That's a face he hadn't thought he'd see again.
Emet-Selch, of all people to address him, takes G'raha briefly by surprise before he huffs slightly, the words making his sensibilities prickle.]
You say that as if I haven't already planned on continuing to do so. [He isn't lingering near the Ruins of Alph because he wants every Unown!] As invaluable as a direct source is, it would be remiss of me not to cross-reference what I find with what this world has already written, would it not?

[Can he sound more condescending? He smirks.]
You will find ample information about this world's legends and history in Ecruteak, it is a rather storied city which embraces its longstanding traditions with no small measure of pride. Not to say there is naught to be found in the other cities, but like as not, what you seek will be there.

Well, then I shall have to make haste to get there.
[Because Emet-Selch, despite all he'd done, never did lie to the Scions, did he? He was just truthful and insufferable about it.]
But I must say, it is...strange, to speak to you once again. And in truth, I say "strange", but that can't properly sum up my feelings on the matter.
[He's not adverse to it, shit's just weird.]

Is that some measure of guilt pricking at your conscience? Looking upon the man in which you went under no small amount of labor to orchestrate his execution?
[He knows it isn't guilt, and he does believe that his feelings are complex at the very least. Exarch was ever a terrible liar, after all.]
Do not burden yourself so, least of all for my sake. You won. Should you not relish in the chance to proclaim such accomplishments to my face? By all means, it is your right as the victor and teller of the tale.

[Strangely enough there's no malice or anger in the statement? Like...it sure was a thing that happened, and by the Twelve had it hurt like a motherfucker, but G'raha's...he's not mad. He gets it, in his own way. In a small way.]
But perhaps there is some guilt there, yes. Something that wishes it could have been different - that it could all have been different.

But I am afraid the victory belongs to the Warrior, and not to me. And I think even they would agree that to cast you only as a villain would do you a great disservice.

But then he had to go and ruin it all with...what is that? An attempt at kindness? Pity? Somehow that's far worse than the gloating he has every right to.
He does nothing to stop his reflexive look of disgust.]
Oh, what is this? I do not need your pity, if you are under the misapprehension I require any.
[He shakes his head, giving G'raha a flat look.]
Where was this friendliness when you were less man than crystal? Certainly would have made our conversations far more enjoyable, no doubt. Now, 'tis little more than salt in the wound.
[He says that, but some part of him is touched by the sentiment. If we're being overly generous, that is. But then again, he wouldn't be reacting so much if it meant nothing to him, now would he?]
no subject
[He stops himself, lets out a breath. Would it be worth it to argue semantics at this point? G'raha's not sure he has the patience to do so.]
I had a duty, as the Exarch. As did you, and neither of us were inclined to concede to the other, in our own ways. That, at least, I can recognize. And...you needn't take any potentially proffered hands. I'm under no illusion that you will. [He's not even sure it's his place to ever offer a hand to Emet-Selch. Maybe the Warrior's.] Perhaps it is just...I would like you to know that, on some level, I do understand.
[Is it on the same level as the Unsundered mind can comprehend? No, of course not. But the iceberg of it is visible above the surface, and he can perceive that it goes down, down, down into the depths rather than only focusing on what he can see.]
