Yeah. It makes the species name fit perfectly too. I haven't met an Eevee who doesn't love life. They're so happy and cute.

So perhaps that led to their species name- or perhaps that's simply coincidence. [He chuckles.] She certainly exemplifies that! I take it you've met many others?

[crystalmaster]

I think it refers to their unique evolution abilities, actually! But I like my explanation too.

[He smiles.]

Yeah, I have several. I'm breeding them.

Oh- is that so? Would you mind telling me a little more about that?

I see! Then you've no small amount of expertise with them, yes? Do you show them?

[crystalmaster]

So far, there are eight known forms they can evolve into! None of the other Pokemon have so many. They say the genes are especially unstable and that's why. I have no idea how they'd get so unstable in the first place, though.

[He looks thoughtful.]

I've wondered if there's something like Pokemon Shows like we have dog and cat shows back home. The closest thing here might be Contests, where they actually perform onstage and are graded on it. I went to one for all of us displaced people when I first got here, but I only realized recently from my research that it's actually a possible career path to take. I've considered trying them, but I haven't got that far yet.

That seems a considerable number. Their genes…? [Something to look into, it sounds like.] Indeed- it's a very deep part of them, isn't it?

That sounds very enjoyable. HOw would you enter one, were you to go along that path?

[crystalmaster]

It sure is. And yet even with that, some of them manage to refuse to evolve.

[He pauses, thinking.]

I think you can just sign up if one's around. I'm not sure if they're really big in Johto. Mostly I hear about the standard gym battles.

That's something they can do? Well- far be it from me to decry someone deciding that's the best choice for them.

[He nods.]

So simple enough to enter… But they haven't caught on on this continent? What have you heard about those?

[crystalmaster]

I'm still confused by it, but it sure seems so.

For all I know, maybe it's a thing here too, and it's just overshadowed by the gym battles. Maybe I'll try looking into it more if I start thinking more seriously about it as a career path. I'm really proud of all my Pokemon and I'd love to show them off. I know at least some of them would have fun with it.

The gym battles ... that's basically just challenging gym leaders with your Pokemon and trying to beat them to earn gym badges. If you beat everybody, it gives you kind of a status. I'm just not into battling, so I don't think I'd enjoy that path.

It could be- it sounds as though there ought to be some manner of community for it. Perhaps it's not quite as formalised here- I imagine there would be others who'd enjoy that just as much.

So a contest of how well you and your team work together? That's well enough- if everyone did, I imagine there'd be all manner of trouble. Do you know what that status confers- entrance to restaurants, and the like, mayhap?

Yeah. I think I will try to find out more.

It definitely brings a celebrity status, so easier access to restaurants is probably part of it.

[He nods.] So it's that sort of influence… Quite useful in its way, I imagine. Thank you.

Yeah, I'll probably have to do something similar for my restaurant. I can't deny I'd enjoy the celebrity status in some ways, but I'm happy being a Breeder.

Which sounds perfectly well itself.

Perhaps someone with that sort of status visiting would help to promote it. Do you know anyone who has?

It's fun. Sometimes overwhelming, but fun.

Yeah, I'd hope they would.

[He pauses, thinking.]

You know, I'm not sure I know who has. There's probably some of us who have, but I haven't heard about which ones they are.

The younglings give you a run for your money, do they? It's good that you enjoy it.

[Thancred hums, thoughtful.]

It might reach the news at some point, I should think… I wonder. How many of us do you think have arrived here?

[crystalmaster]

It is, isn't it.

[Radley chuckles.]

Yeah, I'm sure it has. Maybe no one's succeeded in a while. It's hard to keep track of how many are here, especially since some get sent home and others come. I think there might be several dozen or more, usually. Maybe less. I have no idea how many have come altogether through the years.
