In response, she holds up her own palm, in a "hang on" gesture. ]

You're going to have to explain the symbolic point of raising that particular finger. In my world, we have less fingers, so any particular meaning you're trying to give across is lost on me.

[ Her deadpan voice might accidentally come across as sarcastic, but she is genuinely serious and curious about this. ]

[Tomi places his hands on the back of his head in a halfhearted attempt to look cool and collected, but as he goes to lean back, his at-that-point invisible Sobble manifests on his shoulders, causing his to break his practised]
Jeez! Buddy! Gotta... stop doin that. Nah, I ain't mad at ya, ya just scared the Bejeezus outta me...
[Pretending as if nothing ever happened, Tomi turns to face his camera]
Anyway, you ever had one'a those virtual pets? They were all the rage when I was your age. Anyway, as I was saying... These guys're like, the final form of virtual pets! They're not just animals, they're a pet, companion and multitool all in one! Ain't that cool? Obviously, I'm not sayin' treat em like emotionless robots or what have ya, but you've seen the Smeargle Street Artists? The Oranguru Cafes? The Corviknight Taxis? [That particular reference gets a grin out of Tomi]. There's like, a symbiotic relationship these guys' got goin' on with us. Make sense?

Who knows, maybe it'd lead you to one of those beetle guys ya seem so enthused about?"

[ The girl cocked her head and raised an eyebrow. Treasure trove? ]

Oh my, that sounds exciting... Did someone leave their camp behind? It seems odd that they would leave so much behind.

Unless they were eaten by one of these creatures. [ no, shiki, that... probably didn't happen but good effort?? ]

Perhaps we should investigate!

[ Adaine's eye twitches as she is completely thrown for a loop, her anger derailed by something as simple as a difference in species. ]

In most five-fingered cultures, raising your middle finger at someone is a way of expressing anger towards them. It's a physical "fuck you" sign.

Interesting. Is there any particular reason why it's that finger that is chosen to symbolize anger? I do know that in several cultures, it's the pointer that's the most accusatory.

[ Regardless of whether the diffusion is intentional or not, it's working. ]

You know, I... don't know... I know that in Fallinel, people often give the V-sign, [ She demonstrates a two-fingered gesture. ] ...and people say that it originated when elven longbowmen who had been captured by enemy nations had their index and middle fingers chopped off so that they would be unable to wield bows anymore. But honestly, I don't know how accurate that origin myth is. It's been centuries since Fallinel was at war with Solace.

[ A brief pause, then she clarifies. ]

Well... Up until last year, it had been centuries.

Fascinating. In my world, the V is often used as a sign of victory or peace, particularly when taking photos. However, there's also a gesture I recently became aware of where you point at your eyes with two fingers, then at the person you wish to intimidate, to create the visual threat of "I'm keeping my eyes on you."

[ This is fun. Learning and exchanging cultures are fun. ]

Yes, we've both of those usages as well. The V-sign is strictly an insult when used with the palm of your hand facing inward.

[ It is fun! It's almost so fun that Adaine forgot how the conversation started. Thankfully, her Purrloin is there to remember, winding her way through Adaine's legs before hissing at the Espurr. ]

Oh, right. [ Adaine puts her Angry Face™ back on. ] Why are you hoarding books?! Don't you know that this library is for everyone to use??

Violet actually looks around a bit. Has she been hoarding? Or did she not even realize what Espurr was doing?]

To be honest, I wasn't aware there was anyone else in this library before I started my reading. When I divulge into studies, I tend to get overly absorbed and unable to notice the world around me. If I have a book you were interested in, you can take it back.

[ Adaine raises an eyebrow, as though she's in disbelief that if she tries to take her book back (again), the Espurr will actually allow her to keep it this time. But, she does try, reaching in and grabbing the History of Kanto Volume 3 that she had been leafing through before it was so unceremoniously yanked from her grasp. ]

[ Apparently Loki is the name of the Espurr, as Violet moves to hold him up in front of her face.

This is Aelwyn. She's named after my sister, also known for trickery and deception.

[ She places Loki down, though gives him a few ear scritches. ]

I understand the temptation to name one of these creatures after a sibling. But I'm waiting to find one that more matches my own sister's temperament... and that would cause the funniest expression were she to discover it.

Ilex Investigation

"Alright! I've been around these woods a fair bit already, so I'll give ya the round trip tour." [Several years of taxi-driving along the mean streets of Waikiki has given Tomi a sense of direction that could rival even the most resolute of Corviknight riders... Or, so he'd like to believe]
"Oh, and I forget to mention; my name's Tomizawa. Tomi if you'd like ta keep it short and simple. This fella's name's still a work in progress" [He motions to his Sobble, chowing down on an Oran berry in uncharacteristic bliss]

[Tomi takes the lead, and the duo cut their way into the woodland clearing. Retracing his steps, the cabby turns to find only a desecrated backpack remaining, every other good seemingly vanished]
"Just a word of caution, but I think we might not be alone. Keep your eyes pee- What the?!-"
[Before Tomi's able to complete the rest of the statement, a Heracross rockets through the air, and slams into him, hard.]

Oh it's fine!!! It's not like anything happened he just. Isn't in this place anymore, you know? Probably back home in Norway if I'm being honest...

Me, I'm fine where I am, hot wife, great friends... ...Don't know how many magical beings you're going to be seeing here but there's plenty of pokemon at least?

There are enough varieties of Pokemon types, personalities, and appearances, that I'm sure you'll run into one sooner or later. What's your sister like? Maybe I can give you some suggestions to look out for.
