Human and without any magic. The first would have sufficed as punishment enough.

[ It is tremendously irritating that his new companion seems to have more in the way of mind-altering powers than he does, though they don't seem inclined to use them right now. ]

You look happy enough. [ Jarlaxle is always obnoxiously cheerful but it grates especially here. ]

Only in that I see no reason to be overly sad. I still have my life, do I not? As do you.

And more than that, I have you as a companion in this plane—and the imp. I wonder if I might train him to help me in my endeavors. He seems quite intelligent.

[ Unflappable as always...but that's always been the way Jarlaxle approaches problems, so everything is as it should be, he supposes. Even like this.

Though he supposes it could be much worse. Despite the changes, it's not an overly hostile plane. ]

And what endeavors would these be? Capturing more of these creatures, as we were asked to do?

Why yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. I have been reading this book that I found in the bag. It says that we might train the creatures to fight each other, to win monetary prizes and great acclaim. And indeed, to win precious and rare trinkets as well. This 'megastone' that one might receive after challenging and winning against all the 'Gyms' in a region... I think my new little friend might enjoy the presence of such a stone, wouldn't you, Euol?

[Yes, he has already named the imp after the drow word for 'gem.']

It's as if this plane was tailored to your interests. You have spent mere minutes in this creature's presence and already, you have named it. Of course.

[ Kimmuriel's own partner, a squidlike creature much cuter than an illithid, seems content without a name as long as they get to be Held. Kimmuriel, despite his protests to this entire thing, is still holding them... ]

If it digs up some kind of Creshinibon I will throw its capsule into a river.

Yes, I'm sure you will.

And yes, I did. It seemed like a fitting name. I saw some green spiders frolicking in the tall grass when you showed me your location through the communications device. I intend to catch one of those too.

[His grin stretches across his entire face.]

And here I thought you had left behind your terrible jokes with that dwarven friend of yours. I should know better than to hope.

Perhaps Athrogate shall show up in time. I am sure that he would find this an enjoyable plane as well!

[He can almost hear his dwarven friend's laughter at his masterful pun.]

If I can find any that are well suited for me.

Training these creatures to battle by command should prove an interesting enough diversion. [ Battling by proxies is nothing new, but doing it without mental domination is another thing entirely.

He doesn't have the love of trinkets that Jarlaxle does, but if he needs a partner to fight against or beside, Kimmuriel is content to step into that role. ]

I am sure there must be. This 'pokedex' I have found within my device seems to indicate that there are any number of creatures like these. At least three hundred, it seems, for my own is labeled as number three-hundred-and-two.

[ He fiddles with his own device to figure out the pokedex. ]

This one [ he gestures at his Inkay, still content to sit in the crook of his arm, ] is numbered six hundred and eighty six. It seems this plane is full of them, which I am sure delights you no end.

[nevercaught]

It does! If all the magic in this plane is within these fine creatures, it only follows that I simply must catch them all!

Or, well. A large number at least.

And where will you keep them all once you have them? [ Despite himself, he cracks a smile. ] Not even you have large enough pockets.

[ A bag of holding, perhaps, but he has a suspicion that if travel to this plane can take away innate powers, then magic items won't be capable of doing much. ]

I have read about this too in my guidebook! There is a mysterious artefact known as a 'computer' that shall hold them for me. One can visit its 'terminals' in any large village.
