[A soft chuckle.]
Honestly, that's more or less it, at least for the physical side of things. Research is always useful, however; I like to go over data in the Pokédex of the Gym Leader's type specialty, and which Pokémon species have that typing. They all have unique strengths and weaknesses, and in the case of Flying, it's extremely rare to have a pure Flying type, so it's important to note how different type combinations give different resistances and vulnerabilities. And Falkner also hosts regular falconry demonstrations with his Pokémon.
Make sure to keep your Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses in mind as well. For example, when I challenged Falkner, I waited for a snowy day, since my Ice-type starter is not only a bit stronger in colder weather, but she has an Ability that makes it harder for Pokémon to hit her.

Yes, they tend to be common on the first few routes. My main advice is to be patient and make sure your Pokémon are happy as well. If you're first starting out, it will take some time to reach the experience needed to evolve anyway. Pokémon will perform much better in battle when they have a strong bond with their trainer, and some evolutions are triggered by a strong enough connection.

[ Horsea knows that. She makes a bubbly huff and flies into frame, flopping onto his shoulder as she does. He gently pats her head, mindful of the spikes.]
When did you know you were ready?

[Somehow, she could guess. Horsea looks adorable, and said Ice-type starter- a beautiful Alolan Ninetales with a bronze contest ribbon around her neck, gives the youngster a few soft barks of greeting from behind Allura.]
Let's see... I first arrived in October, but I wanted to take a few months to acclimate to this world and get used to training. Not to mention there are quite a few human holidays towards the end of the year. Once New Year's had concluded, however, my future boyfriend and I decided to start from Cherrygrove and work from there. By then we'd gotten roughly two and a half months' worth of training. Then again, I realize that might be more on the leisurely side, but we were well prepared for the Gym Challenge.

[ He wrinkles his nose. Oh, the memories of haggling attempts and tantrums over stock issues. ]

[Yyyeah, now she gives him an eyebrow.]
There's nothing wrong with honest labor. I still work jobs if we'll be in town for more than a week.

[ He's learned the first week that 'but I'm a big tech CEO' gathers sympathy from exactly nobody, thankfully. ]
But my team isn't getting anywhere unless I feed them. So I'll endure until the day I have enough capital for my own business.

Technical... Hm, well, you might be able to try the Pokémon Center. They always need assistance with file upkeep, and it does pay slightly more than the stores.
[And less Karen-facing.]

I imagine they're always busy with injured Pokémon. Reckless trainers, right?

[A faint twitch of a smile.]
Not always from recklessness, but yes, they are quite busy. I'm glad I could be of help... sorry, I don't believe we exchanged names.

[ His Horsea peeks into the camera and lets out a bubbly greeting. Hello! ]

Pleased to meet you, Seto. I am Allura, and this is Coressa, my Alolan Ninetales.

[ Mizuchi bubbles and bows, mimicking his nod. Looks like she's learned manners. ]
Maybe I'll meet you on the road sometime?
no subject
Perhaps. Currently I'm in Olivine City, which is a bit of a trek, but there tend to be plenty of opportunities for others to come together and meet face to face; we just had a cultural festival a few days ago, actually.
[Who knows maybe a really big opportunity for such will come up soon.]
