[Trained as his gaze is on her, Aymeric picks up on the almost playful way she reacts. It makes him uneasy, especially as she speaks. She's toying with him. The only question now is why. There are no features that might define her as a native of Eorzea, not that they would matter anyway. He'd caught a glimpse of his own ears, after all, vaguely pointed but ultimately rounded down. Her unfamiliar traits certainly didn't discount her as an assassin from his home.

Still, without an immediate reason to suspect her, Aymeric settles with a continued, careful approach.]

Route 29. [And, as if to play at her own game -] En-route to Cherrygrove City. It stands to reason if you are reading the signs, rather than bearing the intrinsic knowledge, that you are just as out of place here as I.

Why, I hardly need intrinsic knowledge to avoid becoming lost. If that were the case, no one would ever travel.

[She leans partly against a nearby tree, still a safe distance from him, seeing as he seems on a hair trigger. The jostling disturbs part of her ruff, which extends upward in a bump... and it isn't part of the fur at all, but a little, round blackbird. It stares at Aymeric with even more open curiosity than its apparent trainer does. If the stranger notices, she doesn't acknowledge it.]

What parts are you from, then, fellow explorer?

[In his rightful element, Aymeric was hardly a suspicious man. It was probably why he'd been knifed in his gut so easily, now that he thinks about it. But this is far from his rightful element, and this person is far from any normal passerby. He knows not what to make of her.]

I hail from Ishgard, a city in the Coerthan Highlands. Located on the continent of Eorzea.

[In his defense, Aymeric doesn't know that their first instinct is to toy with others so that they feel in control, even though they have no more say in all of this than he does.]

Never heard of it. I'm from Renova -- the capital. Little thing nestled west of the mountains. Great wine country.

[For a moment, they think, and eventually decide that gathering information has overtaken causing mischief as their priority.]

Do you happen to recall what you were doing before you landed here?

I am afraid I am just as unfamiliar. Though... [He trails off, thoughtful.] Wine country? [If nothing else, Aymeric perks up, just a little. Now they're speaking his language.

In any case, he's quick to nod his assent to the second question.]

I was en route to the frontlines after returning my comrades to their base of operations. I must have closed my eyes to rest for a brief moment and nodded off. Then I was here.
