Connie Maheswaran | Steven Universe: the Movie

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-11-27 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Video
[The video centers on Connie in her tent. Rain pelts against the canvas, and the sound is almost soothing despite the severity of the storm. In the background, a Ralts wielding a stick "spars" with a Honedge, while a Litleo bats at the Honedge's sash.]

This is kind of an odd request, but does anybody have comprehensive knowledge of every Pokemon move and ability? I've been studying hard for my Gym trials, and in my experience it pays to know exactly what you should expect before you walk into a battle. That split second between the enemy trainer calling out the move and the Pokemon performing it could mean victory if you know what's going to happen! Listening to the chattering of wild Pokemon isn't conducive to learning the names of the attacks that come flying at you in a battle, aaand the 'dex isn't being particularly helpful in that regard either.

Anyways, my point is that I'd really appreciate it if somebody could quiz me on this stuff. Just toss the move names at me and gauge my response time. And if I'm correct or not, obviously.

Urgent question. Is that blurb in the 'dex about Honedges draining life force with their sashes true? And, if so, will cutting away the fabric hurt them?

I'm asking for my Litleo.

Action
[Despite the roar of the pounding rain, Connie sits on a boulder beside Route 34, spraying her Pokemon with Potions. She's clearly been at this for a while: her pants and shoes are splattered with mud, her entire outfit is absolutely soaked, and her usually-neat hair has come undone from its bob. Still, though, she's not quite willing to turn in yet.

Connie has a Gym Challenge to train for, after all! With her current lineup, she'll be obliterated by both Falkner and Brock. And it would be so embarrassing to lose to those guys, of all people. She needs to find a Pokemon someone would be willing to trade for something more equipped to deal with Rock, Ground, Flying, Dark, and Normal types, cash to buy TMs and stones for her Ralts when it evolves into a Kirlia, more supplies, and food she is unbelievably hungry, and...

Her eyes widen when somebody with Pokeballs on their hip passes by. Oh, no. Connie needs to battle to train her Pokemon and get cash, but she's not finished with recovering from her last fight yet and-]

Gah! Hold on for just a sec and let me finish up here. It's been, uh. It's been a rough day. [Connie scrambles to finish treating the tatters in her Honedge's sash and the scratches and bruises on her Litleo and Ralts. She yawns, fighting off exhaustion.]

Uhhhhh...Can't confirm the draining part...

But how is your litleo holding a sword..?

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-11-28 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nemean likes playing with Chandrahas's sash. Normally it's all fun and games, but he accidentally batted the hilt with his paw aaaand he's all tied up now.
insidescoop: (MMMMMM...)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-11-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! I mean...if they were letting them it's probably safe right??

Even a pokemon's gotta know if they're dangerous for others...

So my flesh slowly necrotizing is probably a trick of the light. Got it.
insidescoop: (GIMME A SEC I SWEAR)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-11-29 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I DON'T THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THE POKEMON IS SUPPOSED TO DO

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-11-29 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, Grace and Star put it to sleep. This is fine! Now I just need to skip my arm out of the ribbon and everything will be fine, right?
insidescoop: (BWAUUUHHHHHHH)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-11-29 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
GET YOUR ARM OUT NOW MAYBE???

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-11-29 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that worked!

Now I’m going to huddle in the corner of my tent contemplating how I nearly got all my life force sucked out and wondering how you people live with these things all over the place
insidescoop: (MMMMMM...)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-11-29 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[why are you this way,]

I mean I guess it's sorta like how some people live where there's bears? It's probably like that...

I've actually never run into one of those honestly, I only saw one hatch once.
conniemaheswaran: (Worried)

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-11-29 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, considering what home was like, I shouldn’t surprised.

But the fact that possessed swords can breed and lay eggs is nevertheless startling.
insidescoop: (Bwueh?)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-12-02 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I mean I kinda gave up on logic right out with how I woke up here.
conniemaheswaran: (Looking)

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-12-03 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
But everything has some kind of logic. Even crazy things! If you look hard enough, you can find some sort of unifying principle behind ridiculous stuff like, say, haunted swords that are somehow still able to make babies with one another.

The real question is whether you can figure it out before you go crazy...
insidescoop: (Bwueh?)

[personal profile] insidescoop 2019-12-03 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know I feel like just not pushing too hard into finding the logic helps on not going crazy.

Just a thought.
conniemaheswaran: (Worried)

Yeeeeah. I know that from experience, at least.

[personal profile] islandshore 2019-12-04 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Riku grins. He likes this one's enthusiasm. The willingness to learn all there is to know.

This'll be fun.]

True or false: ice types resist water.

[Simple start. A warm up, really.]
conniemaheswaran: (I got this)

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-12-04 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Connie crosses her arms, smirking.]

False! The only thing ice-types resist is themselves, and they're vulnerable to some of the hardest-hitting types too—Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel.

Give me something harder.
islandshore: (cocky)

[personal profile] islandshore 2019-12-04 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Gold star, kid. You're already on the right track.

[Riku chuckles. Definitely a strong first impression. But hmm, harder...

Let's see.]

Say you've been hit by a ton of Mud Slaps from Falkner's flying types and your accuracy's at an all time low. What's a move that never fails?
conniemaheswaran: (Worried)

[personal profile] conniemaheswaran 2019-12-04 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Connie furrows her brow, cupping her chin with her hand. She thinks for a few moments, eyes darting back and forth.]

Hm... the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Swift. I have a Magnemite in a ball - it didn't seem smart to keep a Steel and Electric Pokemon without a sheath out in a thunderstorm - but I'm not actually sure if it can learn Swift. Reports on that conflict. Maybe I could get a TM, but those are really expensive for the money I make battling right now...
