Baseball slides into prompt II
Needless to say, Izuku finds himself chasing after his Eevee and Buneary, both of whom are geared up for a battle since Izuku had already been talking about gyms. Unfortunately for them in their eagerness, they don't realize this isn't actually the right town...Izuku just warped back a little too far on accident.]
Guys, wait! This isn't, we have to go back...haah...
[WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO FAST...he's not slow by any means, but without his Quirk? He's still bound by human limitations and only so much energy, especially feeling as woozy as he does.
As fate would have it, though, it seems like they were destined to come this way. Namely, the fact that Izuku catches the sounds of angry Pokemon in the distance just as his own do. He follows the two normal types in hot pursuit until they lead him to the source, presenting him with none other than Uraraka Ochako, standing in the middle of the path with a Cleffa guarding her from one of the remaining Starly. She might notice Mighty and Mirko come running up at her sides before she hears a familiar voice from behind.]
U- Uraraka-san?
SAFE
And promptly gets battered when the furious avian goes into for another swoop, tackling the poor little marshmallow just as hard as it smacked its mate around earlier. Ochako hurries over to help the little thing, ready to swing her bag like a bat at the stupid bird, but...pauses. Wait a minute--]
Deku--nggh! [The Starly was apparently not done with its assault. After it landed a Tackle on little Cleffa, it looped around in the air and divebombed again, this time twice as fast, and smacked Ochako in the side of the head with a Quick Attack.] WHAT IS WITH THIS STUPID MAGPIE?! GO AWAY, I'M NOT GOING TO STEAL YOUR SMELLY EGGS!!
no subject
Double-kick, Mirko!
[Mirko does not have to be asked twice. She bounds forwards two steps at a time, using her momentum to bounce straight up into the air before delivering a kick to the Starly's middle with both of her paws, a blow that no doubt is not only going to be super-effective, but send it flying into the bushes.
Mighty, meanwhile, stays near Ochako and her Cleffa with his fur bristling around his neck, growling as if to threaten away anything else that tries to get near. Izuku isn't sure if they're going to come back for more, so he makes sure to keep an eye out even as he's turning back to Ochako.]
Are you alright?
no subject
Huh? Mirko?! Where...?!
[Ochako blinks, half expecting to see the Rabbit hero leap to action from above or something, but instead it's a...tiny little bunny? A-A really...r-really cute, s-soft...plushy widdle bunny abububu--...ah. This is definitely some kind of fever dream. It has to be.
The Starly does indeed take the hits, and it hurts the small bird a lot, but...Deku needs to look over his notes about type advantages. Starly may be normal type, yes, but it's also part flying as well...taking only neutral damage from a fighting-type move. That's why, even after getting hit within a few points of passing out, the Starly remains up, and screeches loudly before it readies another attack!! However, Cleffa is still in this fight, too, despite Ochako holding it tight in her arms. Taking in a deep breath, it seems to puff up a little bit before it lets out a...song? Indeed, a light, airy, soothing....gentle little song. It's using Sing, and Starly seems effected, its eyelids getting heavy...drooping...
ZzZZzz....]
no subject
Mirko lands back on the ground, stepping back a bit as the Starly was preparing to attack again...only for it to be quickly laid low by the Cleffa putting it to sleep with some quick thinking. It's a relief to be sure, but Izuku knows better than to trust that they're out of the woods. He's quick to take Ochako by the wrist, trying to urge her to come with him further down the route.]
This way- there's a town not far from here. They probably won't follow us into it if we hurry!
[Wild Pokemon wander in and out of cities all the time, but ones this deep in the routes tend to stay where they are.]
no subject
Animals are fighting, Deku is here suddenly, Mirko is an actual rabbit who is so fucking cute that Ochako might throw up, and her little pink marshmallow just sang a song and the godawful magpie thing fell asleep?? The literal fuck did she eat before her patrol that Ochako is having this sort of bizarre dream? It feels so real, and she's...aware of it all? Aware that it's a dream - because it has to be a dream - and that she's dreaming. So...can't she wake up, then? Wake up and go back to what she knows.
Ochako squeezes her eyes shut, but a second later, Izuku's got hold of her wrist and they're running away.]
Wha--...De-Deku-kun, what's going on, a-are you even...?!
[Even real? She feels all of this though. Every sharp tug, the wind on her face as they rush by, her little Cleffa clinging to her, the pebbly dirt road under her sneakers...all of it. It all feels real but that can't be right, can it?]
Wa...w-wait!!
no subject
O-okay...we should be...far enough away now...haah...
[Don't mind him as he just...squats for a second, all of that running combined with warp sickness does not make for a good combination.]
no subject
She's still winded, but Ochako finds her breath to at least wheeze out--]
Far enough...f-from...what?! [There's a hint of frustrated urgency to her voice now. Ochako is so confused that it's starting to bleed a little bit into her reactions, even towards her best friend.] Deku-kun, please, what's happening?! What is this place, h-how did we get here, and just...what about everyone else? I-I was with Tsu-chan, and Nejire-senpai and now I...I-I don't know where they are, or...o-or anything! And no one's told me anything, and then I got attacked just now and--!
...I just want to know if any of this is real.
no subject
It...it is real. I can promise you it's all real.
[He thought it was a dream too- sometimes still thinks that- but that couldn't be further from the truth.]
The place we're in- the region itself- is called Johto. And...I wish I had an answer for how we got here, or why, but nobody seems to know. I don't think it was caused by a Quirk, specifically, but I still haven't ruled that possibility out.
[He doesn't mention the whole Pokemon-Gods thing right now. That might be too much.]
But...but the others are still back home. From how I understand it, no matter how much time we spend here, things will be the same as we left them back where we were. It won't seem like any time has passed. I mean...I wasn't missing for you back home, right?
no subject
Johto? Are...a-are we still in Japan? [Since, uhh...Johto is most definitely a region in Japan as well. Ochako tilts her head, her short brows knitting together as she frowns. No, that can't be right. If this was Johto, it'd be around or smack dab in the middle of Kansai, where she's originally from - born and raised. Ochako would know this place.] I...see... It's a lot to, um...t-to think about.
But no, you weren't, as far as I remember, Deku-kun. We all went to do our work studies over winter break. I was with Tsu-chan and Nejire-senpai just before I arrived. We were all on patrol with Ryukyu-san. We beat up some villains and...I-I must have gotten attacked because it went black and...and I woke up here. [She takes in a deep, long breath.] Are we really the only two that are here? What about Tsu-chan? A-And everyone else...she was right next to me!
no subject
Izuku realizes a second later that was probably even more confusing, just mentioning Johto with no other signifiers, so he's quick to shake his head no.]
No...it's a different Johto than we're used to. The only thing it really shares is the name.
[He reaches over to run a hand over the top of Mighty's head, watching the Eevee as he bunts his nose into Izuku's palm.]
Well...Kirishima-kun and Kacchan are here, too. They were here before I was, actually...but as far as I know, it's only been us three since I showed up. And, well...now you, too.
[Izuku smiles weakly, because he is happy to see Ochako. He wasn't sure when he'd see her again, if ever. But he knows now isn't really the best time for that kind of reunion.]
And Tsu- ...Asui-san is back home in the same time you left. I know it's hard to believe, but think of it as if the moment you woke up here, everything happening back home got frozen in time. That's how it was explained to me.
no subject
Looking up to her friend again, Ochako listens quietly and nods her head. She thought so - this definitely doesn't feel like the Johto she knows. Her thoughts are broken from that aspects of the conversation for a moment, head lifting as her eyes go wide a bit. Kirishima and Bakugou were here, too?! And--...wait, before Izuku? Jeez, that's...that's got to be difficult. Ochako worries her lower lip between her teeth, taking in a slow breath in and out from her nose. Thinking about it, imagining Bakugou of all people, just...waking up in a weird, new place, with nothing to go off of, no information, no nothing like she just did...
It's be just like...again--
Shaking her head, Ochako pulls her Cleffa closer to her and hugs it tight. Man, she really...doesn't like this. Doesn't like this one little bit. But Deku is trying to be supportive, and she's probably making him worry, so Ochako does what she does best in these situations - compartmentalizes. Shunts all those negative thoughts and feelings to the side and pretends she's some semblance of okay. If Izuku really only just arrived recently, then he's probably going through a lot right now, too. She shouldn't add to any of his stress, and worry him further. She can deal with all this on her own, later. It's fine. It's going to be fine.]
Thank's for telling me, Deku-kun. I'm--...I'll be okay. [Which isn't exactly a lie. She will be, eventually. They're heroes, they can bounce back. They have to.] It's not ideal, um...e-everyone being frozen in time back home, but...s-so long as no one's hurt, I guess it's the best thing now.
[She takes in a deep breath, gathering herself, and smiles, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes very well.]
Okay!! Um, I'm still not really sure what I'm supposed to do now though - that lady just sort of kicked me out, so...what have you been up to here, Deku-kun? How are Kirishima and Bakugou-kun? Oh!! And thank you all for coming to my rescue like that before, ehehe. [Yup, the Pokemon are all getting pets again.]
no subject
For now, there's even more for Izuku to explain as his two soak up as much attention from Ochako as they possibly can.]
O-oh, it's no problem! It's...the birds that attacked you, that's something that happens when you go out on the routes sometimes. These creatures- Pokemon, collectively as a species- like to fight against each other. It's what all of them do, if you'd believe it.
[Even the cute ones...as she saw with Mirko curb-stomping one of the Starly from earlier, as well as Cleffa doing similar earlier on.]
Everyone who shows up here has one with them to start with. Mighty is an Eevee- [Said as Mighty gives a yip in greeting.] =and he was the only one I had with me when I was told to leave, too. I met up with Kacchan and Kirishima-kun shortly after that, and I've had a few more join me since then.
Basically, we've been helping our Pokemon get stronger by training them. There are gyms that you can take on...kindof like challenges along the way to test how strong you've gotten? And if you can win, you get a badge. That's what Kacchan and Kirishima-kun were working on before I got here. I'm trying to catch up with them, mostly.
no subject
[I mean, she did just see it happen - the cute bunny, which she's assuming is Mirko (which makes Ochako's lips turn up at the corners. Of course he would use Heroes...), did pummel one of the birds, before her own Pokemon put it to sleep somehow. She's still not quite sure how that even really worked - maybe it was like these creatures all have quirks...sort of like how Principal Nezu did? Again, something that's going to plague her forever, but...she'll have to deal. There's so much to learn already, that taking in just this much is already a lot.]
Ehehe...Mighty? Like All Might? [Ochako finally starts to giggle a little bit, softly. My god, Deku, you really are a fanboy, aren't you? Some things never change, even outside of their own world, it seems. But, it does make Ochako pause as she listens a bit more carelessly. His Pokemon is called and Eevee, but he named it Mighty...so she could, theoretically, call her Cleffa something, too. Hm...] They told me mine was called a Cleffa, but I haven't thought of a name for it, yet...
Aah...wait, wait. [Let her try to catch up here, it's like learning a whole new language in all of five minutes. Ochako shakes her head, sort of...wishing she had a notebook or something, like Deku does, to write all this shit down.] The animals here are called Pokemon. People all get one when they arrive. Mine is Cleffa, but yours is Eevee, and you can give them names, sort of like a pet?
They like to fight, and wild ones are kind of jerks and will try to beat you up, so you fight them with your tame one to make it stronger. Um...you can get other ones? Do the gyms give those away, too? Or just the badges?
no subject
[But all of the complexities that come with battling and moves and whatnot is a whole other topic in and of itself. When Ochako turns to pointing out his naming bias, though...Izuku immediately turns red and puts a hand over his face, gesturing with the other as if to try to explain himself before he can even think of what to say.]
Y-yes, but it's a fitting name, I promise!
[IT'S...NOT ENTIRELY since Mighty is hyperactive and childish but maybe he will grow to fill his All Might shoes one of these days...]
But, um....well, they're like pets, but it's closer to call them companions or partners. They're a lot more intelligent than a normal animal...like, if you speak to them or tell them something, they can understand even if they can't talk back to you. The gyms don't give them away, you have to befriend or catch them yourself.
[A pause.]
You could have caught one of those Starly back there if you really wanted to, but...I don't blame you for not wanting to.
no subject
[She sort of assumed as much, since when Izuku mentioned training and fighting, Ochako sort of went that route mentally. Plus, there had to have been something with that lullaby thing her Cleffa did - a sound based quirk, maybe? Sort of like Mic-sensei's Voice quirk? It's the closest thing Ochako can think of, and she's trying hard to think of what quirks Mighty and Mirko have... Maybe like their namesakes? Strength and speed for Mighty, and some intense hopping and leg strength for Mirko? Along with enhanced hearing, like a rabbit?
...Though that may just be her species, really. Ah, it's so confusing!!]
I think it's cute. [Ochako giggles, petting Mighty on the head and scratching behind his ears before looking to her Cleffa and tilting her head to one side.] Mmh...I want to name you, too, but I don't know what. You're so pink and cute, and sweet...maybe something like Strawberry? Or Bubblegum?
[Neither of the two names seems to spark joy in little Cleffa, as it mirrors its trainer and simply turns its head to one side with a curious meep, hopping up and down and holding out its arms to be picked up again, which Ochako does. Welp, got to really think hard about a name for this little thing, but when she's not so bombarded with info. All this will take at least a few days to really soak in.]
Star...ly? Oh, you mean those birds? Ehh...I'd rather not separate them, if they really were just nesting close by. That seems a little cruel, even if they were really rude to attack. I bet they were just following their instinct... But, um. You said catch them - is that what these things are for? [Ochako sets down her pack she got from 'mom' and pulls out a small handful of Pokeballs.] I had no idea what they were until i pressed a button on one and Cleffa disappeared into it like....shooom! And--...pzzap!
[Cleffa HUFFS at the reminder, looking small but angy. It didn't like that!! Pokeballs are lame!!! Being carried is much more fun!]
no subject
Izuku nods, lifting up the edge of his t-shirt so Ochako can see his belt. He has a line of Pokeballs attached to it via clips- six of them total, with the first two slightly ajar to indicate that their owners aren't currently inside.]
It's a little confusing...I still don't fully understand how the technology works, but you use Pokeballs to catch them. It's a lot easier when they've been weakened first, but you don't always have to catch them either. A lot of mine decided to join me on their own.
[Accidentally or otherwise.]
You can actually catch a lot of Pokemon, but only carry six of them with you at a time. I have six right now, including Mighty and Mirko.
[Ryuko and Manual don't exist yet, but...soon.]
no subject
And speaking of companions!! Ochako leans forward a little to inspect her friend's stores of them, then straightens up. How interesting. It's like having a bunch of cute friends at the ready, any time!! Travel sized and conveniently packaged! She begins to giggle to herself a little, in between Izuku's explanation.]
They look like gacha capsules!! Ehehe, it's really cute! Maybe you can show me how to catch one, Deku-kun? I'm still not exactly sure how much I like making animals fight, but...if there's really no problem, a-and if Cleffa-chan likes to, then I guess it's okay. Though I really would prefer to just makes friends with them...i-if that's possible.
[It sounds like it is? I mean, Deku just said some joined on their own without a fight, but Deku always did have that sweet, calming, gentle aura about him. He sort of just emanates security and protection - he really does make such a great hero in that way. Of course an intelligent creature would be able to key in to that, too.]
Eeh?! You have more with you?! Can I see them? Please?? Mighty and Mirko are so cute, and Cleffa, too, so I want to see what others you have!! [She should probably be scanning each one of them with her Pokedex, but...eh. Whatever. It's fine.]
no subject
[Since you like, have to throw the ball AT a living, breathing creature. Instinct makes you sortof not want to do that.
When she asks to see the rest of his team, though...Izuku looks briefly sheepish as he glances down at his very cute Eevee and Buneary, both of whom are not very indicative of the other Pokemon he keeps.]
O-oh sure, just um...my team is kindof...a little lopsided? It's uh...you'll see what I mean.
[He pulls the other four balls off his belt, two in each hand, before he carefully tosses them up into the air nearby with enough space for everyone to come out. The balls pop open with their respective flashes of light to reveal quite the...different array of Pokemon.
First to appear is Thirteen, a Duskull who immediately covers his one eye with his sleeve-hands because THE SUN IS TOO BRIGHT...then immediately hovers over to bury himself against the side of Izuku's neck. Hawks the Dartrix and Mystery the Type:Null appear side by side, with the grass owl hooting and brushing his bangs from his eyes while Mystery stands there looking like a very startled hedge because Izuku doesn't usually let it out like this oh god are we battling OH GOD IT ISNT READY-
And last but not least, Kamui. The massive...MASSIVE shiny Tangrowth who bursts from her ball with a loud- if friendly- grumble and a shower of sparkles. It's pretty dramatic, just as much as the way she immediately lumbers over to wrap her arms around Izuku.]
Ka-h-Kamui- let me go-
no subject
Ehehe, wouldn't even know what'd make a balanced team, to be perfectly hone--EEEH?!
[Ochako sucks in a breath the moment Duskull appears, and the pink in her cheeks drains away with the color in her face. Hell, she may resemble a ghost herself from how pale she gets within mere seconds, backpedaling so hard and so fast that her back hits the trunk of a tree nearly ten or so feet away. Just gonna...practice social distancing. No biggie.
One by one Deku's pokemon appear, but poor Ochako's focus is mostly on the Duskull because sweet Jesus CHRIST, what in the world is that?! I-It's like an inky blob of creepy void and...a-and the freaking bone mask and the one glowing red eye. How...why--?? Izuku, why do you have a hellspawn in your party, what curse did you invoke to release such a thing upon yourself, does Ochako need to call a priest? Does she need to yeet you into a bath of holy water? She will do it, my guy, my dude, my buddy chum pal-o.
From...a distance...
Cleffa, however, seems wholly unphased by any one of the many Pokemon that appear, and bounces over to greet each of them with a happy chirp and wave of her little arms. Hello there, new friends!!]
Eh...eheh...hah. I-I think I can see now, wh-wh-what you meant, De...D-Deku-kun. Ah. They're all, um. I--....I-I mean. [They're kinda cute? But she is undeniably terrified of the Pokemon that is named after her favorite Pro Hero, weep.]
no subject
It doesn't take Izuku long to realize what it is that Ochak is scared of given the fact her eyes haven't once left Thirteen, who is only just now peering out from Izuku's hair looking just as terrified as Ochako is. Hawks at least bothers to give Cleffa a proper greeting, patting the top of her head with one of his wings.]
O-oh, um...I know he looks kindof scary, but Thirteen is harmless, I promise! He's just a baby still, really...
[A baby who looks like they're about a half-step from bursting into tears, why is everyone looking at them like they did something wrong oh no]
no subject
And yet, her fear has her keeping an eye mostly on the ghost, still pale and a little clammy as she tries to approach and steady her racing heart. It's silly, Ochako knows how silly she's being, but she just can't help it!! It's not an easy fear to get over, especially when there's a ghost right there in front of her! It's like facing one's fears totally unprepared.
Cleffa coos at the pat to its head, hugging onto Hawk's feathers for a moment before it senses the distress in its trainer and hurriedly bounces over back to Ochako, meeping loudly and pressing itself affectionately against her legs and holding on tight. It's okay, there's nothing scary here!! She will protect you!]
Th...Thirteen? [Ochako blinks, kneeling down to pick up Cleffa and give her a tight hug, letting the Pokemon snuggle against her reassuringly. Gosh but these little guys are the best at being a form of comfort.] Like...l-like the Pro Hero?
[There's a tiny, barely there smile on her face. Gosh, Izuku, your nerdiness is showing again. But also--] Ehehe...I-I guess that does...s-sort of fit them. Kind of. Hrrm. Sorry Deku-kun, I...I-I'm really no good with ghosts. I didn't mean to bother you or your friends.
no subject
[He's realizing that both Ochako and Thirteen are terrified of each other to the point where keeping him out is going to do more harm than good; so, with that in mind, he'll take his pokeball in hand and carefully return the little ghost to it before reaffixing the ball to his belt for safekeeping.]
Y-yeah, just like the Pro Hero. Thirteen is nocturnal, so I usually keep him inside during the day anyway so he can rest. If you see any ruins marked on your map, or anything like a tower though you might want to stay away from them...usually places like that have a lot more ghost Pokemon than anything else.
[Meaning Ochako would be in for a Bad Time.]
But everything out on the routes is usually what you'd expect. Things like birds, bugs, and mammals.
no subject
[Ochako can't help it - she genuinely feels bad for her outburst, and most certainly shamed of herself. These creatures aren't really ghosts or monsters, they're just...kind of weird, bizarre animals. Mighty looks sort of like a bunny and a fox, and Mirko is absolutely a bunny. Kamui is like a big ol' heap of noodles, and clearly Hawks is an owl. More or less, they're just...animals. Cleffa is weird in that Ochako can't guess what she may be - maybe some kind of cat - but she likes them all.
It's such a stupid phobia to have and she knows it, her face slowly regaining color as her cheeks, nose, and the tips of her ears start to get pink.]
O-Oh...okay. I will. [Probably. There's always the chance she'll forget that word of advice, but Ochako does try to make a mental note. She's also stubborn enough to go there anyway, to try and challenge herself and her stupid phobia too, so...] Right...maybe not a bug, I-I don't think I can stomach them very well after what happened to Mic-sensei. That was a bit too much...
Um, b-but I never asked, Deku-kun, what are you doing here? And what about the others? You said Kirishima-kun and Bakugou-kun are here? Are there in the next town over, too?
no subject
[Which is way different than seeing one in person!
But back to the matter at hand. Ochako probably is pretty confused about where everyone is, and what they're doing...]
We're traveling right now. Sometimes we go back through old routes to train or if there was something we needed that we forgot, so I was out here for training. Kacchan and Kirishima-kun are back in Goldenrod right now.
[Izuku rubs his cheek with a finger.]
It's a little hard to explain unless you've seen it for yourself, but the Pokemon Centers have these like...warp areas? If you've visited them in person, you can use them to go back to warps connecting cities you've been to before. It makes traveling back easier, but only if you've traveled there yourself first.
