It's time for our fall CR meme. Which will also include the fourth wall happening in November, so feel free to use this CR meme as a plotting post for that event too.

Please share your ideas of interactions you'd love your character to have, or plots you are rolling around in your head that might need a few more folks. Is your character looking for a friend? Canon: Thermae Novae Romae.

Cliffnotes: Lucius Modestus is earnest to a fault and approaches every situation he finds himself in with the utmost sincerity. Though his tendency towards formal behavior and his upright personality can be quite funny in juxtaposition with mundane situations it more often than not is more a sign of the way he was raised and the life he's led rather than something outright humorous. Differences between the Rome he hails from and the modern world can lead to some pretty heavy cases of culture clash, but Lucius’s personality allows him to act naturally in situations that would otherwise be extremely awkward or uncomfortable. He’s a sympathetic character, and his intelligence and curiosity allow him to see and experience more than would be possible if he were a more cynical or self-conscious person.

Looking for: Lucius has spent his life as a through-and-through worker bee, only finally stopping to focus on himself and his wife after years of nonstop grinding. Right when he was able to take time to build a family is when he was snatched away to the world of Pokémon though, so it's going to be hard for him not to sink into old habits and become a workaholic once more. As one of the only older people in the world he could really use a friend with similar interest to him, so anyone with predilections towards architecture or a passion for bathing culture would be a godsend.

If he's running in circles of younger folks, having people who are interested in what his decades of work have taught him would be really nice for him as it would be a way for him to share what he's passionate about without having to immerse himself directly. If he's able to interact with people closer to his age relaxing activities would be fantastic, as he's got a lot of mileage for a guy his age. Regardless of what friends he makes, though, he's not looking to butt heads with people. Clashes with Team Rocket are one thing, as Lucius doesn't back down from those he sees as evildoers, but he doesn't need to be engaging in social warfare as well.

So I already hit up your post with Sion, but if Lucius wants to get to know people who are more his age ~~or at least LOOK it~~ I could try to finagle a way for Geddoe to meet him!

Provided it wouldn't be an inconvenience to steer the two towards one another that would be grand! Lucius still has plenty to do in order to get acclimatized to the new world though, so there's no rush.

Given half a chance he's probably going to run off to catch more Falinks since nobody can convince him they're not all a collective Legion that needs to be reunited. As a result he'll likely be camping out wherever they live for some time.

Geddoe doesn't use the network much more than he has to because he's an old man with newfangled technology like that, but he's currently staying in Ecruteak which gives pretty easy access to the first several cities in Johto, if Lucius is going to be around there! I'm sure I can engineer an excuse if I need to, anyway. XD

Also now I'm imagining an all Falinks team and just. small little soldier 'mons EVERYWHERE.....

I think Lucius would be happy to have another old-soul around. The idea of wireless technology and virtual contact is going to be endlessly fascinating to him, but the idea that so much of the socializing in this world is done without face-to-face interaction is definitely going to bring out his inner old man. From what it's looking like he's going to head towards Cherrygrove as his first stop, and that will also serve as his first introduction to the idea of mud baths.

As a maestro of all things bath, that will be both interesting and disconcerting to him. The notion of being able to soothe yourself by immersing into something that can just consume you is something he could get behind, but the nature of working with something inherently filthy very much restricts his vision of what a bathhouse should entail. Does Geddoe enjoy the finer things or are his tastes of a simpler style?

See, Geddoe's just not very sociable in the first place. So this weird new tech being a thing doesn't help any. At all. XD

And hmmmm that's a good question, honestly! Geddoe's not a particularly personally ambitious sort, and has spent decades having to live simply because there's a limit to how long he can hang around one place before people start noticing he doesn't age, and having a true rune means it's usually a bad idea to do things that'll draw a lot of attention to himself. So luxury is typically right out, but that doesn't seem to bother him.

So he's probably right around the area of liking 'nice' things like a comfy bed and beer that actually tastes good when he can get it, but is pretty well content as long as he's got decent enough food and shelter.

Lucius might be a perfect fit for him then honestly. As an architect from the classical era his end goal is basically just getting some land and building something that looks like the homeland he's used to there. This will mean a lot of hands-on work as he builds it, much older-school operations than most of the 21st century folks would be running, and an idea of the finer things that doesn't involve nonstop electronics or being constantly connected to everyone and everything.

In regards to beer, Lucius can't promise much on that front but mulsum (honeyed wine) and a myriad of varieties of wine would be available aplenty if he had his way. Agrarian living is a cornerstone of the home life that Lucius is looking for eventually, too, so home cooked meals and proto-Italian food galore would be pretty box standard for his eventual endgame.

Workaholic that Lucius is, too, I think they could honestly be around each other for a very long time before it would even begin to dawn on him that Geddoe hasn't visibly aged. Cinnamon bun that he is, though, he'd probably just tease him a bit for being well-preserved and ask him if he can get a slice of whatever ambrosia he's spirited away. Fifty years later when Lucius is a grandpa and Geddoe hasn't changed at all, it might finally occur to him that something's up.

Well, for better or worse the aging thing isn't likely to come up within VR's timelines, hahaha. That, and he'll probably just end up telling some people once he's made some actual friends, he kind of just played a major role in a war back home in which it became VERY widely-known that he possesses a true rune, so it's more just habit that he's been hiding it here!

But yes they should definitely meet sometime! Two older guys who can hang out and appreciate those quiet boring little things while drinking booze. |Db

Though it's going to take a hot minute to get there I think Lucius will be able to make a lot of progress all at once when it comes time to actually get cracking on building, as he'll be hoarding Falinks like it's going out of style. He'll be a trainer in only the most technical sense of the word, as he fully intends to get his diminutive charges up-to-speed with the skillset set they should possess as Hoplites/Legionaries, and that will mean his little army of tiny round bois will be massively helpful in putting together building projects.

Where, ideally for Lucius, this would end up is with him building something of a Falinks reserve... except that it would end up built with exactly what Lucius' Rome-centered brain would build that. As a result it would be be both a big undertaking with plenty to unpack in that setting (should that be interesting to work around) as well as giving a place with more than few houses up for grabs if any of the old souls wanted to grab a place there.

An ambitious plan! If wants advice as to acquiring property and materials, well, someone actually recently asked about house-hunting, so as you can see from that there's a number of characters who can help with that.

As for the rest, well, that'll probably depend on where Geddoe is with regards to his stay in this world and what he feels like doing, but in any case it sounds like these two should definitely talk sometime. |Db

He'll definitely need help understanding legalese when it comes time to buy anything and, considering how many civil projects he interacts with in his normal life, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up asking a lot of questions about otherwise boring as hell stuff in the process of trying to recreate a slice of home within the Pokémon World. Gotta have the nest ready in the off chance his missus drops in though right? XD

Once he's on the road proper and actually interacting with the world it should be easy enough to arrange a meeting between the lads. Does Geddoe interact with gyms or pursue the typical trainer journey at all?

Boring stuff can still be important stuff!

Though I bet he'll have fun once he realizes he can have modern plumbing and electricity for whatever he builds...

Geddoe's been slowly but surely doing the gyms, but it's less that he cares and more that he realizes it's easy, quick money from the winnings. And that trainer discount at stores is nothing to scoff at!

The access to modern conveniences would be amazing for him when he realises they're up-for-grabs. Things like modern cooking ranges alone would be things he'd never even considered could be out there, but he'll have to figure out where and how he can actually buy them before he can stock the homefront.

On the gym side of things, while Lucius isn't particularly interested in fighting in them he's still a Roman through-and-through. Watching arena combat, whether with Pokémon or gladiators, is something he'd be more than happy to take part in. So once they get to know one another he'd be happy to be Geddoe'e cheerleader xD

He just needs to get to Goldenrod and check out the department store. More things than anyone could possibly dream of using it all...!

Anyway it looks like there might be some sort of IC get-together thing for the halloween event this year so that might be a good way to bump into each other if so?

Oh nice! I wasn't sure there was anything like that, so knowing there's an outright department store is great news. If it's something Ikea-size he's going to be blown away by the sheer size and selection, as it would take an entire market to match that kind of inventory where he's from.

Being new enough for the paint on me to not have even dried yet, I'm unfamiliar with what holiday events are like here. What all do events like the Halloween one generally consist of?

Both Goldenrod and Celadon cities have department stores, yes! And other stores, there's a couple pretty large-ish cities. If you go to the travel maps on from the game navigation page, they have blurbs on all the cities and a general idea of what you can find there! :|b

USUALLY something spooky-themed. It's varied from year to year! Often it's ghost-types causing trouble (like the year yamask possessed people) but one year dark types were running wild, and so on. So it could be anything, just likely that it's probably something that's stereotypically Halloween in some manner.

The reason I'm suspecting there'll be an actual everyone gathered in one place event is because the calendar page mentions that the NPCs Riegfried and Soy are doing something, and usually if they're involved that means it's a whole event of some sort characters can attend! So maybe a costume party, or a haunted house to end all haunted houses, or so on.

If there's a right-proper shindig I hope I'm able to put Lucius on the road enough to get himself better established by then. Right now, though he's learning a lot, he's still on the stoop of mom's house so he hasn't really gotten much done. I need to get him moving soon or he's going to end up sitting out there in the dark. Poor lad xD

I mean, I'm assuming he didn't sit there on the front step for a week, so presumably he's gotten somewhere by now! ;)

For the initial thread I'm assuming only about an hour or so will have passed since the time he first accidentally booted up his Pokégear to broadcast video. He'll have popped it on, gotten a bunch of people talking to him intermittently, and then pop off with the information he's received to head to wherever he ends up going to. I just gotta figure out an organic way for him to stop talking and hit the road though xD
