[Oh jeez. This poor guy is being over run by friendly insects. That's never a good thing. Marik's video starts and he offers a sympathetic but amused smile as a Yamask peers over his shoulder.]

They take some getting used to, that's for sure! Do you have any food on you? Try throwing some away from yourself and it should distract them!

["Wobbuffet," says his Pokemon, and holds out some berries.]

Yeah, great, try that, blue blob thing!

[Wobbuffet scowls, but tosses the berries at the Weedles. Some start to eat, so Snakes runs through an opening. Wobbuffet hurries after him. When he's safely behind a tree, he sighs in relief.]

Hey, thanks. You deal with things like that a lot?

[His hat is askew and his blond hair is hanging over his right eye. A raised scar in the shape of an S is on his left cheek.]

Sorry. Sometimes the pokémon can just smell what you have on you. Although I've never seen them swarm quite like that...

[Marik chuckles to himself and waits for Snakes to be in a safer location before he says anything.

His scar doesn't even get a raised eyebrow though. The boy has seen and endured some himself so it's nothing new.]

No prob. And... Mn. Not usually. I've just been here for a couple of months so I'm familiar with the behavior.

Your... uh... blue blob is a Wobbuffet. Unless that's what you named it.

Well, now, ain't that just about my luck. Great. They'll probably be doing this all the way to town. Aren't there trains or stages anywhere around here?! With devices like this, you'd think the people could afford some high-falutin' ways of travel, none of this camping out stuff.

[He looks like a riverboat gambler who is probably used to the good life in his time.

He looks to the Pokemon.]

Wobbuffet, huh? So that's why he keeps sayin' that? Heh, that's like if you named a cat Meow or a dog Bark.

I believe there's trains but they have very limited routes. From what I've heard, pokémon and trainer safety are a top priority so that's why they're aren't any vehicles. They do sell bikes and some pokémon can fly you around.

[He's from a crazy universe with themed duelists and the like. Marik does wonder what era he's from though. The guy screams old American Western movie.

He snickers at Snakes logic. He certainly isn't wrong...!]

Some say their names, other make more animalistic noises. I'm... not really sure how the naming convention works here though for the different species.

... Where are you from originally, if you don't mind me asking?

... I guess that makes sense. Some, anyway. These ... uh ... Pokemon, they act like they don't need much protecting.

Huh. Yeah, if the going thing is to name by noises, how do they figure out what to call ones that don't say words?

[He shakes his head. He won't worry about it.]

I've been a little bit of everywhere: Virginia, Louisiana.... Last thing I knew, I was in Justice, Nevada. Now I don't think I'm even on Earth!

Yeah. They don't. But they're animals so...

[Shrug.]

And I'm not sure. I haven't really tried to make sense of it.

Ah- So you're from the USA? I've actually never been there before. Got any good recommendations to visit? You're also correct, you're not... on our earth. I'm not sure of the name of this world though.

New Orleans is the place to be! Every kind of celebration imaginable! They don't like sleepin' down there; New Orleans is an all-night city!

[But he looks shaken by the confirmation this isn't Earth.]

So ... uh ... when do we get home?

[Or would he want to? He had just died back there; going back probably meant he'd still be dead. Maybe he'd have to make a new life here....]

New Orleans, huh? I'll keep that in mind! I've never visited a place that's always partying.

[Marik's smile shifts into an uncertain one.]

I... can't give you an answer on that, I'm afraid. I've heard some people return home after a few months, some have been here for over ten years... No one knows how it works.

... Well, I'm probably better off here now anyway.

So ... what goes on in this place? How do people make money?

[He'll probably end up loving Cajun food. Rice, select meats, and spices? Yes please.]

There's a good number of people who feel the same way, trust me. I'm one of them.

Hmm... As for money, I think you can get a proper job. I just make mine through battling and offering to teach people how to train their pokémon though. It's pretty easy.

Battling? Like the Pokemon? I know we had to go at some wild ones when they attacked, but that's really a way of life here? Back home it's illegal!

[In Snakes' time period, there are those who arrange brutal fights between dogs with people betting on them, so that is what he automatically thinks of.]

[Marik is familiar with the concept but seems unaffected by the aspect of it being illegal.]

It's less like cock fights and more... like exercise? It's really weird but some of them enjoy it. There's medical facilities in every town and they still potions so any damage your pokemon take, you can heal them.

... That is pretty out there. My blo - uh, Wobbuffet doesn't seem too interested in it. But that's legal and moneymaking, huh? I'll havta look more into it!

[Snakes' eyes gleam at the thought of money.]

You can always try catching other pokémon too. There's a couple of different ways you can do that. You can either weaken them first or ... just ask if they'd like to join your team. The latter is how I got pretty much all of my team.

Yeah? You just walk up to some random Pokemon and ask if they wanna come along, and they'll say Yes even without knowing you?

... Okay, I realize that sounds really stupid but most pokémon are friendly. A lot of them understand human speech and they'll let you know if they're interested or not.

Really, though, just out of the blue? I don't even need to watch them or have them watch me for a spell?

[Were the Pokemon really that gullible? ... Well, the blob is still here after Snakes had basically ran off "Every man for himself"....]

Not out of the blue, no. Not all the time at least. You do need to earn their trust first. Food helps or even just chatting with them.

I mean, that's how it's worked for me so far...
