"It's wild." Which makes it more annoying. He doesn't really want to catch it. But maybe...

He didn't want it. But it was free training. He glanced down to the Cubone and waved a hand at the Geodude. "Remove it."

The Cubone advanced and began to beat the Geodude with it's club repeatedly. That's how this Pokemon thing worked, right?

".... Your Pokémon have attacks you can call out for them to use." Was this guy a complete newbie? Even Dipper knows that much when it comes to battling. Seems he knows more than an adult!

"I'm aware. It is using 'Bone Club'." At the words, the Cubone gave a particularly brutal strike, knocking out the Geodude. It turned to it's trainer and walked back to him, looking for praise. Walter knelt down.

"You've done well, Assumption." His tone remained pleasant. "Next time, you will defeat it in fewer blows."

"You're supposed to tell it that, not assume it's gonna use it. It's not psychic." Seriously. Did this guy even read the manual? Even his sister had read it! Battling 101 was in that!

Adults.

Walter stood, staring at Dipper. Ungrateful. He had assisted the child with a problem and instead he saw fit to critique how he had done so. His expression remained carefully blank, with only a touch of dismissiveness snaking in.

"It is a good thing I could benefit from this. Otherwise I should have left you to suffer with it." Life is suffering and humanity is cruel. The child wouldn't learn that with his intervence. But, the combat experience was more beneficial than teaching Dipper what he would learn on his own, in time.

This is what happens when you deal with Dipper Pines. He's been around adults who have made stupid decisions all summer. You're getting off pretty easy with him-

".... I didn't ask for your help. Adults always think kids can't do anything!" He would have handled it in his own way. Could have just bribed it because both he and his Pokémon are tired.

Walter's expression didn't change. The kid was tired, and evidently his pokemon couldn't handle a simple Geodude. He could easily challenge this child but to what end? His pokemon weren't rare or powerful enough to be worth the effort.

He shifted his weight and addressed the Cubone, still staring at Dipper. "Come along, Assumption. We have duties to attend to." He turned to leave.

Rude adult is rude. Dipper feels bad for that Cubone. Not only for the name but for having a trainer like that. There was no love or caring that this kid could hear or see.

So he stares right back. Two can play this game. Following his trainers lead, the Espurr stares as well. Creepy cat is creepy.

He's got better things to do than stare at a rude child. Like be creepy at people more worthy of his time. He leaves with his Cubone, footsteps fading as he vanished into the dark.
