I see how it can be...unorthodox, for those unused to the idea. I'd fashioned myself into a dragon...thing, after spending so many years confined to the human form, and now that's undone.

One day, I shall have my revenge.

You know, I've been told the god of this world is what brought us here. They're some deity called Arceus who has the elemental powers of all the Pokemon at once. We're fighting that guy? Count me in.

[Eda talks about it quite flippantly, but she really is entirely on board to fight anything and anyone that dare came between her and her family.]

Ah, yes, her. She claims that of everyone—the general assessment is that she suffers from some long term madness. I'd suspect faezress poisoning myself, were I on my home plane.

A retainer. If I'm being technical she's not quite like others of her kind, but she's served me dutifully for years now.

Well, if your world has them in the form of a videogame, then I imagine you shouldn't have much trouble learning how that works here, at least.

“Oh why thanks, Radley. It is always helpful to have someone by your side at the start of one’s journey. Carmen certainly does fit the bill pretty. Is that right, Carmen?”

Oh yes, I’m that big into gardening even back at home. It has been a big interest of mine since I was a little girl and I take great pride in learning a lot about plants and botany in general.

Also back in my world, it is also helped by my ability to grow them at will.

I have the same problem with that lady claiming to be my mother too. I think that she might have some memory issues which could explain why she thought she was my Mamá when she is not. Plus I tried to use my gift moments ago but I later discovered that it is nonexistent in here. As if this world doesn’t want us to use magic at will.

In other words, magic regardless of which world it comes from is rendered as useless in this place.

Radley smiles. "It was a lot easier to get through everything at first with this sweetheart here." He pets his loving Pokemon, who nuzzles him.

She happily nods in agreement, feeling a little more hopeful being in a new world.

“This place seems to be rather peaceful aside from encounters with wild Pokémon. Has there been anything unusual that this place gets at some point?”

[crystalmaster]

Radley sighs a bit. "There's a lot of unusual things," he admits. "Usually harmless but weird. But then there's Team Rocket, a criminal organization that steals Pokemon. You have to watch out for them."

[This misassumption of his proficiency in dueling was due in no small part to his own encouragement of it. Maybe he shouldn't have pushed the limits of believability as he had but when you wanted someone to like you, it was hard... not to respond to that desire like a total moron. Besides, it seemed to be working so who was really being harmed here?

Feeling a sense of elation as she continued to pile on the praise, he stood up a little taller and tried to fight the dopey grin spreading over his features.]

.. And I'm so humble about it too!

[Don't forget that part. Seeing her kneel down to greet his monster, Tristan shot it an imploring look that seemed to say Don't do anything to hurt her. His relationship with his chimchar was still new so he didn't know how they were going to get along.

Chimchar for his part, also delights in the praise and returns the high five gesture easily with his smaller hand.]

That wasn't entirely what I meant.. [He breathed out with a defeated sigh, but he didn't bother to explain it further.] It's more than wonderful, it's terrific! Uh.. but I guess we shouldn't keep just standing around here with all these wild Pokémon just waiting to spring on us. You better stay close to me until we find the next town. [And... maybe stay close after that too. His face wanted to flood with color and betray him but he shrugged it off for now]

Say uh... how long have you been here anyway?

.. Or at least, not that anyone knows of. If someone did leave under their own power it's not like they could tell anyone about it after.

How am I always getting dragged into this stuff?

[That still would sound like a big headache for this guy]

The gym challenge? I somehow never really pictured that as something you'd be into.

[Someone hasn't been doing his homework, so he's definitely thinking of the wrong sort of gym and how Bakura would be so ill-suited for the physical endurance that would come along with it. At least with this being text, he doesn't have to explain the look that shot across his features.]

Is there some kind of button for that I need to press on my end too?

[Once the picture appears, Tristan is a bit taken aback.]

Yeah I'm getting it, but I'm not sure what I'm getting. You look so.... so....different. [He tilted his head to one side and scrutinized the feed further] Maybe you have been hitting the gym... [Though you'd still think the guy would have more definition in his muscles.]

"You're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place then." Absentmindedly, he reached up to give his pokémon a few strokes to the head as he kept his attention on her. "You know what she's thinking?" That only sounded a little peculiar to Tristan, as his gaze swept down to the Budew and back. "Did you get one that's able to talk or something?" There were times, several in fact, where he couldn't tell what his monster wanted at all. Maybe if he'd had a pet or something growing up then it would have made it easier.

"So you already know how to use that thing? ... I know I'm supposed to be helping you but I'm clueless on all of this. Can you show me what I'm supposed to do with this stuff?" And which one the Pokédex even is. That would be a good start. "I'm Tristan, by the way. Tristan Taylor, you are?"

[Something about her using his friend's proper name didn't sit well with him. By now shouldn't they all know each other well enough to stick to the more casual form? Tristan knew that he probably wouldn't get anything more out of Mai. If he wanted to know how Joey felt about ... everything, he would have to ask directly.]

That's a relief. With Joey, you never know how it's going to turn out when he's left to his own devices.

[I'm his friend, I can say these kinds of things.]

I got the message, loud and clear. You won't hear anymore about him from me.

[Though if Mai would ever talk any of this out, instead of bottling it up maybe her friends could help her out...]

Ohhhh I wish I could get away with that on workdays. Sob, the withdrawal has been real.

[Ooc: Yesssssss, early canon dub was such a lark as all the voice actors tried to find their respective niches. It is my goal to use some of those lines in rp and have them actually make some kind of sense.]

Save it for the Academy Awards.

[Swiping a hand through the air in a shooing gesture. If he'd realized just how long it had been since Joey had seen him he might have been a little more sympathetic but from Tristan's perspective he'd just seen the guy. The time difference shenanigans were going to be the most difficult part of this for him to grasp.

Also, any fond feelings would have evaporated the instant Joey noticed that monkey anyway...]

Go on, go on, get it out of your system but I'm willing to bet that my Pokémon beats whatever you arrived with.

[Please tell him... Joey got a dog pokémon. Why should he be the only one cursed to be associated to an animal for comedic purposes? Chimchar can tell from the elevated voices that his trainer is displeased but.. rolling around on the ground looks more fun so it joins in beside Joey while mimicking the cackling laughter.]

Hey! You stay out of this.. don't make it worse. [His Pokémon does not listen. It's having too much fun.]

JO-EY [Drawing the syllables out slowly as he infuses ire into his words. It's way too tempting to lob a kick at the collapsed form but he just manages to restrain himself.] Get up already! You're making a scene!

[As she waits for the other girl to take the line, she notes the hesitation.] It's no problem, and there's really no wrong way to do it. That's what all the harnesses are for. [Dana gives her own harness a firm tug to imply that this is the thing that's going to catch you if you make a misstep] I haven't had a chance to do it much lately but yeah I have. There's nothing to it.

[She paused a moment to weigh the options.]

If you think it will help, sure.

Just pay attention to how I find the handholds and footholds.. and you should get it in no time. When they set up walls like this as attractions those two things are pretty easy to spot.

[Wiping tears of laughter away from his eyes, Joey slowly recovers his composure and starts to get back up. A grin of amusement on his face, he looks at Tristan with a question on his lips as he rises.]

Makin' a scene? We're in da woods Tristan. It's s'posed ta be monkey business out here!

[Pun complete and back on his feet Joey rubs his nose and looks at Tristan's Chimchar.]

I dunno about dat lil guy bein' a match for what I rolled-up with doe, seein' as how I got da one and only Legendary Knight Hermos for my startah.

[His chest puffs-up as he gets to gloat about his definitely-not-Pokémon Duel Monsters team.]

Compared to one'a da three Knights'a Atlantis I don't think ya little friend der stands much of a chance eh Tristan?

[Tristan huffed out the deepest of sighs at that pun, and pressed a hand firmly to the side of his face]

I should have seen that one coming from a mile away. If you're done making a monkey of me, maybe we can finally get back to the real issue?

[Actually, you did most of that all to yourself Tristan. The Chimchar also stops rolling around on the ground taking a sudden interest in the other trainer's backpack. Just staring. That might not remain the case.]

Hermos is here?! [Totally thinking about the real Hermos and not assuming that Joey just... named a Pokémon after him] How can that be? I thought we were done with all that Atlantis stuff.

[With Joey, it's hard to tell where the bravado ends and the truth begins.]

Enough bragging, if you're so proud of him why don't you summon him so I can get a look at him?

Their Pokemon would be left behind, though. In most cases, I think the Pokemon are found, unless they return to the wild. Sometimes friends of the person get the Pokemon. Other times, I think they end up at a Pokemon sanctuary.

You're really hung up on these Pokémon, aren't you?

[No offense to his Chimchar, but Tristan hasn't exactly had a chance to form a strong attachment yet.]

So there's like .. some kind of invisible shield that specifically keeps the monsters trapped here. Sounds like another game I had to play once.

In this case, I'm just pointing out that it would be hard for someone to vanish without others realizing they were gone.

I'm not sure what keeps them here, but yeah.
