[ Dirk is not there for the food. He's just there for Jane. The food is a fantastic bonus that comes with the Jane Crocker Experience.

The Pokemon thing is new. Whatever. He's assuming he's invited because Jane and he would be crashing the hell out of this cook-out anyway. It does not matter where he was because he is getting his plush rump over to her spot on Route 30 ASAP. He's so happy she's there. Like, freakishly happy. He might openly smile about it. It's going to be a thing. He has no beef with Jane. If Roxy or Jake showed up, he might be a little more apprehensive about this. He has things he needs to talk about with those two. But Jane? There's mostly relief his friend is there. ...Thoughts about this being an unfair trick of the universe throwing them in another game, aside.

He was never exactly in the loop here. Everyone else from their side Paradox Space is from the super depressing alternate timeline where everyone apparently died horribly except John - who did... something and made his timeline? The people that are here are part of this super close friend unit, even if John's friendly as hell and Dave's great (more than great). Dirk feels like a fifth wheel. Even the people the group has met from various universes seem like they have a closer relationship than himself.

Jane's just Jane. God bless Jane.

[If asked, Dirk might notice the differences between his and Jane's timeline - the presence of the creepy trollclown, the utter batshit fuckery of their kernelsprites - ugh, she could go on. But there's one notable thing about Jane's memories, and that's the utter lack of possession and death in them. The last thing she remembers, she'd just gone God Tier, and her conversation with Dirk beforehand was positive enough for her to look up, surprised, when she hears his voice, and for a smile to break out on her face.]
