[Frisk comes onto the feed apparently laying back against a bush, a little sleepy-eyed but not terribly so given the time of day. They aren't little, but a whole day of tromping through the woods is tiring even if you are used to it.]

I think it'll be okay. Y' jus' gotta make friends with 'em an' then they're real nice.

I can't make friends while I'm asleep!

[Frown...processing...]

Um...maybe if y' make a lotta friends, then they can tell th' rest you're okay?

I guess that could work in the future.

_{[Maurice cranes his neck back to look over Meatloaf's shoulder at the tall grass.]}

Maybe I could build a wall outta rats and birds.

I r'member seein' some little kitties, too!

[The bush Frisk is laying on suddenly makes a lout bleat, and a black nose pushes on-screen to nuzzle at Frisk with a worried look.]

I dunno about that. I met a purple cat a ways back and it didn't like me too mu--THAT BUSH IS AN ANIMAL.

_{[Maurice isn't sure he's ever going to stop being surprised at all the shapes these Pokemon come in.]}

[The animal-bush lets out a startled bleat, and Frisk giggles.]

Ehehe! Yeah, his name's Buddy! He's really comfy.

_{[Maurice sits up straighter, now successfully distracted from the oncoming night by this new Pokemon. He can't stop grinning. Look at it! It has leaves growing right out of it!]}

I haven't seen anything like him yet! Where'd you find Buddy?

He was with me when I got here! I think he's a...um...a Skiddy?

[Skiddo, Frisk, but close.]

What kind is your friend?

A Skiddy, huh? I'll keep my eyes peeled, I gotta get me one of those. But THIS GUY--

_{[He twists around and throws an arm around the sleepy rock-type's neck and wakes him up. Meatloaf gives a whistly grunt of protest. They've been traveling all day and he's tired!]}

--is Meatloaf! He's a Ryhorn and probably the coolest Pokemon there is! When he gets a little bigger, I'm gonna ride him like a motorcycle!

Ohhh, gosh, he's so cute!

[Frisk...]

I hope he gets super big, that sounds like so much fun! I can ride around on Buddy a lil' bit, but he gets tired quick so I didn' do it much.

_{[Maurice leans down to plant a loud obnoxious kiss on his not-a-rhino's brow. Meatloaf lets out a snort and tosses his head but it's obvious he likes the attention.]}

He's my best friend and I love 'em and he's gonna be the size of a MINI VAN. Maybe. The one in the picture on my guide thing looked a lot bigger...actually. This guide thing says he's a rock type and a ground type...but shouldn't that just be the same thing?

Yeah!! He'll get super super big an' you can ride him alla th' way 'cross th' world!

[They blink then, and frowns for a moment. That's kind of a good point...]

Um...well, th' ground's kinda softer than a rock, I guess?

A little I guess...but there's not an inch on this guy that's soft. Look!

_{[He knocks on the Rhyhorn's hide with his knuckles--it gives off a sharp sound as though he's rapping on concrete.]}

I'll be honest, I don't know much about all this Pokemon stuff...I'd heard about it on TV a couple of times back home but that's it.

Mmm...I saw 'em in th' games stuff sometimes, but I never played it. Th' bigger kids didn' let me.

[And the way they talked about it, it seemed complicated, too.]

Maybe th' soft spot's s'posed t' stay secret?

I guess that'd make sense...like an armadillo or something! Meatloaf, are you just a big armadillo?

_{[The sky shifts from purple to dark blue and Maurice's grin falls away. He sinks back down in his spot, shoulders hunching. It's so weird being out at night as a human again. He can hardly make out the shapes of the trees now.]}

First thing tomorrow...I'm gonna try and catch something that makes light. And hope this phone thing's batteries don't die on me.

[From somewhere in the distance, there is unbridled....screaming. ~~and Bonetroussle~~]

[Wait, they recognize that yell! Frisk sits up abruptly, and Buddy lets out a startled and worried bleat.]

[Non-skeletal missile incoming! THERE ARE ALSO SO MANY TEARS]

[THIS IS MUCH MORE MASS THAN FRISK WAS EXPECTING INCOMING, OH GOODNESS. Buddy lets out one of those horrible goat screams and goes diving to hide in a bush, and Frisk is rather flattened on the ground.]

[They are hugging back, though!!]

Papyrus?! You got stuff all over you!

[He's too busy hug crying.] FRIIIIIIIIIISSSSSK!!!!!
