Louie Duck | DuckTales 2017
[There's a teenager on the screen who at first glance might appear to be wearing some really weird jewelry; a necklace that looks like claws clasped together. The reality is that Louie's new starter is a surprisingly lazy Galarian Meowth, who is half-asleep against the boy's back, hanging onto him like some kind of viking sloth.
Louie, for his part, well... He's trying to play it a bit cool and casual - this will be any newbies' first impression of him, after all - but he can't help grinning. He's so happy to be here again.]
Well, looks like I'm back, huh? [He leans a bit to show off the Meowth, who doesn't react beyond a blink.] And I finally got my cat that acts like a cat!
His name is Penningar, and mine's Louie. [He made the mistake of giving his last name straightaway the first time, and so many people were confused.] Like I mentioned, I've been here before, although it seems like I'm back at square one now. I mean, I figured my Pokemon wouldn't be waiting, but... My badges are gone, too. I guess that makes sense, but-- Man, not loving the idea of doing that again. Actually, I might, you know, not.
Anyway, shelfing that for now - as well as the fact that I'm back in time for winter and walking through snow, gross - I mostly just wanted to tell people I'm back and meet people who came here since I've been gone, I guess.
Any Early Route (Johto or Kanto)
[Okay, so having a lazy cat Pokemon always sounded great, but maybe Louie was more lucky to start with an aggressive fighter last time around than he'd thought.
At the very least, he'd like it if Penningar was more willing to walk. Oh, sure, that's the whole point of a Pokeball, but Louie likes the idea of spending time with his new partner. But the little dude weighs more than Louie wants to keep on his back at all times, which is why someone might see the teen off to the side of a route, crouched down by a sleeping Galarian Meowth. He's tugging at the Pokemon's arms, trying to get it to move.]
Come on, Penn, really? Even I can't fall asleep that quickly.
(ooc: Should Louie get back into VR, any network prompt threads can be made game-canon!)
[Route Scene]
The Pokedex picks up a partial scan of Penningar, his tail noticeably resting on top of a berry bush. And at first, she thinks it's a wild Pokemon, only to see the aforementioned trainer standing nearby...
Oh, dear. She's not an expert at pet wrangling, but that Meowth definitely doesn't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon.]
Forgive me for the intrusion, but I've heard cats tend to be extra finicky when attention is being given to them. Perhaps leaving the Pokemon alone for a few minutes will help?
no subject
You might be right with this guy. [He looks down at Penningar with a mixture of amusement, fondness, and exhaustion.] He's definitely a lot more... Cat-like than some other feline Pokemon I've known. More housecat-like, anyway.
[A pause, then he shrugs.] That or he's just plain narcoleptic. I don't know.
no subject
He must feel rather safe out here if he can just fall asleep at random. Then again, cats are known to sleep up to 16 hours daily, so your narcoleptic theory does hold weight.
[She equally offers up a shrug of her shoulders. This is why she doesn't have pets normally. It's so hard to get a read on their feelings and wants.]
It's early enough in the day to start a campfire, so why don't we have some tea and breakfast while your cat companion rests?
[With that being said, she extends her hand to Louie calmly.]
I'm Olivia, by the way.
no subject
Breakfast sounds good, sure. [He tilts his head to the side a bit and shakes her hand.] Louie. You new here, Olivia?
no subject
Speaking of that...]
Yes, I've only been here for about 10 days, so I'm still getting used to everything. It feels like a dream at times, with the music and otherworldly creatures. [She chuckles a little while unloading the necessary camping tools: a portable tea kettle, a pan, some sliced potatoes, eggs, and tomatoes. Breakfast hash it is.]
What about you, Louie? Are you doing okay out here in the wilds?
[Despite being thrust into a new role, she genuinely does care about the younger generation. Even if those same youth are actively trying to get into her Pokemon battles.]
no subject
Oh, yeah, the music is really weird. Sometimes you start to get used to it, and then it changes or whatever and... [He blows a raspberry.] But me? I'm doing okay. This isn't my first time here, actually.
no subject
[Occasionally she'll glance up at Meowth, but if nothing is amiss, she'll focus on the task at hand. The only Pokemon companion she's got is released from his Pokeball, an excited Heat Rotom. Of course, her first purchase in the land of Pokemon happened to be the transformation catalog for this very reason: versatility. Also to get her Pokemon to behave.]
[She stops working in order to stare blankly at Louie, tilting her head curiously. Without thinking about the context of her words, she speaks up, letting her weird flag fly.]
So, this isn't the afterlife? Or purgatory?

[There's a hint of sarcasm in that statement, handing him a mug of earl gray tea.]
Oh? I'd like to hear those stories sometime, if you're okay with talking about them. My world...isn't very exciting.
no subject
Sure, I could tell you about some adventures, but hey, don't sell "not very exciting" short. It's not a bad thing.

I have been keeping watch over some of your pokemon. Do you want them returned to you?
no subject
Good to see you, too. [Said with a snicker, because he knows what to expect from Rei.] And yeah! I mean, unless you wanted to hold onto them... Who'd you end up with?
no subject
The Skitty named Dime and the Stonjouner named Moorshire. I am not certain where the others may have gone.

[He sighs, his cheer fading some. He's happy to be back, but man, trying to track down his Pokemon sounds like a lot of effort-- Though he's gotta give it a try. His team is worth putting in that work, as annoying as that attachment is.
Less worth it, however--] You know what, Rei? I do not feel like traveling around fighting gym leaders again.
no subject
no subject
...Rei, did you ever do anything more about that breeding center idea?
no subject
no subject
I mean, if I'm not doing the gym stuff, it actually makes more sense for me to take the breeder label anyway. [Otherwise, he'd need to seek out at least one badge so he can fly around on a Pokemon!] Why not turn that into a business model?
Network
Louie! Wow, it's great to see you again!
I have some of your Pokemon, if you want them back. I'm sure they'll be happy to see you too.
no subject
Oh! Yeah, great, who do you have with you?
no subject
Well, we ended up back in the past where those bigger Pokemon were more common? It was...a time.
[ She hadn't entirely minded it herself, personally, but it had been pretty difficult. ]
I have Ruby the Crawdaunt, Gold Nugget the Diggersby, Nickel the Granbull, and Crown the Roserade.
