[ It's raining, and someone's had to scramble for shelter. The tree's not perfect, so the tall teen is still soaked to the bone and grouchy. His partner is a small Goomy in the nearby grass off to the side, and she's loving it. All that vibrating might become a Rain Dance someday. ]

[ Yet he keeps turning back to watch the Goomy 'sing' and play. He's not sure why he turned the Gear on, or who he's even talking to. ]

Don't tell me it gets worse. Or...you know, what, do. We need to be prepared.

[ The problem, you ask? He's been in this cave and divebombed by Zubats for nearly a week. Allegedly he should be coming upon the light at the end of the tunnel any day now...but there are no shops to buy supplies, bartering with trainers after a battle hasn't worked too well, and he's steadily losing energy.

He's just going to curl up next to this boulder with Jet spreading her trail of slime beside him, attempting to recharge enough for one last push.

...there's a sudden rumble behind them as the boulder they're leaning on suddenly moves, and he finds himself scrambling to grab Jet and move out of the way. She makes a distressed cry, and he's now covered in slime, but that's how these things go. He sighs wearily at her. ]

Once we're out of here, we have a lot of prep work to do. We'll stay near the next center and train until we can crush our enemies.

[ Jet makes a mournful noise, and Kaiba passes a berry to her in an attempt to reassure. They're running low on those too, but they need to scrape up some strength here. ]

[Oh, this is absolutely hilarious. Thinks the woman sitting on a beach with a shiny salamence head in her lap. Who's filming this when it's clearly not her? Don't ask.]

It always kind of fucking blows at first. But, like, if you can figure out temporary shelter and get to real civilization, it kinda gets better.

But the first real "city" is like a week or so travel, so good fuuuuucking luck if it keeps raining.

[ But it will be soon. Kaiba looks positively miserable, his frown only briefly lifting as Jet trills happily, dancing behind him and leaving her trail of sludge ]

She moves faster in the rain. I should be taking advantage.

[ There's a pile of fallen branches behind him and some leaves...someone's trying to build some kind of DIY rain shield, but it's much more difficult when everything is drenched. ]

Lucky you. I got dumped here in the middle of fucking winter and the winter here doesn't play. [Is she still salty about it? Absolutely. Though she is ignoring him for a moment to see about getting a look at the goomy in the background. That's... not a pokemon she tends to see that often.]

Probably not a bad idea. Though I recommend you find something you can ride at some point, if you can, really shaves down the time. Though I think the first gym coming up is... the one with the birds and if you can get something that learns fly naturally, that'll be a huge help in travelling, too.

[How tiny birds can do it, too, she's still unsure. But it worked out at the end.]

... Also take a look at the Pokemarts and see if they got tents, might be better than trying to make a shelter if you ain't used to it. Hell, I can probably see if it's possible to get out that way myself and pass off the tent I was given since I don't really travel rough much anymore.

If we strategize effectively, we should be able to afford a tent by the time we hit the next town. Just a slog until then. How long did it take you to settle?

[Jesus, that is a poor tiny bird. Though, to be fair, she remembers her talonflame was an itty bitty thing for a while.]

Yeah. Yeaaaaaah. Though you'd be surprised at how tough these little birds can be, until I got Tear here, my largest fliers were... smaller than me. [Even then, Tear's more length than she is height, but absolutely more effective for carrying someone.]

UHHHH. Dude, honestly, I was pretty golden once I got to the big city since that's the kind of shit I'm more used to. Gyms bring in a fuckton of cash if you do 'em right and travel light. But I also ended up travelling with my now wife for... a chunk of it. You can pretty much speedrun the gyms if you're gonna be like that and then get to the champions fuckshits which is where the real cash is.

[She motions and the camera shifts a bit to show a... that's a lotad as a houseboat, sure.]

It ain't hard to make your home in this place if you know what to do and we sure ain't hurting for money anymore and I mostly just do my own thing at this point.

But seriously, despite that, this place is pretty okay given the free healthcare thing. And the not dying thing. But seriously, most people are pretty friendly if you wanna ask questions or some shit. Hell, I did that whole gym and travelling thing so I've been there done that.

Welcome to this shithole and how it operates, yeah. Only things that fight are the creatures themselves and even then they just... faint when they lose. No death. Shit's weird. [Says the person who did not explore the Pokemon tower shit at all.]

Yeah? Other than the criminal organization, who's a total joke, running around, it's pretty peaceful and people are pretty chill and nice to each other.

I'm not sure if it gets worse, but I think it's supposed to get easier? At least, the Centers have warps between cities so you don't have to walk everywhere as much.
