"People normally kiss under it. I'm not sure why." He kept his tone neutral. He was merely explaining what the tradition was with mistletoe.

Walter knew he was probably about to be labelled a creep when he hadn't intended for this situation at all and braced himself for it. Angel wouldn't want anything to do with him after this mistake.

"I never partook in it." Walter found he couldn't slip out from under the mistletoe, as if some force was holding him in it's radius. He gives Anders what he hopes is a calm shrug.

"Nobody has been interested in being with me. Mistletoe would not change their feelings." It had occurred to him in the past that even being under it would have him labelled as a creepy, desperate stalker or something similar. And, as was quickly becoming clear, he was somewhat afraid of receiving the affection he craved although Walter didn't even understand the bundle of knots currently tensing in his stomach at the thought of getting a kiss from anyone.

....wow. Talk about a cold shoulder. Geeze, kick a guy while he's down, why dontcha?

[Rhys is literally retreating from him. What the hell does he think is gonna happen? Nothing more than what's already happened. Which...okay, so that covers a lot.]

Your sad widower best buddy just needs a little affection, and you're friggin running. What the hell, Rhys?

You can go get affection from other people! You know how many people I see watching you in Goldenrod every day? Like, it's a lot. So.

[ Rhys looks up and tries to swat at the mistletoe. No dice. ] S-so, why don't you go find them? Or dress your pillow up to look like Nisha and plant her one.

[And now his expression is pulled into something dangerously close to pity.]

Oh, you poor thing. [Honestly, he isn't trying to be patronizing, he just... really feels bad for adults who haven't known intimacy. It's a whole thing.] Well, I think you're just lovely. I would be honored to share a kiss. [A not so subtle wink.] And anything else you're curious about.

Walter's not sure if he likes that tone or not. But the wink and the suggestion of 'anything else' cause him to do something he hasn't done in many, many years - he blushed darkly. He tried to find words but it took a few stammers before he manages to talk.

"N-no, you don't have to. It's fine."

Nooo nononono! It's, it's not bad luck to break tradition because today's Opposite Day!

[Anders has to force down a chuckle. He definitely wouldn't have taken Walter for "adorable," but here they are.]

Have to? No, I want to.

[He does lose the smile for a moment, though, to show sincerity.] Unless you're uncomfortable?

Oh my god so he did know.

Rhys' life right now is one of utter embarrassment.

"N-no! I, I did. Want a kiss." He smiles weakly and dangles the mistletoe again. "I thought I'd just...y'know. Not be a total sap and come in begging for one?" Or something like that. Rhys just kind of wants to disappear right now and not return for the next half century or so.

"I'll just...go."

[She catches him completely by surprise. Jack's just marveling that the whole mistletoe thing is socially acceptable. It just seems like it's setting everybody up for a sexual harassment suit, but what does he know?]

[So he doesn't notice Angel's careful approach, not until he actually feels the quick, fleeing peck on his cheek. And she's certainly not who he expects it to be when he turns.]

...thanks, sweetheart. I...uh...I uh, appreciate that.

[For a moment, Handsome Jack is stunned mostly speechless.]

Walter's expression is one of total shock. Rhys...wanted to kiss him??

"N-no, I just-" He swallowed, taking a breath to form the words in his head. "Nobody's wanted to kiss me before. I haven't been kissed." He admitted quietly, avoiding looking at Rhys.

He didn't know what to do. He wasn't adverse to this at all, but he really didn't know what to do and the situation isn't one he could- he had imagined often, when he was alive and holding onto hope, being held by someone. Kissing and often forms of affection were fleeting thoughts, often hastily shoved from his mind as impossible.

Walter's stunned beyond speech. He swallows thickly, like there's a lump in his throat. "I...don't know what to do." He admitted, hands held in front of him. This is a situation that never arose in his life.

[And the grin is back, but softer this time.]

I can show you. I'm very good at it.

[He straightens up, gathering Walter's hands in his to lower them. From there, one of his raises again to settle carefully on the other man's jaw, thumb stroking once or twice over the stubble there. With no further ado, Anders leans up to lightly brush their lips together in a manner surprisingly chaste after all that suggestive talk.

Still, as he settles back down, his brows arch inquisitively.] So. Thoughts?

The last time someone had touched his cheek, they had called him handsome but filthy, pointing out how he was homeless and dirty and how he was below her. But this time... He focused on breathing as Anders drew closer, keeping still.

It might have been the most chaste kiss ever, but Walter couldn't help a slight shiver. He bit his lip, wetting it slightly as he reflected on Ander's question. When he finally answered, his voice was still quiet. "...I liked it. Thank you." Beneath the thoughtful exterior, he couldn't ignore the voice in his head telling him that this was solely out of pity.

Ooh, this this explained a lot! Rhys feels himself blushing like an idiot. "N-never before? At all?"

He wasn't surprised. But he was! Walter was a nice looking guy; there had to be someone in that weird world of his that at least tried to give him a kiss once. All that angel stuff with the weirdo cult put to the side. But apparently not?

Rhys swallows hard, before looking to Walter with a bashful look. "You....do you want to find out? What it's like?"

Walter shook his head. When he was younger he liked to imagine that maybe his mother had kissed him once, before she left after he was born. But he had no way to know.

It didn't help that he had bad experiences in trying to approach people and his cult upbringing had included a very warped idea of sexual education, focusing on keeping the orphans terrified of sins and preventing them (especially Walter as the chosen Conjurer) from forming strong bonds with each other. It was easier to break an isolated, lonely child than one with a network of friends.

At Rhys' suggestion however, he shyly nodded. He did want to know. And he trusted that Rhys wouldn't be taking advantage or trying to humiliate him. "I don't know what to do." He warned, as if that wasn't already obvious.

[His smile settles into something soft, almost unassuming. It feels good to have pulled Walter out of his shell even a tiny bit.]

I'm glad. You're always welcome to come back for more.

[A delighted, and perhaps slightly bewildered, giggle escaped Angel's lips. She kicked at the air a few times, not an attempt to reach the ground, but simply to feel the air against her feet.]

I'm so glad to hear that. [She pressed another quick kiss to his mask, just to prove her words.] I feel the same way, Krieg.

PfmnahahahahAHAHAHA!

[Basically just as expected. Rhys, bro, you're a riot.]

[The sound of his voice seemed to make everything all the more awkward. She took a step back, not out of fear, but out of uneasiness. She'd conceded to him in some form, and the last thing she wanted was to see him take advantage of it.]

[Her gaze drifted away from him, to anywhere or anything else she could find. Meeting his eyes felt far too difficult for the time being.]

I hope you're happy. [Anyone else, and she might have said that they deserved it. But as generous as she was being this evening, she could say aloud that Jack deserved happiness.]

[Not after everything that had happened.]

Oh. [Angel's skin flushed scarlet almost immediately. She took a step back, away from beneath the plant. Her gaze darted around, looking at anything that wasn't Walter. He was a sweet man with a darling Pokemon, but romantic affection was the furthest thing from her mind.]

Thank you for telling me. [Luckily for Walter, all of her nerves and distress were directed toward the plant, rather than at him. If anything, she was grateful toward him. At least he had the decency to explain it first, rather than to lay one on her.]

No worse than having a feather land on me, love. [She reached out, taking his face into her hands. She laid another smooch on him, this time one that (at least hopefully) didn't end with someone collapsing.]

Ooh, this guy. This poor guy. Rhys offers him a smile and a shrug, lightly bumping shoulders with him. "Don't worry about it. Honestly I've kissed like..." A few people. Y'know. Girlfriends. "some people and you don't really know how to do it! It's like, you got these things shoved between your lips so what do you do, right?"

"Okay. So just...close your eyes. You don't even have to do anything."

So he'll wait until Walter's done that, and he'll lean in and press his lips gently against the other's!
