[Trust him, trying to understand all this timeline and time travel nonsense has given him more than one headache. ]
When you arrive in this world, time in your own world sort of... stops. Nothing moves. And when you leave this world, you return back to the same moment you left, but you forget everything about this world. So you would go on as if nothing ever happened to you.
The years here don't exactly align with the ones back home. But... the last thing I remember from our world is facing off against the Female Titan during our expedition outside of the Wall. The one where we tried to capture her but failed.
no subject
That was a long time ago... [It wasn't an exaggeration. So much had happened since. Just the next day, and another two months after that...]
How do you know you forget? Are you saying that it doesn't matter how much I tell you now?
[She couldn't warn him. If he'd forget then it wouldn't make a difference.]
no subject
[And sure, he has his own little hypothesis that it might be possible to remember something. After all, how else could people come from other worlds where they already know about this one? Doesn't that imply that someone was able to remember something once? Still, that's a rather out-there theory of his, and not something she needs to hear right now.]
Though I wouldn't say it doesn't matter how much you tell me. I might not be able to remember it if I ever go back to our own world, but it'd still help me understand more about what you guys went through. Though Jean has already told me a lot. Unless you are even further ahead than he is, that is.
no subject
She couldn't say it wasn't possible. Even if that didn't answer why.]
Jeans here to? What did he say?
no subject
[And he was here for more than two years before that, but that is something that could be told later. It is not like the current Jean remembered any of that period anyway.]
He's been telling me about everything you guys have gone through. About Reiner and Bertolt. Historia ascending to the throne. What happened in Shiganshina [Though he left out that Armin's life had been chosen over Erwin's.] Discovering about Marley.
I always knew there was more to the Titans and the Walls than we knew but... I don't think anyone could've expected all the things he told me about.
no subject
The only people who knew, were the ones trying to hide it. [And now everyone knows. They weren't going to repeat that.]
Did he tell you about what happened in Marley? About Liberio?
no subject
[He hadn't been told about the raid on Liberio yet, mainly because Jean himself hasn't experienced it yet. In fact, Jean had mostly stayed away from the whole 'Eren turns his back on us' topic.]
no subject
[And Mikasa is going to pointedly not mention the part where Eren had forced their hand.]
no subject
[Armin's eyes go wide, surprise catching in his voice.]
Jean didn't say anything about that? What happened?
no subject
[She just sounded resigned, letting out a soft sigh.]
They were holding a festival.
no subject
Reaching out, he lightly touches the outside of her wrist.]
Please, I'd like to know it all.
[And then later he can figure out if this is something Jean kept from him, or something Jean just plain doesn't know about and needs to be informed over.]
no subject
There isn't much else to say.
[Because it might be Armin. But it's not her Armin, not the one who she helped clean up after he shot a woman. He doesn't need to know that much.]
no subject
I know you just want to protect me, but please don't lie.
[His voice is soft, understanding. There is no rebuke, just sympathy.]
You are hurting, and I want to understand why. Please don't worry about keeping me in the dark and innocent. Jean already ruined that.
Spoilers for post timeskip - this probably should have been earlier
...
[It's a waste of time not looking at him when he could do that. Not that her height let her hide much, he just had to look up really. But she still doesn't turn.]
In the building that got...Knocked down. There were children.
[It's slow and she doesn't want to say it. Even if the Armin she knew had seen worse, had done worse.]
no subject
[Children. Just like they had been children when the Wall had fallen. In war, sacrifices had to be made. He knows that. He believes in that. But still... children? What could possibly justify that sacrifice?]
What was Commander Hange thinking enacting a plan like that?
[His voice isn't angry, not yet. It's filled with disbelief if anything. Armin honestly doesn't have a lot of personal experience with Hange yet, and while he knows that they are not a strategist in the same way Erwin was one (but then, who really was? Erwin was rather unique in his skills) he would've never expected a plan like this to come from them. But perhaps there had been no other way?
Hopefully, there had been no other way.]
no subject
It wasn't... At least not by the Commander.
[Eren she wasn't so sure about, not anymore.]
Some of the others went out of their way to set civilian houses on fire.
no subject
[And part of Armin could understand why some soldiers would've felt the need to do that. Many of them had lost family members when the Wall had fallen. It would be easy for the hate that had once been present for the titans to transfer over onto Marley and then onto its citizens. So yes, Armin could understand why someone would feel an impulse like that.
But none of that justified actually acting on said impulse. Marley as a whole might have attacked Paradise, but its citizens weren't responsible for it. Especially not the children. The only thing actions like that would lead to would be another cycle of hatred.]

Now our only option is to fight.
[If they'd had any option before, it was long gone now. ]
