You as well, then.

[Unconsciously, his hand drifts up to where the very tip of his ear should be. Instead, it alights on empty air, and he has to remind himself to draw his hand inward. There's a faint, vaguely noteworthy point to his ears, but otherwise they are painfully short.

His hearing, of course, has suffered as well. Though perhaps that's just the incessant music in the background.]

I hail from a star called Hydaelyn. And yourself?

[The other man notes this gesture, feeling a twinge of sympathy. His own ears are not what they once were.]

Toril, as it happens. I have never heard of Hydaelyn—still, there is much of the planar systems I know but little about. What sort of folk were you before this translation to human?—I myself was a dark elf, although one who only wishes to live a peaceful and honest life upon the surface.

[This is, of course, rotheshit.]

ourstosee: (All these questions in your gut)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-24 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's another lengthy period of silence. Aymeric's brows draw together, knit in thought rather than suspicion. Toril, of course, is an unfamiliar name. But the distinction he draws, as well as the name he uses, catch his attention all the same. Until very recently, "elf" had been an unfamiliar term. Elezen was the proper nomenclature when referring to his kind, further distinguished between Wildwood and Duskwight.

And yet, on a Shard of his own home, the term "elf" had taken root instead. And though he has little cause to believe it related, he tucks this away all the same. If nothing else, once everything was said and done, he might have information to present to the Scions.

But that would be a matter for later. For now - ]

Elezen. Not too dissimilar from you, it would seem.

Elezen. [He savors the unfamiliar word on his tongue.] I believe the ancestors of my kind were called eladrin, so yes, the name is similar. A gracile folk with pointed ears and natural spans of several centuries?

Halone, I could only imagine the hells Eorzea would be in if my kind managed to live for centuries. [Is his laugh just a little bitter? Maybe. Perhaps if they had been graced with extended life, they might have been just an onze more capable of understanding the plight of the Dragonkin.]

Our lifespans are slightly extended compared to some of those we share our star with, yet simultaneously dwarfed by others. Maturation occurs at a slightly slower rate as well.

My people mature swiftest when we are full young. At adolescence, our aging slows to the leisurely pace it maintains until our deaths.

That said—just because we have a long natural span does not mean we often live it out fully. With dark elves such as I, it is a fortunate drow who makes it to the end of his second century.
ourstosee: (Are we flashes in a rut)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
That is a tale very familiar to all who call Eorzea home. War cares little for natural lifespans.

T'would seem that, regardless of our origins, we have much in common Ser...

Drizzt Do'Urden, [Jarlaxle lies.]
ourstosee: (Going in and out of luck? Maybe)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-25 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
A pleasure to meet you then, Drizzt Do'Urden.

[Aymeric hesitates here. It isn't that he doesn't want to introduce himself, simply doesn't know how. It's clear that he's far from home, just as his companion is. And while he hardly expects this Drizzt fellow to have it out for him, he still cannot help but wonder if offering his full name is the best idea.

Never mind his motley collection of titles.]

Aymeric. Of Ishgard.
nevercaught: (beaming)

[personal profile] nevercaught 2022-02-25 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well met, Aymeric of Ishgard! Should I conclude that the blue bird atop your head came from one of the magic spheres we were gifted?
ourstosee: (You had eyes but sewed them shut)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-25 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
That would be correct. I wish I could tell you more of it, but beyond where it came from and its preference for roosting on my head, that is all I know.
nevercaught: (smug)

[personal profile] nevercaught 2022-02-25 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed, I know very little of my own imp as of yet. He is a friendly fellow, however. I think I shall like being his master.
ourstosee: (Spinning on a ball of rust? Maybe)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-25 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
If nothing else, you know you have a stalwart ally already. There is little else that could make a daunting journey more easily navigable.

I am, of course, inclined to agree.
nevercaught: (curious)

[personal profile] nevercaught 2022-02-25 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
It is somewhat imposing, yes. [Jarlaxle thinks longingly of his statuette of the 'night mare' and its easy transformation into a magical mount.]

Do you plan to catch other creatures as this 'guidebook' claims we are meant to?
ourstosee: (But the light is ours to see)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-25 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Truthfully, I have yet to be able to check into any of the materials I have been provided. It does sound strange, however, the idea of ripping these creatures from their natural environs.
nevercaught: (obnoxious)

[personal profile] nevercaught 2022-02-25 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. Perhaps. [But on the other hand, he really wants to beat these gyms and gain their prizes and for that he needs more pokemon.]
