Is it really that nuanced? I know about some of the type matchups, since a lot of them are kind of common sense -- fire beats ice, ground beats electric, that sort of thing. But the rest of it...

[Holding things in battle? Extra effects of moves? Something about Pokemon personalities affecting their battling capabilities? And to think that's just the tip of the iceberg. Maybe she does have an awful lot of learning to do...]

Well, I'd hardly be me if I wasn't competitive! I was good at a lot of competitive sports back home. It'll be a long road to get better at this, but as long as I'm here, I may as well try to fit in.

Yes, there are many aspects to it. Not everyone will excel in the same areas but it's like that with all things. You will find a method that works best for you, whether it's you meta-gaming or battling head long in and scraping by the skin of your teeth.

[The comment about competitive sports piques his interest as she can tell by his stature perking up a bit.]

What sort of sports did you compete in, if I may ask?

[That's a healthy amount of confidence in her voice as she brushes some hair back and grins. Locally famous twin brother be damned; she's proud of her accomplishments!]

I might be slight compared to some people, but technique is everything when you're at a physical disadvantage. And I suppose that goes for Pokemon, too.

Ohho. That's quite the list of accomplishments! I see now why you're as passionate as you are about becoming a trainer then.

[It's good to see people strive to do their best and achieve so many things, especially when so young. It genuinely warms Monsoon's heart hearing that.]

You're absolutely correct. What you lack in brawn you can make up for in brains. As long as you keep that mindset, I believe you'll have very little trouble getting your feet under you and becoming one of the best trainers this world has to offer.
