CR meme - Winter Edition

CR MEME!

It's time for our winter CR meme. By now most of all should've received your Snorunt fortunes so why not use that as a jumping off point?

Please share your ideas of interactions you'd love your character to have, or plots you are rolling around in your head that might need a few more folks. Is your character looking for a friend? An enemy? A rival? You could find it all here. And remember, the more detailed, the better! We all want all the CR, but specific plans, or at least a specific direction you want to take something in, will really help out everybody involved.

Like before, this CR meme will also include a template specifically geared towards Rocket CR. Please fill it in to let our Rocket members know how you feel about getting your characters involved in some crime.

Canon: The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
Cliffnotes: Tragic backstory is an understatement when it comes to Sion, but if you want to you can read a monster of a summary here and be horrified. Beyond that, he's been in Johto over a decade and has been a gym leader for a number of years now, so he's mellowed a bit. Still a big ball of issues, though, it just hides under that friendly, all-loving exterior.
Looking for: MANY THINGS but most especially people down for first being good friends and then poking/calling out his issues. Because boy does he still have issues.
Recent post: None, though he may be making a post soon.

Canon: Original character
Cliffnotes: Shy kid sired by a fay who has huge hangups about his appearance. And being social in general. Has been improving on this little by little during his time in Johto, and is currently living with Sandalphon and Corrin. Sandy's pretty much adopted him tbh
Looking for: MORE FRIENDS. Shrike is still pretty shy but has been learning to be social, more people for him to hang out with/talk to would be great, since you can still count the people he's come to really trust so far on one hand...
Recent post: Nothing current, unless you count 4th wall...

Canon: Suikoden III
Cliffnotes: Somewhat asocial old mercenary who thinks immortality's a curse and who's so deadpan good luck telling when he's actually joking. He has a lot of secrets and some very old traumas/emotional wounds he still hasn't gotten over, but if you need some hired muscle he's your man. He's doing the whole getting badges thing in Johto for lack of anything better to do/it's a good way to kill time. Because he's still kind of in the mindset of he just has to stick it out here for however long and then he'll be back with his friends at home, right?
Looking for: Things!! Really more people who will pester him or refuse to leave him alone are always great. People interested in hiring an experienced mercenary for.... things, are also more than welcome. Geddoe can be tricky to deal with sometimes because he doesn't emote much, regardless of how he's feeling, but if you do get through to him he's incredibly devoted to his friends.

✓ Anything else? Note that both Sion and Geddoe are fairly savvy and Sion in particular has very deep-seated but very high functioning paranoia, so neither are likely to be remotely easy targets. Shrike would be but do you REALLY want to do that to the kid?? Both Sion and Geddoe will also actually hit/punch/stab you rather than just relying on pokemon to battle!

I would like to do more with Louie and Shrike and/or throw Varian Shrike's way, if you'd be interested! Louie talks a lot and I like how that can gel with more quiet/shy characters. Varian is more likely to overwhelm someone like that, he comes on strong and gets generally overeager, but if that kind of thing would be fun for you to explore, I certainly think I'd enjoy it!

Honestly more people who can deal with Shrike's shyness are great! He CAN get talkative if it's something he knows a lot about or has strong feelings on, but a lot of the time it's just. he doesn't know what he's supposed to say/do so awkward quiet shyness it is! So as long as it's not to the point of Shrike feeling overwhelmed/intimidated (which I think Louie is socially savvy enough to avoid) that could definitely be interesting. And hey, Louie could help him with his reading/writing/math practice, too.

And FUNNY THAT YOU MENTION VARIAN because I was actually looking at your comment and thinking huh, that actually has potential for an interesting dynamic, if they can manage to hit some common ground. :|a It doesn't come up frequently ICly but, technically, counting his time in Johto Shrike's now 17 (and will be 18 in a few months) which puts him closer to Varian's age range, and like I said, Shrike can always use more friends!

Yes, that all sounds great! I feel like it had come up before that Louie could help him practice with writing/reading and math, and I'm still all for that.

And oh man, the close in age thing is a huge starting point on it's own to be honest. Varian would just be excited to meet more older teens, and it's definitely CR I'm very interested in.

I remember talking about it but I think we never got a chance to properly do much with it? Shrike ended up bonding with Ryner over a 4th wall though so Ryner's been helping teach him... but Shrike still needs uh. a lot of practice. Kid's smart and a quick learner, but he's had zero formal education and is lucky he picked up how to read at all in the first place...

Yeah see THE THING IS Shrike is... older than he looks, because his aging is funky. When I first apped him I described him as "no more than 12 years old" in appearance but tbh that was being generous; now two years later he'd probably be a more convincing 12-year-old. XD But! He's also incredibly shy (he is naturally introverted) and has... not had very much positive social interaction at all prior to finding himself in Johto so he's also more than a little underdeveloped emotionally, too. All of which makes it very easy for people to assume he really IS the age he appears to be.

SO if Varian is willing to deal with the shyness and social awkwardness to get to know someone else who's an actual teenager, I'd definitely be down for that! |D

Sounds good! Plus, Louie is better suited to giving like, additional/supplemental lessons than doing the bulk of the teaching.

Oh I see! That's interesting, and I mean, Varian just has a different brand of social awkwardness, that's also tied in part to a lack of interactions. He'd definitely be able to deal with the shyness and all in terms of not being put off, so as long as Shrike can deal with Varian's eager personality, this should be fun!

Honestly the only times Shrike's done poorly specifically because of the PERSON being too much and not general shyness is like... when the other person's just kind of completely dominated the conversation and pretty much steamrolled over anything Shrike might have to contribute. Shrike tends to react to that sort of thing as "oh okay I guess I don't matter" and hunker down to wait for it to be over. But as long as there's some give and take he can usually manage, and if you actually get him on a topic he's knowledgeable on then he's just. a nerd.

Shrike is, for better or worse, now pretty firmly on Vierna's radar as "kid whose wellbeing I care about for some reason," between their one conversation about knife sharpening a while back and being Assigned Benefactor By Delibird? She doesn't want to spook him but if there are opportunities in the future for her to low-key check in or be helpful she'll probably take them.

I don't think I have any posts with him planned in the near future, but if she happens to be in Ecruteak that's where he's living now! Or if there's another event everyone's invited to or something. :|a

Honestly Shrike I can see Cordy attaching to even though she's never really had a younger sibling, partly because Vierna's fond of him and also because he is kind of precious.

Keep giving him candy, see how long it takes Sandalphon to flip out and make a scene. :D

For real though I'm always done for Shrike meeting new people! He WILL still be shy at first and slow to warm up to someone because just. a lifetime of being treated poorly by others tends to leave some significant scars, but with time and patience he usually eventually starts opening up. Plus if she's at all familiar with fae/fay/fair folk/whatever you wanna call 'em she might have an easier time understanding some of his quirks* than most.

* Note that it's pretty impossible to tell whether said quirks are actually due to fay heritage or just thanks to his upbringing, such as it was...

If she knows enough to know that usually one must proceed with caution when dealing with such but still treats Shrike like, y'know, a normal person that's pretty big. Most people in his world see an obvious fayblood and go "hmm probably can't be trusted better be careful" or so on. It is a Thing.

But yes! I am definitely down for threads.
