[It's a beautiful day. The Wingulls are calling, the wind is fair, and the ocean looks fairly calm. So, you know, that's clearly the best time for a man with a pink plastic bucket to hike down the beach, in boots. Boots, a button-down shirt, and... so many tattoos.]

[He makes a beeline for one of the tidepools on the shoreline, crouching down to ease the bucket's contents into the pool. Revealing a little Horsea, who looks around excitedly. Oh! The ocean! Wow!]

There now. Surely that's better than floating about in a bucket.

[Okay, this guy sounds vaguely like an old-timey pirate. Or, he would, if he weren't speaking so gently to the pokemon. The Horsea trills, splashing in the tidepool. It's obviously happy to be there, but when the man nods, turning on a heel, the delighted trilling turns to frightened squeaks. He stops in his tracks, turning back to the pool, expression creased in concern.]

What is it? You can't... [But the pokemon is trying to flounder its way onto the sand. So the man sighs. And takes a seat on a rock beside the pool.] You belong to the sea, little one.

Then again... 'spose I'm the same, eh? Stuck ashore and without a bucket of my own.

[Horsea, mollified for now, decides a nice hearty Splash will be helpful. Regardless of anyone passing by. Oops.]

[Yeah, he still sounds like a pirate. And the face on the screen is literally covered in tattoos. Lines, whorls, dots. They're just not on his eyelids. Somehow. He's even got an ear piercing.]

I've been told this is the way to send a message on this island. I'm looking for whoever can point me at a port - seems I've lost my way.

If any of my brothers or sisters be hearing this, Captain Vasco, requesting passage on your vessel.

[It'd sound really official and important if there weren't a Horsea squeaking in the background.]

[Auron's Honedge--Masamune, as it has decided it is called and is refusing to answer to anything but--was floating merrily down the beach, with Auron trailing after it, when it got splashed! Splashed! It squeaks with dismay and ducks behind Auron.]

You're fine.

[It doesn't hurt to have a bulky guy in a red coat between it and the offending Horsea, Masamune decides. It peeks out above Auron's shoulder and shakes its wet sash in indignation. Splashed! Can you imagine!]

[Auron takes in the other man, and if he's shocked by all the tattoos or the boots on the beach, it doesn't show at all on his face. Hey, he's wearing boots too, and a long coat. it's fashion, baby]

Is that a water Pokemon?

[That is an admirable coat. Coming from a guy whose culture is really into the whole long coat look? A very nice one. This man would get on well with the Nauts' sense of fashion.]

[But enough about coats.]

Seems like. [He straightens up, dusting himself off. The Horsea meanwhile squeaks out an apology to the Honedge. Sorry, she was just playing...] Since I've never seen a sword dance about on its own, I'm going to assume that's another one of these... creatures?

[Masamune the Honedge gives the Horsea a very firm stink eye, but now that he knows she was playing, he's less offended. He shakes his sash off, splattering Auron with water, and floats down to her. Apology accepted, and maybe they can play something else now? Something a bit less... wet?]

It is.

[Auron's voice warms just the faintest amount as he watches the two Pokemon interact.]

It's called a Honedge. But this one thinks his name is Masamune.

[He bends down to get a better look at the Horsea.]

Interesting. It's like a horse and a fish combined.

Well, pleasure to meet you, Masamune.

[He inclines his head, politely. It's not quite a tilt of his hat, but it's close. Horsea trills, fluttering her little fins. But there doesn't seem to be anything non-wet around... unless Masamune wants to throw rocks around?]

A seahorse. [In response to Auron's study of the water pokemon.] Bit of a joke, seems to me. [A joke which only the traveling party would have gotten, honestly, so, he elaborates.] My ship was called The Sea-Horse, last it was under my command.

[Masamune would be delighted to knock some rocks around! He demonstrates by chucking one right into the ocean. Take that, water!]

Ah. So you were a sea-farer.

[Auron's impressed! Only the very bravest people in Spira move on the seas! He himself is still a bit apprehensive of it, even though he knows Sin doesn't exist in this world. Bad things come out of the water, and he never learned how to swim.]
