[He shrugs.]

Perhaps they're updating the mainframe? If it's connected to such a large system, they'd need an equally large machine to transfer it from.

But I'm no expert in technology.

[He is but. Appearances.

The albino tilts his head slightly to one side as he sees the gears turning. If going along with her hairbrain scheme means distracting her from Rocket work then he's all for it.]

I can't say that I have. Shall we go looking for one?
icefallen: (Just kidding!)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-01 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
If you're not in a hurry to be anywhere. I would hate to keep you from more important things. Otherwise, I'd be happy to accompany you.

[That begs the question of "who would be most likely to throw out a carpet?" She pauses to consider.]

I suppose a carpeting or home goods store might have something fairly cheap, if there are none on the curbside. It doesn't need to be extravagant... but thicker is probably better.

[personal profile] lorentzforcego 2023-04-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. I do things at my own pace, even if it's tedious chores.

[He folds his hands behind his back.]

I will admit, I would rather not dumpster dive but that may be the best place to look... Unless the carpet stores sell segmented pieces at a discount.

Or if you'd like to report such an eyesore to the police and see what they do instead?

[The Rocket grunt slowly looks back at him. Really, dude?]
icefallen: (That so?)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-03 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[She glances over her shoulder, considering that option... then turns back and smiles.]

Why not both?

[At least it'll be getting one fool off the street, and protect the street until whoever's using the cable picks it up again.]

As for the carpet, maybe two or three of those cheap rubber bath mats laid across? Surely those can't cost that much, and it'll spare us both the indignity of digging around in the trash.

A fair point.

[With his hands behind his back, he signs something to the grunt, knowing he heard the suggestion of getting the police involved. By the time they return with a carpet, he and the wires will be long gone.

He glances back to check if the message has been received. The grunt gives him an exaggerated finger wiggle as if he's deciding what button to press. He got it.

Good. Monsoon returns his attention to Rio.]

Rubber is typically more expensive unless you're speaking of those extremely cheap ones that are more plastic than rubber?
icefallen: (Wow、you're something.)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-04 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what I meant. I simply defaulted to rubber because that's what the material sort of feels like. It doesn't have to be actual rubber...

[Rio grimaces suddenly, recalling the state of her money.]

But thinking of it, I may have to just leave it for right now. I can't afford to spend much more at the moment until I can get some more training in. I'd forgotten about that... I'm sorry.

[She brushes her hair back self-consciously. So maybe she isn't that great with money, so what? She'll learn the hard way if need be.]

[The albino blinks and tilts his head slightly to the side although he continues walking even if they're no longer headed to the carpet store.]

Probably for the best. The life of a trainer is a hard one. Still, it's good to treat yourself once in a while. I assume you had a good shopping spree despite the incident with the wires?
icefallen: (How could I not?)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-11 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it is difficult, yes! But I'm finding it enjoyable so far. It's quite a bit more hands-on than what I'm used to, but I want to get good at it like anything else. If so much here is weighed by how good you are as a trainer, well... that stands to reason. Ah, but I did have fun shopping here as well; I shall have to come back sometime.

[Which, as everything else, is directly correlated to how good she is in battling others. She's got catching up to do, needless to say, and she's very determined when it comes to applying herself to things.]

...How long did it take you to really feel like you were getting used to it, if I may ask?

You're quite right if that's the route you wish to take. There are those who do not wish to battle despite being trainers, simply wanting to coexist with them like you would a companion, and those who wish to create life and friendships through breeding. That's good you're enjoying yourself though. That's what matters.

[The older man hums in thought at her question, taking a moment to consider how to answer.]

About a week.

[Mostly just due to him getting used to being human again.]

I'm not particularly competitive though. If I were... hmm.... it would certainly take longer for me to settle into learning everything there is to know about battling and such.

Oh, but don't let my example make you feel like you need to rush. You should take things at your own pace.
icefallen: (Say what?)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-12 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Is it really that nuanced? I know about some of the type matchups, since a lot of them are kind of common sense -- fire beats ice, ground beats electric, that sort of thing. But the rest of it...

[Holding things in battle? Extra effects of moves? Something about Pokemon personalities affecting their battling capabilities? And to think that's just the tip of the iceberg. Maybe she does have an awful lot of learning to do...]

Well, I'd hardly be me if I wasn't competitive! I was good at a lot of competitive sports back home. It'll be a long road to get better at this, but as long as I'm here, I may as well try to fit in.

Yes, there are many aspects to it. Not everyone will excel in the same areas but it's like that with all things. You will find a method that works best for you, whether it's you meta-gaming or battling head long in and scraping by the skin of your teeth.

[The comment about competitive sports piques his interest as she can tell by his stature perking up a bit.]

What sort of sports did you compete in, if I may ask?
icefallen: (You sure about that?)

[personal profile] icefallen 2023-04-13 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see... I played soccer, baseball, basketball, and did some boxing, among other things. The heads of those clubs at school even wanted me to coach them, but I turned them all down. None of them were really able to play on my level, so...

[That's a healthy amount of confidence in her voice as she brushes some hair back and grins. Locally famous twin brother be damned; she's proud of her accomplishments!]

I might be slight compared to some people, but technique is everything when you're at a physical disadvantage. And I suppose that goes for Pokemon, too.

Ohho. That's quite the list of accomplishments! I see now why you're as passionate as you are about becoming a trainer then.

[It's good to see people strive to do their best and achieve so many things, especially when so young. It genuinely warms Monsoon's heart hearing that.]

You're absolutely correct. What you lack in brawn you can make up for in brains. As long as you keep that mindset, I believe you'll have very little trouble getting your feet under you and becoming one of the best trainers this world has to offer.
