Her crush on him is actually a huge negative for him. It makes him immensely uncomfortable around her and he doesn't want anyone to be romantically interested in him. He's barely worthy of friendship, let alone anything else, and he's not interested in her either for mutliple reasons. And to a degree, he doesn't believe it either. He thinks it's clearly something to try and ensnare him with to hurt him later.
He thinks her interactions with him are mostly for her own benefit. After the Rockruff incident, he can't shake off the idea that she pities him and thinks he needs her company and that doing so makes her a 'better person'. But the thing is; sometimes she's okay. Sometimes they can be comfortable and it's not bad or weird and that's pleasant. It's nice.
He just doesn't know man. While he can tell she's got a history...who doesn't? Part of it is his backstory and beliefs coming into play. He was taught that all humans cause harm. And he's not going to say someone hasn't caused hurt because, it's just what humans do. And he doesn't know her history.
