What, seriously? That sounds so... lame.

[Riz doesn't even have magic, has never really had any ambitions towards it, but it's still such a fundamental part of existence to him that imagining a world without it is just... it feels empty and dull. Even this world has magic, even if people seem to be in denial about it. Riz only has to look at the pokemon and the dozens of identical nurses and cops to know it does.]

Half a year?
And you haven't found a way out yet?

Now his initial reaction made sense. He thought she was dead! Of course he would be upset over that.

"This isn't the Farplane. I'm not dead, I promise. I'm very certain. But I understand why you would think that! Thank you for your concern."

Her Jangmo-o began to playfully raise up on its hind legs and swat at the Honedge's blue sash while Yuna took a moment to calm down.

"I think... This is some kind of different world. It might be a dream. I don't exactly know what that's like," as she only had secondhand accounts from Tidus to go on, "but it could be possible. What do you think? You existed in the dream of Zanarkand for awhile, right?"

I just realized they both went to adventuring schools

Not yet. Not only that, but my dad (who is an experienced planeswalker) hasn't made his way here to come find me, which he absolutely would have done if there was a way to do it.

We're not trapped indefinitely, though. People do leave here, presumably to go back to their home planes, it's just that... We don't get any say in how or when that happens.

So there is no actual evidence that the people who disappear here go back to their own planes?
What is the average length of stay in this place?
And what about who is responsible for bringing us here?
What is known about that?

Not exactly... But there was one time where my friend went into a sort of coma for a week, and when he woke up, he remembered things from Nua that he hadn't known about before. So... it's like maybe his consciousness went back home, even though his body stayed here?

Some people have been here for years. I'm not sure what the average stay would be, there's a lot of us planeswalkers here, and we're pretty spread out across two continents. As for who (or what) is responsible for bringing us all here, leading theory I think is this Legendary Pokemon named Arceus? "Legendaries" are this plane's equivalent of gods, basically. But they're not exactly in contact with each other, so don't go trying to send Arceus a message through another Legendary. I already tried that.

you'll have to ask the nurse about your Pokémon specifically. each kind is capable of eating different things. there is a horse that eats dirt and others absorb electricity, so it's hard to tell what "human" substances could be hurtful or not by "don't feed this to the dog" standards.

Are there no normal, non-identical healers in this place?

there are, but they are private practices. Pokécenters are free. they aren't so bad if you think of them as infinite twins.

[And the first step to that is not a step at all, but making sure her little Sprtizee is nice and comfy in her arms. Certainly she's been quite the cozy companion for an adventure like this.]

[Oh, right, and she should probably remember to start pointing her flashlight around too. That would help as she starts to look around.]

I wonder how deep this cave goes... Do you think there are 666 levels to it? I would have packed more, if I'd known that!

[Riz is actually stunned into textual silence for a moment. That sort of thinking is... just no???]

Pretending the dangerous thing is not a dangerous thing doesn't actually stop it from being dangerous.
It just makes it more dangerous.

[Dragons don't stop eating your dad and trying to take over the world and severely ruining prom just because you pretend they are big lizards. Infinite mirror image nurses don't stop smell like the most obvious trap just because you pretend they are twins.]

[ We're going to say this is Goldenrod, because if Fabian is here he's definitely been brought in as a Rocket. And while Riz's dress might seem familiar, he doesn't look the same.

Of course, Fabian looks exactly the same minus what he's dressed in because half-elves only get the ears outwardly and that is not offensive to this world. But really, his gush of a proper accent and his demeanor is more than enough. ]

Perhaps they don't sell caffeine to children - get over it and order a tea-based cortado.

While he's debating, I'll have vanilla bean frappe with whip... and a pup cup. Thank you.

[ Behind Fabian sits a dutiful Houndour and a bored Baile Oricorio. ]

[Riz definitely does not look the same, which is... still pretty damn weird? Each time he catches sight of his reflection (not that he tries to look much as reflective surfaces these days) it takes him a good moment to remember that the weird, pasty-pink, short-eared and flat-teethed thing in the mirror is supposed to be him.

He grew a little, coming here, but that is really not worth all this weirdness.

At the words coming from behind him, he spins on his heel, ready to let this stranger know how he is sixteen, thank you very much, and this world just has it out for short people, and anyway, he's been drinking coffee since the very normal age of five so everybody should just lay off already and let him have his goddamn coffee, but the words die on his tongue when the guy's appearance clicks with the accent, and instead, he just ends up pointing and staring wide-eyed up at him.]

F-Fabian?

[ The presumptuous teen is taken aback after his name is reckoned, blinking back from his imperious command for frappe. His order is out there and is being processed, but Fabian's eyes narrow down on this pink creature. The way his name was said, this person obviously knows him... it even seems incredibly familiar. ]

Ri-

I mean. [ He crosses his arms. ] What's your name? So many people around here know mine, you have to be new...

[ Fabian is gesturing and posing as awkwardly as usual for a scene he is totally not comfortable in. ]

[Riz knows Fabian doesn't have the best insight, and again, he also looks completely unlike himself, but even with all these very logical reasons why Fabian wouldn't recognise him, it does twist in his chest a bit.]

Come on, we're best friends.

[And then, with a small huff, he reaches for his dumb, flat ears, pulling them outwards as much as he can.]

Picture these but much bigger. And also, I'm green instead of pink and not this tall. And my teeth are properly badass instead of whatever this is.

[Come on, Fabian. How many people do you know that could honestly call four-and-a-half feet tall?]

[ We're best friends. Fabian casts such a dubious look behind him his Oricorio fluffs up like a bouncer, though his Houndour is notably dozing.

Fabian watches this display and gives a mild gesture to let his Oricorio know to not to dunk on this dude despite some odd things. A part of him already knows what to expect, but... this is so weird. He actually feels a bit wrong the moment after he's sure this is Riz. It's always felt fine calling the goblin The Ball, but it was something else watching him perform being a friend as a pink little humanoid. ]

OKAY! YO! [ Rounding on the barista to channel his excitement. His friend is here! ]

YOU BETTER GIVE ME A GRANDE PUMPKIN SPICE! TWO GRANDE PUMPKIN SPICE!

[ Tis the season for his mom sending him out for coffee... ]

[When Riz sees it click in Fabian's head, he lets go of his ears, breaking out into the slightly dopey, crooked grin that Fabian must have seen thousands of times on the goblin's face already. Just with fewer pointy teeth this time.]

It's great to see you. When did you get here? How did you get here? You guys were still in Hell last I remembered. Did you take a hijacked portal too? Where are the others anyway? Have you seen any of them?

Oh no, the Honedge isn't sure if it likes this! It bobs erratically behind Auron, but the Jangmo-o is gentle, and after a few moments, the Honedge settles down. It even starts twitching its sash so the other Pokemon has something to bat at.

Auron calms down right along with his Pokemon. Yuna isn't dead, and if she's sure about that, he'll take her at her word. Dying isn't exactly something you forget, and he has first hand experience in that.

"It could be." The dream of Zanarkand analogy is apt, and Auron nods. "Although I don't know what kind of world would make a dream like this."

It's peaceful, Yuna! Weirdly so!

It's not a matter of protection.
There's some fights you don't walk into until you know exactly what you are dealing with.
Because if you don't, the people around you are going to die.
And anyway, coffee has never killed anyone before.

[Slightly hypocritical, because the Bad Kids had definitely rushed into fights foolheartedly before, but that was all of them together. And even then, some of them had died.

Right now it was just Riz and he had neither his arquebus or his sword of shadows, and seriously, Rogues? Not a good 1V1 class.]

I don't know if they're still in Hell or if they managed to make it back to Arborly, but either way, I can't just abandon them for years and then just show up and be like, hey, sorry I got stuck on some magic-less plane for a couple of years, super didn't mean to, anyway did you finish our spring break project?

The only one who knew the things he saw while he was conked out is me, and I couldn't have hit him with a memory spell without my magic, even if I did know any memory spells.

Look, I'm sorry. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I would love to tell you, "Oh, don't worry, there's a way to send your friends an interplanar message, to let them know you'll be a while but you're alright," but... There really isn't.
