No more than a few months, but with how much I roam, I'd expected to run into you again, even after waking up somewhere rather unfamiliar. With your need to prove yourself, especially.

Essentially, I sensed I might not be the only one who ended up here, so I've been following anything remotely competitive, and lo and behold I found you ♪

[ what he wonders to himself though, is if the both of them getting whisked somewhere unusual was tied to the Verse incident. ]

[ he choked a little on the dumpling in his mouth. that... was a pretty spot on assessment on him. he hated it to an extent. but no matter- he's here now, and that's that. but that just raises questions. ]

You could have been following any trainer, but you still managed to find me... [ he has to give it to ash, at least, for being so persistent. ] But yeah, Johto is pretty unfamiliar. I don't blame you for hunting down at least someone familiar to talk to. Bet the unfamiliarity has done you wonders.

Oh, it's just been dreadfully lonely without anyone familiar ♪

[ well, Rock isn't incorrect, actually. Ash has certainly had a ball charming and manipulating people to get what he wants. but he did genuinely miss having familiar faces, hence naming his team after people he's close to. ]

[ he can tell with that look that ash may have had some fun here and there. ] Even so, I'm sure there's something else you want from me. Does it involve the next possible King of Fighters?

Not as such. More that I want to find out why we've been brought here, stripped of our powers, and tasked with training unusual creatures.

[ he smirks, but his eyes show genuine excitement. ]

And you can't tell me you don't want to know yourself, non?

[ he grunts an approval. ]

You're not wrong. There's too many unknowns that it's driving me a little crazy. No news of Verse, no KOF to worry about... not even allowed to practice most martial arts without being seen as strange.

Right? It's almost suspiciously calm... suffice to say I don't trust it.

Neither do I. There has to to be more to all this than just training pokemon.

[ he finishes the skewer before continuing.] You're being surprisingly open about all this... But I'm relieved. It's a little easier to communicate with you when you're being open like that.

Well, with no huge threat looming over us for now, I don't have as much reason to hide behind my usual bravado, do I?

Though if we do uncover something suspicious, I can't guarantee I'll be as frank.

I suppose that's fair enough. But even so, I have the feeling I should keep an eye on you, regardless.

[ that comment of being frank, as well as that hidden meaning to his words, made rock smile slightly. at least he and ash had the same idea. ]

I would appreciate if you didn't hide anything from me at all. After all, if we're here, we might as well form a truce.
