosts, because they're spooky. Spooky things are fun. She waves at the camera.]

[ The mismagius gives a little bow to the best of her ability before giving a spin. However, it seems that this, and Maria's own voice, has caught someone's attention, because now a voice comes from off screen- ]

Magia? Everything alright?

[ Magia trills some more, rather happily when pale hands appear to give her pets... and then there's a teenage girl who doesn't look too human at all, actually. Maria's presence seems to surprise her. ]

Oh- you were making friends. Maria, right? That's pretty close to her name!

Magia! That's a pretty name! That means magic in another language, right?

[Maria knows a lot about her special interests. She might not know much about other things, but she knows a lot about magic.]

It does, yeah. Several languages use it, actually.

[ Man, she knew people of all ages were plucked and dropped here, but. J e e z e. ]

And I'm Jinx. Did you just get here...?

Uu! I did! I was in the Golden Land, but then I woke up here and Mama pushed me out the door right away.

Ah- yyyyeah, she did that to me too...

[ phrasing, jinx. ]

The Golden Land sounds like it's really nice. [ Actually, she thinks it's kinda sus, but it's a kid. She's not gonna go there. ] Spring sounds like a nice time to start an adventure though, don't you think?

Uu! It is. It's really pretty out here! Sakura and Pinkle Purr like it a lot!

The Golden Land is the nicest place. Everyone is happy there, even when the things that make people happy would contradict each other! But I like here too.

... wait, do you know Mama too?

[Did Maria have a big sister that she never knew about because Mama sent her away?!?]

Is that what you named your pokémon there? They both sound adorable. You know, I have a hatenna too- her name is Rose. I don't have a pink kitten though- clearly I need to fix that.

That sounds wonderful. I'm sorry you had to leave it, but there's all kinds of incredible things here. So maybe you'll find something just as good?

Oh- uh- well, she says that she's everyone's mom, and tends to be the one to send us off...

You should come to the town! Kitty Granny has a lot of them! She named Pinkle Purr but I named Sakura!

[It was what she would have named Sakutaro if he'd been a girl... which almost makes Maria sad again, except she's distracted by something very important.]

Why's he doubling back? Honestly who knows why. It's kind of nostalgic though, and it's probably why he's riding on Spark while he does it. The blue lion is very much enjoying it, even if it took a bit to convince the thing to stop running so darn fast.

Speaking of things going fast though, at least a few curious ghosts are floating ahead, having never actually been around here before.

Specifically, Emporio's Decidueye is watching from a nearby tree. Oooo. Hat...something. Hat something.
