Normally, Cali would've been greeted to the saturated pinks of her apartment that smelled like artificial cotton candy, but this was a very new place indeed. No eye seering colors in sight, the room smelled like sun warmed laundry, and absolutely no cotton candy sugar cluster cereal with marshmallows in sight. Cali, oh Cali, had she been close to normal would've been rightfully freaking out. Instead, she got up to explore her new surroundings like the sugar driven gremlin she is.

"Hi! Hi! Hello? Anyone here?" Cali called out before navigating to the door, opening it up to see what's outside.

Beetlejuice has a soft spot for New Bark Town--it's where he'd suddenly and mysteriously become Alive and experienced so many new things for the first time. It was also full of inexperienced and gullible trainers, so it was always worth swinging by occasionally.

"Step right up, step right up, and try the flavor of the season!" A voice calls out to the streets.

Beetlejuice has set up a booth on the sidewalk consisting of a single card table, a flimsy sign reading: TRY THE BEETLE'S JUICE, and an open cooler filled with neon green bottles. He's dressed for the warmer weather in his Bug Catcher get-up, but has made sure to wear some BEETLE'S JUICE branded pins on his hat and shirt just to make his whole deal look more legit.

It's then that he spies the girl with that tell-tale curious and lost expression making her way out into the world of Pokemon. Beetlejuice rubs his grimy hands together and whispers to the Chatot who is perched on his shoulder,

"Here comes a sucker, Chatz... HELLO THERE! YOU, YES YOU! C'mere..."

Behind the rose tinted glasses of the plague mask, Cali's attention was fully on the neon green bottles. Without thinking, Cali walks right on out into the open and right towards the equally weird guy at the stand, if a mask could smile, it'd be a wide blown one that was for sure. There was a bit of shock at just how clean everything was outside considering the world she came before was often smog filled. Up she went to the man with the rather odd looking bird nearby selling what was hopefully highly sugar based.

"Hi Hi! Nice to meet you! I'm Calliope, but everyone calls me Cali!" Cali cheerily greeted in a fast paced voice, her sugar rush evident.

The mask isn't something he usually sees around Johto, but he's not bothered. She seems to be taking things so well that he wonders if she's actually just visiting town too rather than waking up in a strange house. He gives her a winning (and yellow) smile and his Chatot squawks a greeting.

"Well aren't you a ray of sunshine? Cali, are you ready to send your taste buds on the ride of their lives?"

He fishes one of the bright green bottles out of the cooler and waggles it a little.

"Only 1000P!"

"What's P? Is it sugary too?" Cali asked as she peered about at the bright green bottle fully curious at what sugary delight it'll bring.

Cali's brain was going into overdrive on trying to figure out what flavor the green drinks were, were they lime or was it that fabled guava that she heard about in bedtime stories. Noticing the yellow teeth, Cali felt much more at home as it was a current fashion trend to dye teeth, though normally it was done to resemble keys on a piano.

The chatot, catching Cali's attention once again, "Also how'd you get your parrot's feathers to look like a music note?"

Ahh, his original suspicions were correct. This girl has no idea what's going on.

"You must be new." He leans forward and rests his scruffy chin on a fist.

Chatter Box, his bird, squawks again. "She's a Pokemon-- Chatot. And P is cold hard cash." He reaches into his pocket and fishes out a couple of shiny coins. He holds them in his fingers, but not close enough that she could take them.

"Did you wake up with a backpack? You'll probably have some P in there."

Cali nods eagerly as she reach behind for the backpack, "Oh! Okay let's see, I normally can't leave home without my backpack, so it should have some cash in here. So what's a Pokemon?"

Normally on her back would've been the Lisa Frank colored teddy bear backpack, but this time around, she had a regular pack for an unknown reason. Curious at the sudden change of bags, "Oh wow, my bag changed! I think I can dress it up nicer with some patches and buttons. Hopefully I still have my oxygen tank in there still."

Cali goes to rummage around the new bag, fully curious what it has now since it's like a kinder egg surprise! Truly it's going to be magical whatever she finds in there for sure.

Beetlejuice quietly collects this information. This kid just busted out of Mom's house without asking questions, huh? Oh well! If he talks to her, she'll probably eventually buy one of his horrible drinks.

"You don't even know you're in another dimension, do ya, babe?"

"Another dimension? Well, that certainly would explain why there hasn't been a corrosive fog warning today.." Cali casually said as though that was just normal thing as a spring rain fall.

To Cali, today has been an awesome start with a possible new friend and magical looking creatures to learn about. Such a wonderful thing to kick off a new start after recently gaining a medical license, Cali smiled inside of her mask proudly.

"That it would, that it would." His eyes crawl over her mask, searching for any sign of vulnerability. He finds none. "You won't find much corrosive fog here, unless you happen to be training a Wheezing."

He holds the bottle over to Chatter Box who reaches out with her powerful beak and pries the cap off the bottle with no effort. BJ, in turn, takes a swig from the bottle.

"Yes sirree, you're in the world of Pokemon now. Your whole life is about to be catching, training, breeding, nurturing, and if you're lucky, selling Pokemon. You should have a book in your bag that'll tell you all about it. Just know that Pokemon aren't for eating. Don't even try, you'll regret it."

I. The power plant

Viktor goes, together with his Butterfree, to see the facility. Not as a tourist, no, although he can pretend- the real reason is that he's curious.

He glances at the Butterfree and mutters to it, "Hex, do you think we'll find anything here? Anything that will explain what we're doing here, but, ech, really and not just some myths and propaganda? I do tire of not knowing."

II. Silence Bridge.

It's a long walk, so hopefully there are some good resting places at least, on this bridge. Well, whether there are or not, Viktor is going to sit down sometimes, on the way. Begrudgingly.

[Viktor will first glance there and see if anybody else is helping Cali. Because if anybody else is, then it's not necessarily in him to bother to do so, with a stranger.]

Cali is, for a lack of a better word, hyperactive upon arrival (I don't think she realizes she was supposed to meet with Mom just yet :x) However, it doesn't take the little Cavity Queen too long to notice Viktor there and oh boy, oh my, here comes the circus to greet him.

"Hey Hey! You're new too?" Cali asked in her usual fast paced and happy tone, the sticker decorated plague doctor mask checking out the new person.

[leaning slightly on his cane, Viktor turns to face the hyperactive, hmm, person, likely]

"In a manner of.. speaking",

[Viktor replies, slightly drily.]

"Is there anything you, hrm, need of me? 'f not, I shall be on my way. And you, your, I believe. Which would benefit us both the most, I gather."

"Well..do you know how to operate this Tuppi? It's pretty fancy and I'm not used to something that high tech." Cali was a bit baffled by Viktor before letting him see the PokeGear or 'Tuppi' as she called it.

Cali wasn't exactly sure what to make of Viktor, but he seems like a perfectly good gentleman to her in a manner of speaking. Well Viktor, the rainbow candied colored plague doctor lady (or girl...she is so short oh my goodness) is holding up a weird looking phone thing.

ostensibly not-sighing, Viktor takes the thing with his free hand. He's already familiarised himself with this new technology. His Butterfree leaves his Pokeball unbidden and flies around the gear. Viktor pretends not to see the Butterfree, although his face maybe softens a bit.

"Miss, you need to click here - and here - andnow, you can choose this option, see; or, if unnecessary for you, you pick this value instead. Now, do you have any communicators in the place you've come for? I assume you do. If not, think of letters, or other kind of messages. Next, look, these options here- you need to know what you wish to achieve with this device, first, and then- any questions? you need to choose this or-

-remember, do NOT click at random, this device isn't likely to malfunction, but still, one never knows, if you don't want to experiment with it too much, you should keep to safe, basic, primitive options of the device or-"

It becomes pretty clear to Cali that Viktor wasn't from an Exile Colony like she was, he must be from an Earth Colony instead was a natural conclusion. Cali continues to keep up pretty well despite the initial impression...Viktor I think this thing might be a lot smarter than she appears...

"Okay so this is a digital device then. Back where I came from, the magnetic field would mess something like this up. It was a bit more easier having an electric device like the Tuppi instead, easier to repair and lasts longer." Cali cheerily summed it up and yeah...I don't think she has either an exhausted or bored setting.

"...digital?"

that word does not exist where Viktor's from, sorry.

"What does that mean? Anyway, it's a fairly sophisticated device, I can tell this much. Magnetic? Eh, perhaps. Have you checked?"

Viktor does not ask, does not even think in any part of his mind to ask what are you, fyi, because who cares right now, and there are various species (~~for example look up his professor and boss, Heimerdinger, if you're curious~~) in Runeterra.

One hand on his cane, he puts another to his forehead, as, well, he's beginning to get a headache. Since coming to this place, he hasn't found any good medicine. Well, at least he's not coughing, yet, so he'd say he's perfectly fine, if anybody who he's not friends or partners with asks. And maybe even if a friend asked.

"how long have you, uh, been here? In this world? Just for... comparison."

"Oh it's really super cool! So you know how radios work on a frequency such as certain waves? Digital devices work in a similar fashion too but with much more tools to use like long distance communication or even video chat. Problem is that magnets have a habit of stripping away and erasing programs, effecting the information on there or even deleting it entirely making it useless. They're also insanely hard to repair on your own." Cali was more than eager to explain, figuring Viktor was from the Earth Colony of Venus instead.

The thought of checking for a magnetic field hadn't occurred to Cali though nor the idea that Viktor was from an entirely different timeline than her own. To her, this is basically a wish came true to be on something that looked very much like the fabled Earth she heard so much about. However, Cali does pick up on the headache that Viktor was starting to have (doctor senses be scary its true).

"Oh, I didn't even think to check for a magnetic field yet and I just woke up here this morning. May I ask though, is the pain starting behind the brow bone or does it feel like a tight band around the forehead?"

Hmm. Interesting, Viktor thinks. And besides...
"Digital," Viktor says, "sounds like it should describe something more elegant than just that. However, that, uhnh, is probably only because it's my first time hearing the world."

Cough. Cough.

Viktor does what he can NOT to draw attention to sudden coughs of his. If you're just going by his behaviour before a short series of coughs and after, this means [or should mean absolutely nothing] as far as the young scientist's concerned (well, he's not middleaged yet, so, young).

"Insanely hard to repair?"
Sounds like a good challenge.
Now, said with a small smirk, "Perhaps I should try repairing one, once it nearly expires."
Unsaid: sounds like a good challenge and stimulation.

As to her question...

Blink.
Giving her a slightly owlish look, the potential patient asks,
"But you're not, hrm, a professional doctor? Or- are you studying t' become one?"

If she is studying though, Viktor decides that... well, she should be warned before trying to tackle an S lvl challenge if she's only D lvl or something so to speak. And yes, this place is no Academy, but Viktor thinks - only sometimes - that kind people are owed basic politeness and manners - especially if they are trying to help, even if it's an utterly lost case.
"I have, according to doctors, anywhere between three and eleven months left to live - my body, that is, if you are a believer in one of several kinds of afterlife."

There are young doctors who find comfort in some gods or others, or other fairytales. Viktor wouldn't offend such a belief, even though t'is not for him, personally.

His preferred afterlife is memories. Professor Heimerdinger's. Sky Young's. Jayce Talis's. Other colleagues'. Some poor people's like Viktor, especially some small children hopefully, for whom Hextech will be a miracle of some kind.
Memory - not of Viktor's face or name, but of his footprints on the world, in some way.
Though too ambitious, perhaps, but, well...
If nothing else, ms Sky Young's memories and Jayce's memories. That much - is an assured part in this somewhat introverted 'religion'. Heimerdinger's memories - a less certain part. Other colleagues - eh, only on optimistic days.
This is Viktor's 'religion'.
"Just... fair warning, miss. Five months, the most realistic prognosis I had so far said. If you still wish to know of my symptoms"

And, unsaid, are, as medicine student? Or whatever you are? not disappointed yet,

"I will gladly tell you of my, ech, symptoms. It's nothing special - a quite common illness in some parts of the Undercity. If you'd like a case study, I'm happy to help."

A few of his Pokemon suddenly leave Pokeballs. A few ghostly pokemon among them.

Viktor blinks and says, "Rio, that's enough. Go back to your ball. I shall pet you later. You hear me? Later. Now I'm discussing some matters with this kind young women. Back to ball, Rio. Good girl. Yes, now. Good girl, Rio. Goo--"

Cough.

A terminal case? Cali was briefed on the subject back in med school on patients that are in end of life care (Be it from the mythical old age, genetic condition, or radiation exposure) and how it was to be handled. Religion wasn't normally a go to in cases like it as that's a personal preference and had to be requested first. No, it was being able to provide physical comfort during the last remaining years or months of the patient. It was surprising that euthanasia wasn't chosen to prevent further suffering, but it was clear that Viktor was a fighter of sorts in that sense.

Cali wasn't sure what pain relief medications was legal here or what else could be done for Viktor to keep him comfortable and able to enjoy what time was left to live. All Cali knows right now is there is someone that needs help and it's her job to ensure that he is receiving the care needed. One thing she does know was that she'll likely have to hunt for something digital and broken for Viktor to entertain himself with as that's really good for mental stimulation. Cali goes to look and see where she could have Viktor sit down on as she goes to respond to his question in a warm, caring tone.

"I just graduated from Medical school where I came from and received my license on the same day, but, I can listen to your symptoms though and I can see where we can go from there. Did your doctors have you on any certain pain medications or any specific hospice care routines to make things comfortable for you?"

Viktor plans to reply politely at first, and he leans harder on his crutch to make himself more stable - meanwhile, one of his ghostly pokemons, the cutesy one he had called Rio, floats around him in a slight frenzy - but then, the question---

"Excuse me, miss, but I'm not bored of my life yet. Nor am I going to throw all my, eh, earthly possessions away yet, nor my research. Forget any... hospice care... when it comes to me, ms doctor."

Tch.

He did not raise his voice. He does not raise it now. His cadence is steady and tone of voice almost icy.

"...forget I've said anything, Miss. Doctor."

If he did not look so polite, the word doctor would sound like a quiet curse directed at her. Perhaps it still does. Half secretly.

He looks almost calm - but as a doctor, she can probably see suddenly seething quiet irritation flowing through him. Very quiet, now, after his words. Like
Not a waterfall, but a rain that can drip drip drip erode something slowly without violent acts. If such rain had a soul, could one call it hostile?

Ah--

"My apologies, kind miss. Doctor. Hospice care would be, hrm, wasted on a cripple from the Undercity who can't stop moving for a day. I do appreciate your inquiries, though. Very kind of you."

The words...It's still like a metaphorical rain hitting mountain rocks. It's just that mountain rocks are not going to notice - or would they? - especially as the tone is now bordering on the most polite ever.

If Viktor could hear her thoughts and thought she might euthanise him, he could strangle her right now. In self defense.

Even if Janna came to him and told him that he's dying in June. Viktor would say, well, fine, I need to tell professor Heimerdinger and Jayce all my half baked ideas right now, that will be so embarassing, but I know they will research stuff - slowly. Beggars can't be choosers. I will mess up even Jayce's sleep schedule for a time, but he will forgive me next year or someday. S fine

"Oh, I must have misspoken then. From what you said, you said you had at least five to eleven months. I wasn't sure if you had any sort of pain management plans in place for it, being off certain pain management meds or even ones provided in hospice can have pretty bad consequences like seizures or withdrawals. That's why I was asking about them first. Shoot, I never gave you my last name, it's Macabre, Cali Macabre." Cali explained, feeling pretty bad she upset Viktor like that and it's pretty clear in her voice too.

Cali wasn't from something fancy like Plitover, so she doesn't understand the reaction all too much. The deaths were she came from were often pretty miserable and rather painful ones, most hope they'd be taken by the lethal corrosive fog instead. It's pretty clear that where Cali came from, it could be comparable to Viktor's world version of the Undercity, but less crime and more radioactive horrors. I don't think Cali is though picking up on the hostility from Viktor from it, she's reading more as upset and having inadvertently offended him somehow.

[Viktor might try to invite Death for tea and try to poison death with arsenic. And then apologise to Death for being so uncultured, but he just had to try, once. It would have made Vik feel better. Maybe. Sorry. XD ;) /ooc]

"I've spoken too harshly. Perhaps hospice care is better where you come from. Could I still spend my days in my laboratory, if I perhaps spent two nights weekly in hospice care, where you come from? If not, that is pointless. Boredom would murder me before my lungs could finally do that."

"I did not truly mean to criticise your suggestion. I knew people who had such preferences. For, mhm, hospice care. That felt nice for them, I am sure. Old people. Children, if they could just get enough shiny toys while in care - I made some toys even, that felt nice, for a time, even if it helped nothing."

His voice softens and he's not hostile now.

"If you know any child in need of a toy, tell me and I'll make one. Though it might be ugly, sorry, I'm not a professional toy maker."

He's not. And he is not hostile anymore.

"Viktor. It's a pleasure, Dr Macabre."

"As for my illness - it's simply the Grey disease, though I don't know if you'd be fsmiliar. Half a lifetime exposure to slightly poisonous gasses, nothing much - but that does have an effect, on the lungs, you see. It is corrosive - and, ah, I live elsewhere now, don't worry. I moved out to the topside. For health reasons. To breathe. So one would think it's all good now. However, as a doctor, you surely would understand that what's broken can't always be fixed."

He gives her a small smile.

"It's not anybody's fault."

(OOC: on how to kill Death :P I should mention it as I realized I dropped the ball, VR is a no death game, so when Viktor officially arrives to the Pokemon World, whatever ailments he had before would be cured and likely with a new pair of lungs. Arceus here is weirdly a really good health care provider along with being Dr. Reanimator for others :o)

"I've never heard of Grey Disease before, but that sounds horrible, lung damage is really hard to bounce back from. I'll do what I can to help you out though, I'll try and make it as comfortable as possible so you can enjoy life as much as possible." Cali said as she sensed the tension lower and goes to talk to calmly to Viktor after what happened there along with the disease Viktor has.

Cali listened to Viktor as he spoke, she smiled behind her mask at the offer as it truly was a lovely plan, "I think any child would happy with a toy you made, it means something that way. You put time, love, and energy into it, that's what makes it beautiful to any child that receives it."

This left one more thing though, explaining where Cali came from as it's clear, Viktor likely didn't know about the Exile Colonies or the rather nightmarish conditions they're in.

"Where I came from, we have a lot of radioactive contaminated sites with reactor plant being at about eighteen sieverts currently. Sometimes, you really can't bounce back from that if you inadvertently wander into it. Normally options are offered if the patient was exposed to eight or higher sieverts during scavenging for parts." Cali explains a bit where she came from, though she is avoiding the rather dreadful corrosive fog, that one could be a bit too much for Viktor.
