Right. Just... don't talk to anyone, okay? The last thing we need is you looking at someone sideways and upsetting the locals.
[He ends the video call abruptly, switching over to another window. A few taps and he has himself a ride to New Bark Town. It'll be a few hours before he gets there, he'll just have to hope Felix doesn't cause too much trouble while they're separated.
... The reversal was almost funny.
He pulls the device back out and taps Felix's name. After snapping a quick picture of himself in the little cart, he sends it off.]
I will be there in a few hours. Bet you miss me already.

[Then suddenly, Sylvain is just...gone. Felix almost worries, but then he notices that the other man's name is now listed there in the device. Huh. He supposes he'll have to get the hang of this thing, much as it sounds tedious and he doesn't want to.
He and the Purrloin stare at each other over the now-inert device. Felix refuses to blink first--he has to establish dominance in this relationship. Show the cat he won't put up with all this nonsense. When the animal--he? no, she--when she glances away, pretending not to have noticed any kind of competition at all, he smirks.]
Good. Now come on, we'll find the way out of this place and wait for Sylvain on the road.
[The device pings after a minute or two, and he narrows his eyes at it. What now?...it's showing a picture of Sylvain, and a message. How did he do that? This kind of thing has never been Felix's forte, but remembering Annette's tutoring and how meticulous and careful she was, he muddles through until he figures out how to send a message back, with a small smile.]
You wish. Hurry up.
[When Sylvain makes his way into town, Felix and the Purrloin--he really ought to name her, he thinks, but he has no ideas yet--are waiting at the side of the main road; Felix is busy jabbing at the device, trying to get it to cooperate, and making a frustrated face at it.]

[It doesn't take horribly long for Sylvain to get there -- though certainly enough to bore him to tears. It also eats into his carefully amassed funds, though he can work that debt off soon enough, he'd like to think. Even if it did take awhile, if anyone is worth the expenditure, it's Felix.
The second the bird sets down, Sylvain is jumping off. He hands off a few extra bills to the birdmaster, before jogging off toward the edge of town.
The moment Felix comes into sight, Sylvain lets out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. He'd told himself that it had only been a few weeks, but after years of war and close to decades of friendship, that was plenty of time for anything to happen.
Knowing that Felix wouldn't let him live down a stupid grin, he manages to keep his smile to a mere quirk of the lips. Nevertheless, it becomes a more toothy smile by the time he draws even with Felix.
He can't help himself, it seems.]
You know, I would say that if you kept scowling like that, your face might get stuck but... [And there's that wide, beaming grin.] I think that might have already happened.

He looks up at the approaching footsteps, his own lips curving slightly upward and a bit of tension going out of his shoulders when he spots Sylvain.]
Better that than grinning like an idiot all the time. Which one is this, the 'I've done something stupid and I don't want Felix to know about it' grin?
[The alternative is that it's an 'I'm genuinely really happy to see you' grin, and Felix isn't sure what to...do, with a thought like that.]
no subject
Though, personally I think it's a bit closer to the 'I haven't seen my best friend in weeks' look, myself.
no subject
Weeks? What are you talking about, Sylvain? We were just in Fhirdiad together last night.
no subject
Not by my count. I got here... must have been middle of the last moon. I haven't been in Fhirdiad since --
[That's when finally processes Felix's words. Fhirdiad. The last he had heard, the capitol was still deep within Cornelia's clutches. Gautier and Fraldarius were doing their best to put up a united front within their own territories, but they were losing ground.
Briefly, he thinks of Claude, of the apparent alliance they'd formed against the Empire. It wasn't the first time things had seemed so different.]
-- Years, Felix. [His voice is a touch quieter, a little slower. The smile is almost gone.] I haven't seen Fhirdiad in years.
no subject
...Sylvain...that makes no sense. We just liberated the city yesterday. You were obviously there. How could it have been years?
no subject
It stung.
When he finally lifts his gaze, he does so with a forced smile. He knows full well that it doesn't reach his eyes.]
You are not the first person to tell me I have no idea what's going on. Just like old times, right?
no subject
No, it's not. [That false smile...Felix hates it. Has always hated it.] And if anyone has no idea what's going on, it's me. We already established that. This is just one more in a heap of things that don't make any sense. So wipe that stupid fake grin off your face so we can figure out what to do about it.
no subject
So he swallows it down, same as he had every other mess in his life.]
I hate to break it to you, but there really isn't anything to do about it. [He looks down to the ground, toeing it deliberately with his boot.] If there was a feasible way back, I would have heard about it by now.
[He shrugs once.]
Best thing I can recommend is following me back. Kind of a long walk, like stupid long, I mean. But -- [He pauses a moment, brow furrowing. In this distant future, where Fhirdiad was liberated, did Felix still loathe their prince?]
Dimitri and Claude will be there. Feels like it might be better to remain as a group, right?
no subject
Then why did you come all the way here? I told you I should have come to you. [A pause, and Felix's expression turns wary.] Wait. If you don't remember anything about liberating Fhirdiad, does that mean Dimitri doesn't either? What does he remember, exactly?
no subject
I couldn't tell you what he does and does not remember. [It had quickly been made obvious that it wasn't going to be an easy conversation. Not considering Dimitri's obsession.]
He believes we are all dead. Not sure how that would be possible considering all of the scattered memories we seem to have between us.
no subject
[He shakes his head, putting Dimitri out of his mind. What's important for now is that Sylvain is here.] Whatever. Let's get going. You can tell me about this sword creature you said you found. And help me figure out a name for this gremlin. [He picks up the cat and looks her in the eye.] This is Sylvain. Behave yourself and don't steal his things. Unless he starts acting like a fool, then be my guest.
[He smirks at Sylvain and lets the cat climb up to ride on his shoulder.] Did you end up with a weird pet, too?
no subject
Now wait just a moment. I have never acted a fool in my entire life. [He turns the charm in his smile up to eleven, focusing entirely on the cat.] But I do know the perfect man for you to steal from.
[Payback for the stolen blankets. Sorry Claude.
Of course, the smile doesn't quite last forever. it's replaced soon enough by (an admittedly still amused) grimace at the mention of their pets.]
A fish. Can you believe it? And not just any fish -- a lazy fish that can only splash around. [he shakes his head, exasperation clear>.] Someone called it a Feebas. They said I would be surprised once it evolved, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to pull that off. I had to get help catching the Sword.
[With that reminder, Sylvain reaches into the bag hanging loosely off his shoulder. He pulls out a ball and casts it outward, revealing said Sword creature.]
Pretty interesting, right? Just do not try to grab its hilt. I read that bad things happen when you do that.
