[Mari adjusts her glasses on her face with one hand, frowning pensively. She does not take her eyes off Rei; all perky-happy energy appears to have evaporated, replaced by a seriousness beyond her apparent years.]

Since I arrived here.

[Small changes. Nothing anyone would see. Nothing anyone would notice. But she sees, and she notices. No medicine she needs to take in the morning. No black spot she cannot see past. Blood in her veins.

[Well, that's just impossible.

But just because it's impossible doesn't mean it's untrue. She's pretty sure this one here doesn't know how to lie. Or at least, she isn't motivated to do so.

[Mari also blinks, then looks pensive--albeit in an intrigued kind of way.]

[Thanks for clearing that up.Two steps forward, one step back... but maybe this is more like one step forward, two steps back. There's no way this is Instrumentality... what the hell is going on?!]

[She knows quite a few things, after all. But whether those are relevant things, that is another question, one that she cannot answer.]

[Ha ha. They don't... have a known emergency, anyway? The crisis she remembers doesn't line up with this, and it wasn't something she could have (or would have) done anything to stop herself.

It may have been stopped, but her level of certainty there isn't watertight... and anyway it wouldn't have caused this. So that doesn't really help!

She takes a deep breath, composing herself in advance. It's not like she can scare Rei off, but that's not the only reason she's like this, you know?]

How long has it been 'since you arrived here?' It must have been a while, yeah? What happened? Tell me everything.

It has been a few weeks since I arrived here. Most of that time has been spent traveling between the cities and towns with my team of pokemon. There are no major threats, aside from Team Rocket, a criminal enterprise who attempt to steal pokemon from unwary travelers. Most people seek employment by training and collecting more of these pokemon, and by challenging Gym Leaders to demonstrate their skill and ability.

[Rei has, as usual, done the reading prior to the mission.]

[Well... some of that was useful, anyway!

Okay, most of it wasn't. Most of it is just a rephrasing of what the locals told her when she was back in 'Mom's' little town of New Bark. Rei did technically answer her question, though, so in retrospect, Mari admits she could have been a little clearer.]

[She acts like she just thought of this, but she didn't. It was the first question on her mind when Rei confirmed she wasn't dead.]

[At least, she assumes that 'puppy boy' means Ikari.]

[Her expression grows darkly serious, her mouth a tight, pensive line. Her gaze moves off Rei as she thinks about that, and all of the layered implications.]

[Never has anyone been so exasperated about another person's predictable reliability. She sighs so heavily it could almost seem exaggerated. ]
