who r u again?Hey crush! But no, seriously. Diana told Walter a while ago that she liked him because he didn't trust her and that's still kind of the truth? Diana is whole heatedly convinced she's a horrible person and while it doesn't feel great to hear Walter all but confirm it, it's kind of a relief to have someone who isn't immediately telling her she isn't. These people don't know her, so how do they automatically guess that she's good?
It's probably something about survivors recognizing each other but part of her can just tell Walter's been through some shit of his own, backed up by the tidbits she's gleamed from him. That's probably why she's admitted the small parts she has told him, which she normally would keep under lock and key. Because Walter doesn't care, he treats her the same way regardless.
Diana's played up the bitchy role for a long time so it's nice to be able to just chill around Walter. Be playful. Be sad. Get frustrated. She recognizes that Walter's very similar to her, but she can also see that he's not inherently terrible like she is. He's got friends (people and Pokemon wise) as she can spot that's he's got good in him. Not the whole, 'oh deep down you're a fun loving joy filled person who loves everyone' Disney thing but more the idea that, you can be genuinely nice and caring about those you let be close.
This biggest problem is she's entirely convinced Walter at best tolerates her but realistically probably hates her. And yeah, that upsets her, but who doesn't hate a bitch? Right now, it's just a weight off her shoulders when he lets her be around. What can she say? She likes being with him.
And obviously, yes, she does find him attractive. He's shy and easily flustered and that's cute. But he's also handsome, older and she's always had a thing for the bad boys, a category Walter (sadly for him) falls into, because it's the clever bad boys she likes. And she's seen a gleam of another part to him under that adorable bashfulness that she also might have a thing for... Though now she know he's uncomfortable as opposed to just flustered, she'll be making an effort to control herself, verbally at least.
That aside, her attraction isn't intrinsically tied to her liking him. She likes him and so she cares about him. And with her complete lack of self esteem she's put down about the idea that it's always, in her eyes, gonna be a one sided 'friendship', but she can live with it.
And I would write more but this is getting long.
