Bo-Katan Kryze | The Mandalorian

[New Bark Town]

[In all her many years of being a Mandalorian warrior, this is the strangest thing that’s ever happened to her.

Bo-Katan wakes up, finding herself in what appears to be the room of a child. Still fully clad in armor. Though a quick search of her person leads her to realize with dread that she’s completely unarmed. The travesty.

Before she knows it she’s having a bag shoved at her while being pushed out through the front door of the house by some strange woman. No amount of demands or protesting doing any good. She is left to stand there somewhat stunned. Taking in her immediate surroundings which is a quaint little town, she hears something at her feet. Looking down, a pair of big black eyes blink back up at her. The round bird, what she would later discover is called a Rowlet, makes a trilling sound and turns its head at an odd angle. Bo-Katan lifts a brow at the strange bird.]

What’re you looking at?

[She then walks away, deciding to explore the town and see if she could get answers from… anyone. The Rowlet blinks again and watched her go for a moment before running after her on stubby legs, wings extended, for several paces before taking to the air.]

[Route 29]

[Answers were not to be had in town. At least not the ones she was looking for. Far too many people commenting on her cute “pokie mon”. And speaking of that thing, it wouldn’t leave her alone. Going so far as to try to perch on her helmet after she put it back on. The Mandalorian princess waving her arms at it in a shooing motion.]

Stop that! Go away!

[She then proceeded to take what looked like the road out of town. Again shooing away the stupid bird as she went. Though a voice made her freeze.]

Hi! I like shorts! They’re comfy and easy to wear!

[Turning around she finds herself face to face with a kid wearing… shorts.]

Excuse me?

[Eye contact has now been made! Unknowingly to Bo-Katan that meant a battle! The kid throwing one of those weird balls that she found in the bag. What pops out of it is a purple rat. The kid giving it a command while pointing at the bird next to her. What commenced was some sort of brawl between the two animals. The bird flailing and occasionally looking at her expectantly, as if she was supposed to do something. A sigh filters through her helmet’s vocoder.]

What is happening right now?

[Cherrygrove City]

[Eventually Bo-Katan makes it to Cherrygrove City. This place is at least has a little more civilization going for it, though she’s still being followed by the Rowlet. The Mandalorian doing her best to simply ignore it, hoping it’ll give up and move on.

What appears to be a bar does catch her eye and you know what? A stiff drink is probably exactly what she needs right now. So in she goes and sits herself on a stool. The bird flying in and landing on another one next to her.

Taking off her helmet, she sets it on top of the bar before giving the person behind it a look.]

I’ll take the strongest thing you’ve got.

Route 29

[Just another day in Pokemon world, just living life and doing his thing. Mando had really hoped for a quiet day, but then there's a ruckus off in the distance. He checks his communicator; yes, he's near New Bark Town, meaning it's probably someone new to this world who doesn't understand Pokemon combat yet. Mando sighs and trudges off in the direction of the noise, quietly hoping it gets resolved before he gets there.]

[But then he turns a corner and sees who's fighting, and he freezes.]

[It's been years since he's seen another Mandalorian. Almost two years in this place, and he's been the only one from his world. He hadn't realised how much he could miss seeing someone familiar until he spots Mandalorian armour, a Mandalorian helmet. Better yet, it belongs to someone he knows.]

[Mando strides up next to her, taking a Pokeball out from his belt and tossing it into the fray.]

Kando, take care of the rat.

[Mimikando the Mimikyu pops out of her ball. She shakes her head, then shoots Mando a look. Seriously? You got her out to deal with this?]

Bo-Katan. You're here.

[Mando is completely ignoring the kid and the three loose Pokemon. He has utmost confidence that Kando will beat the snot out of that Rattata and not even muss her costume.]

When did you arrive?

[OOC: Din is from the last episode of Boba Fett as his canon point. He's also been going by Mando here because of paranoia and also hey, when you're the only Mandalorian around, it makes sense. A few people know his real name but not many. He won't be offended at all if Bo calls him Din or Djarin, though.]

[As someone comes up next to her, Bo-Katan quickly looks and startles a little bit.]

Din?!

[She hadn’t at all expected to see him here. Last she saw him was just before he left Mandalore, unsure when or if she would see him again. But now here he was, and truth be told she felt a little relieved.

Bo herself looks mostly the same. Though her armor is a little more scuffed. The one exception being her right pauldron. The old one replaced with a shiny unpainted one with the emblem of the mythosaur on it. Perhaps he might recognize the craftsmanship.

Her helmet turns as she looks from him, to the creature he released, then back to him. A bit dumbfounded but eventually able to find her words.]

A few hours ago.

[The fighting animals are completely ignored now as she focuses her attention on him.]

When did you get here?

[That's an odd feeling, having someone use his given name. He's been going by Mando for so long here that it almost sounds weird to be called anything else. But she definitely recognises him, and Din nods to her.]

Yes.

[Kando promptly KOs the Rattata with an entirely unnecessary Plays Rough. Her work done, she goes over to the Rowlet to introduce herself. Yes, hello birdie, you have a helmet person too, she sees.]

Almost two years now.

[He does notice the new pauldron. After having to fight and scrap so long to get his own armour, he pays attention to other people's armour in a way that is only slightly judgmental.]

You lost your pauldron.

[The painted one, anyway.]

What?

[The surprise is clear even through her helmet.]

But that’s…

[Impossible. She just saw him not that long ago.

Meanwhile the Rowlet cheers in its Rowlet way when Kando takes out the Rattata, its owner clearly unimpressed. The kid complaining about how that’s not fair. The round bird then strikes up conversation with the other Pokémon. Telling her all about her armored human who doesn’t seem to like her.

At the mention of her pauldron, Bo-Katan looks at her shoulder and then back to Din.]

Yes. [A pause.] You don’t remember?

[singlespacedad]

Time doesn't move the same way here. Everyone says that it's like time stops back home while you're here, and then starts back up if you go back.

[Kando shoos the kid away. Get lost, buster, no one wants your money. Take your rat and try again another time. Then she turns back to the Rowlet, nodding in sympathy. Yeah, it's hard sometimes, the humans don't always understand how great Pokemon are. Don't worry, though, her human is on the case, and he'll convince the Rowlet's person that she should be nicer to the little bird.]

No. [Well, this is awkward. Best to head it off at the past.] The last thing I remember from home was flying to Tattoine to help Boba Fett. We haven't seen each other in months.

[Months, years, whatever. Time gets screwy when you start dealing with hyperspace.]

[Riz recognises the armour, of course. It isn't even from living with Mando for more than a year now; Mandalorian armour is distinct enough that he feels he'd have recognised it even if he had only ever seen it once in his life.

(the fact that he sees said armour every day across the breakfast table does kind of help though)

If there is another Mandalorian here, he'll have to inform Mando. And Riz might have left it at that -- he might have just taken the knowledge of another Mandalorian being here and reported it to Mando, leaving him to deal with another one of his kind, if it weren't for her doing the unthinkable: she takes her helmet off.

Listen, Riz has been navigating Mando's absolute refusal to ever take off the tin can for more than a year now. He's seen him panic like his ass was on fire the one time the helmet was taken from him (which had led to a complicated but kind of hilarious Mando-walking-with-a-shirt-around-his-head manoeuvre). He's done the whole if-Mando-is-in-a-room-we-don't-open-it-ever deal. Bo-Katan taking off the helmet piques his interest and now he has to talk to her.

And that is how Bo-Katan ends up with a very short teenager scrambling onto the seat next to her, leg still rather stiff, his eyes curious though not particularly judgemental.]

I thought those weren't supposed to come off.

[Never let it be said that Riz is good at small talk.]

[When a glass is put in front of her, Bo picks it up and quickly takes a mouthful. It’s when she swallows that a kid climbs up onto the other stool next to her. Not paying him any mind until he speaks.

It’s then she turns and gives him an odd look. Not because he’s a kid, or even because he’s green. There’s plenty of green people in her galaxy after all. It’s the question.]

Where did you hear that?

[She could take a guess but she wanted to hear his answer first.]

[Riz hesitates for a moment.

Can he trust this woman? If Mando's various bounty hunting stories had taught Riz anything, it was that Mando had lived a dangerous (and seriously badass) life before coming here. It's the sort of life that comes with more than its fair share of enemies. Can he trust her with the knowledge that Mando is here? She might not have any weapons on her, but Riz knows well enough that you don't need weapons to kill someone if you are motivated enough.

Not that he underestimates Mando and his ability to keep himself safe. But it would be a bother, and if she'd come after him, it might put Boober at risk.]

I met one once. A Mandalorian, I mean. He was very insistent the helmet stays on.

[That's... vague enough, right? Nothing to indicate Riz still know this guy. Or that he lives with him.]

[ooc: just as a note, VR humanises characters, so alas. Not very green right now.]

[A little amused smirk comes to her face. The woman giving a single shake of her head before taking another sip of her drink. That definitely sounds familiar.]

Din Djarin, I take it?

[Of course it might not be. It could be anyone else from his covert. But that’s her most educated, and a little hopeful, guess.

Sorry Din, she just name dropped you.]

Is he here?

[Please say yes.]

((OOC: Oh right lol. My bad. Ignore the green part then. XD))

[Riz's eyebrows fly up in surprise. Though he has never stopped referring to Mando as, well, Mando, he had been entrusted with his true name too. And they way he had done it had given Riz the impression that not many know Mando's real name. At least, not many casual acquaintances.]

You know him?

[He's not gonna answer that second question just yet. If she knows Mando's name she is clearly more than a casual acquaintance, but Riz is well aware that doesn't need to mean they are actually friends. Sometimes the people you hate and fear most are the ones very close to you.]

Cherrygrove

[Bars aren’t normally Shadowmaru’s thing. But he happened to be in Cherrygrove on business (sort of), and why not? His Pokémon team did appreciate the berry juices provided, and he had to supervise them after all.]

[It’s not a dark brooding corner of the bar, it’s actually very nicely lit, but the corner table is his and his small army of canine pokemon. Fairy Type:Null included.]

[… it’s the Type:Null who spies the woman in armor first. And hey! He knows that armor! That’s their friend! Right? So he’s absolutely thrown for a loop when it’s clearly not the Mandalorian they know… and… the helmet comes off?]

[Oberon the Null screeches to a stop, with a shower of startled glitter. Which of course alerts Shadowmaru something is amiss and…]

[Well. That’s a young man with vivid purple hair clasping a hand to his eyes like he’s seen something inappropriate.]

Madame Mandalorian! There are eyes here!

[She’s just happily sipping at her drink, minding her own business. Her Rowlet notices the Null and peeks around Bo to look at it, beak agape at the shower of glitter.

It’s not until the verbal outburst that the lady Mandalorian actually turns. A brow lifting as she sees the young man with a hand over his eyes.

She then smirks, turning in her seat to lean against the bar. Posing with an elbow propped up on it. Deciding to mess with this guy a little bit.]

You don’t like my face?

[sassymaru]

That’s hardly the issue!

[He sort of flaps a hand in her vague direction. His Pokémon, two Growlithe and Null are also hiding their eyes in what they hope is a helpful fashion.]

It’s been my understanding that showing one’s face is taboo for your people.

[… okay all of one Mandalorian he’s met.]

I’m merely attempting to be considerate! As are they. [The Pokémon.]

[She looks at him and the Pokémon, and does have to admire their attempt to be considerate. She sighs a little, taking another sip of her drink before getting up and walking over to this man’s table to sit across from him. Her Rowlet flying over too to poke at one of the Growlithe with her wing.]

Only some of our people. You can relax.

[She has an idea where this probably came from. Someone from Din’s covert, if not Din himself, must be here.]

[The Growlithe, the normal Kanto type, sneezes, but uncovers its eyes to sniff at Rowlet, wagging its tail. The other, a Husian, soon joins the sniffing. Shadowmaru himself is a bit more hesitant to remove the hand from his eyes. As if this is some sort of test.]

I was not aware it wasn't widespread... my dear Mandalorian prefers to keep his helmet in place, and I wish to respect that.

[Yeah, his experience with Mandalorians has been ... one.]

I hardly intended to insult your face, Madam. I apologize.

[... also he's just. Like this.]

Route 29

[Route 29 is a good place for letting your baby pokemon out to gain some experience. Shiro doesn't really have a lot of those, but his Litleo and Archen have been itching for battle for a while now. He's got his Aggron for backup, just in case, but for the most part, it's a big guy in a hideous Hawaiian Alolan shirt, a weird dinosaur bird, a lion cub, and an even bigger metal dinosaur wandering the route, training in the tall grass.]

[And, of course, hearing people speak up.]

[By the time the little party gets through the tall grass, it's too late. The battle has started - and Shiro's nerdy heart does a little flip. Mandalorian armor. Holy crap. Okay. Be cool. Do not nerd out. He clears his throat, and calls out - ]

((ooc: hello! shiro's a star wars fan, but I play him as only knowing the vague basics, so no 4th Walling or anything will happen. Just enough to recognize the armor! If that's not cool I will absolutely edit, no problem!)

[Hearing someone arrive, Bo-Katan turns to see some guy in a very loud shirt.]

With what, exactly?

[She has no idea what’s going on here. Should she even care? Though it can’t be seen due to her helmet, she does wince a little when the rat bites the bird. Causing the little owl to shriek.

Folding her arms across her chest, she stares at the animals.]

Why isn’t it fighting back?

[Oh crap - that doesn't sound good. He starts making his way over, followed by his own pokemon.]

Pokemon need trainers to give them orders. Tell it to tackle.

[Behind him, his Aggron bobs its head in a nod.] We can explain more after - but you've got to tell Rowlet to attack.

[mywayistheway]

What? Why?

[Clearly she’s confused about this but that must be why the round owl thing kept looking at her like that.

With the promise of explanation later she sighs again and waves her hand at the flailing bird.]

You heard him. Tackle that thing.

[Rowlet perks up and does just as she’s told and leaps at the rat, landing on top of it. She cheers in victory! That is until the kid tells it to do the same thing and knocks over the Rowlet.]

Just - trust me on this one.

[They're all making their way over, closer. This is a heck of a way to get introduced to the pokemon world, really.]

Try Sand-Attack. Or Screech.

[Lower the opponent's stats and make those tackles count!]

Cherrygrove City

[Following a stranger around is not typical Boober behavior. It is, in fact, something he generally considers stupidly risky behavior. But seeing someone in armor like Mando's, what else is the teen to do? That curiosity that all fraggles seem to have takes over, and he slips into the bar behind her.

He barely gets a step away from the door before considering leaving, but then... She takes off her helmet. And that's really weird, compared to what Boober's used to. The part of him that really cares about rules is troubled, but he still wants to be cautious. So he pulls out the mudhorn emblem Mando made him, rubbing it like a worry stone for a moment before stepping forward with the object held out.]

Excuse me, but does this mean anything to you?

[mywayistheway]

[Being the seasoned warrior that she is, she knows when someone is following her. However, it’s hardly concerning since it’s only a kid, but she keeps up her guard just in case. Even when she gets a glass and starts sipping at it.

Little did she expect that the kid would actually eventually come up to her and show her something. Looking at him and then down at his hand, Bo’s eyes widen a little as she sees the familiar emblem. Now he has her attention and she turns to face him better.]

Where did you get that?

[Why, yes, it does mean something to her.]

[He takes a half-step back at her question, feeling intimidated - as he generally does - but not enough to run away. He does, however, pocket the emblem again.]

From-- Din Djarin. [He's known him as Mando, then Uncle Mando, and now simply "dad," but he never calls him Djarin even after he shared his name.] He's been looking out for me since I got here.

[No one would really blame him for being intimidated. Bo could definitely be intimidating, even if she wasn’t trying to be. It was simply part of being a Mandalorian.

Hearing Din’s name though brought a sense of relief. Someone she knows is here too.]

That sounds like him.

[Din seems to have a soft spot for kids. Not that she can really blame him either.]
