[Action]

[In the tall grass, just outside of Violet City, on the Violet City side of Route 36, a young man sits, weaving plucked blades into something. It's impossible to tell what it is right now, he must have just started. A Honedge floats near him, apparently on watch. He turns to it, after a bit.]

You don't have to patrol so much, you know. [Honedge replies with a disgruntled noise. POKEMON LIVE IN THE TALL GRASS DON'T YOU KNOW???]

Not going to dissuade you, hmm? [He reaches into his nearby bag and pulls out some brightly colored Poke-puffs] Then, perhaps a snack would help?

[Honedge tries to stay annoyed, but it just can't in the presence of such delicacies. It settles down next to the man, happily munching on it's food. The man, in turn smiles and pats its handle affectionately, before going back to weaving.]

[Network]

.....Hello? [The camera jostles and moves around as Jack inspects the Gear.]

I think I've activated this device, somehow. [He peers into the camera lens, giving the network a nice closeup of his eye.]

My apologies. I can tell that there is some sort of camera, but I must admit that the workings of such devices are still quite confusing to me.

Is...this connected to another device? The book read that it was meant for communication with others....um....if anyone can hear me, please, respond?

It's connected to a network--a sort of shared communication between a large number of devices. So yes, anyone who has one can hear you.

I take it you've just arrived in this world?

I see! I have heard of such networks. It is to my knowledge that people find these devices more reliable than carrier birds. I admit....it is quite convenient to speak to someone who is some distance away, rather than wait for a letter.

I have, yes. The creatures here are quite....interesting.

It's quite a bit more convenient, yes. Not to mention immensely faster.

Not voluntarily that anyone's found, no. However, people do get returned to their worlds as suddenly as they find themselves here, although the times can vary drastically.

I am no stranger to time travel, as strange as it may seem. This is just another trial in my quest of living.

That does make explanations somewhat easier. Though as time spent here has no impact on other worlds, perhaps you can find a way to make good use of it?

That haven't been proven false? None in particular that I can think of. No one's been able to find any pattern to it, either, as far as I'm aware.

I didn't say there wasn't; people leave here all the time, after all. It's just a matter of it not being planned or voluntary.

Then surely, there is a source of such magic! My quest is clear now- I will find the source of the magic that brings people here and sends them back!

[Rakka leaves the towns sometimes to just. get outside. She has to sometimes, Botan had decreed it when she found Rakka asleep in her store after working for so long.

So, here she was, walking down the route outside Violet city - Well, she wasn't walking per se. She was riding, on her Dodrio. And again, it's not her that notices Jack, it's her Dodrios.

And they don't see Jack, they see his Poke-puffs.

Is Jack prepared for this? He might be, as three loudly squawking heads calling from across the field signal the arrival of a large bird, and the girl holding onto it's back for dear life.]

The noise does grab his attention, though he doesn't turn around. He motions for Honedge, who wraps it's arm-sash around his right wrist. He sets down the half woven grass hat he had been working on, but still doesn't turn. It's almost as if he's just wanting the Dodrio to strike.

[The dodiro comes for him, stopping before the samurai and rearing up. They found it!!! They found the smell!!!

Meanwhile, Rakka barely has any idea what's going on yet.]

Whaaa! Wha!

[jack_to_the_future]

[Sword in hand, he turns, and offers a puff!]

[charcoalfeather]

[AWWWWWW YEAH

One of the heads carefully takes the puff in it's beak and backs away for the other two heads to squabble with it.

This is also when Rakka finally loses her grip and goes tumbling off the back of her ride and into the grass, only to pop her head up a moment later.]

....Uh, hi?

Are you all right?

Ow, ow, ow... [The girl rubbed her shoulder, slowly raising to her feet. Her Dodrio had gone off to reap the spoils of all this.]

I-I'm alright. I guess my pokemon smelled the food you had and... got excited.

[She shakes her head.] I'm so sorry about that.

[jack_to_the_future]

A treat can be quite enticing. [He reaches to pet a Dodrio head.] There is nothing to apologize for.

[There are three heads, so, take your pick, Jack. They are certainly open to having headpats now that one of them had finally consumed the pokepuff.

Rakka, on the meanwhile, still looked very sorry for herself, if no one else.]

I-I know how that feels... [hehe...] Still, I-I really, really appreciate you not starting a fight over a treat.

Why would I do something like that? Is that...common occurrence here?

Ah... [She opens her mouth, letting it hang open for a couple seconds before she finds the words she needs.]

I'm sorry. You must be new here. [Or not, but hey, she's presuming things again.] Usually, if two people with pokemon meet out here like this, they're supposed to battle with their pokemon.
