Wang Baixi | DC Comics

Action - Cherrygrove
[ Wang Baixi has wound up in some far-flung places, in unexpected circumstances, more times than he would like to count. But never has he been anywhere this far-flung or unexpected. He woke up three days ago in a house he didn't recognize, where a woman he also didn't recognized claimed to be his mother shoved a backpack into his hands and unceremoniously ushered him out the door. Nothing in the pack was familiar... So he's had to make do. Without any of his gear, his tech, his links to his teammates back in China, he isn't entirely sure how he's going to get home. So, instead he chooses to focus on just getting by.

He takes the road to the nearest city by himself, not trusting the unfamiliar red and white ball in his pack enough to try opening it. He notices right away that the animals here aren't... right. There was a man with a giant purple rat who said he wanted to battle— which Baixi might have been down for, if it didn't seem like he wanted his rat to do the fighting!

He walks all day, and at night he does his best to get himself up to speed on this locale, using his Gear to research whatever information he can find. So, the strange animals are called Pokemon, and people here keep them as companions or trained fighting animals for some kind of sick bloodsport. Dog fighting is legal in China, so such a concept isn't unheard of, though Baixi does think it's somewhat distateful. Still, that seems to be the primary way to earn money around here, which Baixi is going to need if he's going to find himself food and shelter. Looks like he'll have to get himself one of these Pokemon and start training it to fight. ]

Excuse me, do you have a second to answer some questions from a new transplant?

[ (Little does he know, there's a Snivy inside that Pokeball in his bag, just waiting to come out.) ]

Who or what makes the decisions of which Pokemon we transplants start with?
Their sense of humor is not appreciated.

if I must take a guess, the same who or what that brought us here, and they stay unknown. but I didn't know what you expected from a being/thing that transplants people across realms without consent. not exactly the paragon of sense of humor.

From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are hundreds of these things, even before you factor in the different evolutionary forms (the misuse of the term "evolution" here is a rant for another time). Out of all the possible options of what I could have started with, this mysterious who or what chose to give me one that closely resembles my [ girlfriend ] teammate.

All I'm saying is, the implication that they know personal details of me and the people I associate with is not one I like thinking about.

that sounds about right, I got one shaped after my preferred weapon. it seems all of us get a start chosen accordingly to our personal taste. mind-reading is the smallest implication to worry about, though, some people have lost their powers or got their whole body changed from non-human to human.

at least you won't get anyone peeking around your mind on your actual travels, unless you count the Pokémon. as far as I know, all this invasive stuff only happens when we're brought over.

[ Wow, that's... incredibly concerning. So even if Deilan were here in person, she wouldn't be Green Snake anymore? ]

If that's the case, those who are already nonpowered humans to begin with should count themselves lucky, I suppose.

[ Neither confirming nor denying whether that applies to him. ]

That's small comfort, though the fact that I've been unwillingly conscripted into traveling this unfamiliar world alongside my too-aptly-chosen companion in the first place sort of sours that a bit.

[Since he doesn't comment on his own situation, she decides to apply that to herself as well - the guy must have a reason to talk about the subject like that and she isn't going to misstep into the topic.]

very lucky indeed.

trust me, most of us otherworlders don't appreciate getting kidnapped. but many of the people that have been here for a while speak highly of this world's utopic nature, and refuse to return to their own realms. I must admit, I see the appeal. if my brother was here with me, I think I would agree.

Maybe I'm just a cynic, or maybe the state of my world has made me this way, but I have a hard time trusting anything that claims to be a utopia.

And even if the claims are true, I have too many people relying on me in my world to abandon them just because this world is better or more peaceful.

[personal profile] atu327a 2021-10-10 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you for such thoughts, but there are some otherworlders that have been here for a decade. if there is something fishy going on, it's hidden in the best secret spot I've ever witnessed

thinking about those left at home, though, that I can agree with. and it's the only reason why my "seeing the appeal" was hypothetical. I've heard our worlds aren't aware of us missing, but it's hard to find comfort in the situation anyway.

[Keith was using a small grassy area to train Litten. The small black and red cat-like creature seemed quite happy to keep using Tackle on his trainer, knocking Keith over a few times. However, Keith had recently learned that Littens had fire abilities, so he was trying to get him to learn something that could use fire. Someone had told him that, if he didn't have the money to buy one of those "machine" disks, then the Litten might learn a move by leveling up.

That was what he was trying to do now. At the sound of someone approaching, though, he looked up after catching Litten's latest Tackle move in his arms.]

Uh... I'm kinda new myself, but I'll answer what I can?

[Keith gave him a somewhat confused look. He wasn't used to people asking him questions about things. But, then again, he didn't exactly have a reputation here like he did back home...]
