[Armin flinches, just slightly.

She knows.

He was foolish to discount the possibility that she might be from his future, so to speak. A future, apparently, where his suspicions have been aired and judging by her behaviour, were found to be true.]

Annie, wait.

[He cannot let her just walk away. Even if he now has the answer to one of the questions that have haunted him for two years now, there are so many others left unanswered. How had she come about her titan power? Who was she working with? And just why. Even if there cannot exactly be trust between them, could there at least be a truce? Some sort of beneficial arrangement for both of them?

His time in this world had taught him that everybody who comes here becomes human. Eren hadn't been able to turn into a titan at all, which means that neither can she. And he also knows that nobody arrives in this world with their weapons still on them. So, in some ways, this situation is far less dangerous than it could be.

Not that she needs the ability to turn into a titan or any weapons to overpower and kill him if she wanted to. Few have ever been able to match Annie's hand-to-hand skills, and Armin is well aware he was not among that sparse number. But if those were her intentions, she wouldn't be walking away from him now, would she? If she had wanted to do that, she could've gone along with him just long enough to catch him off guard.

If she wanted to kill him, she had had plenty of opportunities outside of the wall.]

Annie. [He takes a step towards her, a small one, his hands held up and showing his open palms.] I just want to talk. No more lies. Lets both speak the truth for a change.

[He hesitates for a moment, then adds:]

I've never openly talked about what I [suspected] know. [A half-truth; he hasn't been open about it, but he did slip up once in front of Jean.] Nobody here knows. Your secret is still safe.

[ She wasn't a fighter. She knew how to fight, was trained as a warrior and a soldier. Annie didn't take general pleasure in violence, but she could, and did, deal it out when it was unavoidable. Eren had seen that more directly; Eren had been careless about it when he transformed, and she wondered if he ever realised that.

She shook off that thought, shoving it away as she glanced back over her shoulder, eyes finding Armin's face, expression neutral. She clings to that. It's the mask that's always worked best, even as the cracks showed in her behaviour.

He's alive, after all. That's telling enough on its own.
]

No, it isn't. It's a bargaining piece you have in your hand, and it's a threat you won't hesitate to make.

[ Not that she blames him, or the him she used to know. She sees the tactical sense, and he's ruthless enough, it seems, to use what tools he has. She's always respected that about Armin, his intelligence and problem solving, and respects it no less right now. It made the three of them, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, more formidable than any one of them might be on their own. Friends who covered each other's weak points.

But she grimaces, because even before any of them knew what Eren was, all three of them had become weak points of different kinds for her.
]

What are your truths, Armin? None of the facts, [ she stresses that word, having half turned to face him, arms at her sides, carefully held so ] I know will help you here, and from what I understand, won't help you on our world.

[ She makes a dismissive gesture with her hand, half closing her eyes as she breathes in slow, letting go of whatever's coiled tight in her chest, and breathes out slow, hand falling back to her side. ]

We're not friends. You've made it clear I'm your enemy. Why would I make sure you're better armed? What can possibly make it worthwhile for me?

[ Knowledge is a weapon, even if they're a world away from where it's applicable. ]

[Armin feel slightly off balance. It's difficult trying to guess the best course of action when Annie is clearly operating with more information than what he has. Not just related to the Titans and their attack on the wall, but even, it seems, information on what he will do in the future, how he will react. How he will confront her.

His words are slow when he speaks, with pauses as he tries to pick them with care.]

It is true that I've probably called you my enemy back in our world, though I can't remember it. The last thing I remember is returning to the Wall after our mission. [Still, even if he hasn't lived it yet, if Annie had been confirmed to be the Female Titan, she would've become an enemy of theirs. He has no reason to doubt her words.] But... this is not our world. There are no Walls here. No Titans. The reasons for the conflict between us do not exist in this world. The sides that we were once on have been erased. Is there not a chance that we could be something different in this world?

[Not friends. The trust between them has probably been damaged too badly for that. But neutral, at the very least?]

This world is strange. I've been here for two years now. We could all be here for another two years. We could be here for a decade. We might be here for the rest of our lives.

[Okay, technically Armin doesn't know of anyone who has been here for that long, but it is still theoretically possible.]

Would it not be beneficial if we could coexist peacefully while we are here? Without needing to look over our shoulders?

They make flower crowns, it makes my heart hurt.

[ Push them out before they get in. Hold no one close: there's no one to lose. No room for hesitation.

She hasn't followed her father's advice like she should, and she's seen the consequences. She's frank enough with herself to admit she'd probably change nothing, even if she'd know how things would end up. To be that person she'd been trained to be, and to learn she never could be.

Is there a reason for him to lie about the difference in points of time? No; not really. She's turning it over in her head to find what possible benefit to him there would be. She's not finding an easy answer, or even a partially obscured one.

Does he see that it takes trust to even take him at his word? He's too smart not to. That bothers her, like she's failing another test that she shouldn't be.
]

... This time difference bullshit is annoying.

[ And she's too transparent, if someone knows what they're looking for. Not in what she looks like, but in what she does, and what she says. She knows that. She can redirect, at least, knowing that. She meets his gaze, studying him for a moment, having squared off with only partial awareness of having finished turning at all. ]

Is it meant to be flattering, to think you'd be that dedicated to hunting me down? Or is the fear in the other direction, that I would find some reason to target you?

[ She cants her head to the side, mostly to shift her bangs out of her eyes. One arm settles across her stomach, hand wrapping around her elbow. Defensive and closed off, like she is usually, holding herself at a distance. ]

You say can we be something different. Like what, exactly? We're already acquaintances, we've been comrades, you say we don't need to be enemies. So what, then? Friends? Lovers?

[ There's such a dry, sardonic twist to her voice, and she opts not to look away. Hell, maybe it'll make him uncomfortable. She doesn't mind pressing a point for the moment if it gets her left alone in the long run, and what concept would be more horrifying? (She can think of a few, but no, no, her mind doesn't want to linger there.) It's not like it's a bluff he's going to call. ]

You said it yourself right now, didn't you? We could all be here for another two years, for ten, for a lifetime. Plenty of time for you to figure out what makes answering your questions worth my while, Armin. You're intelligent. Sooner or later, you'll come up with something.

[ Or he won't. No skin off her nose. ]
