Apparently that's what you're supposed to do if you're a "trainer". You get paid for it, so it's worth your while, aside from being a crash-course on how things work around here.

[Aside Jean is a little Blitzle who noses her way under his arm. He pats her head without really thinking about it.]

This place is really strange after everything we've seen. It's like being paid for nothing.

[It's so simple, that it shouldn't be this confusing but it is.

...Why couldn't her pokemon do that when it wanted her? Instead of jumping on her.]

I've asked the locals here how the economy stays afloat. Usually their answer boils down to "because Pokemon."

[Domino was a respectable Blitzle, thank you very much. Also, she found that being sneaky was the best way to get Jean's affection. She got the most pets when he wasn't really thinking.]

[stopfen]

That seems to be the answer to everything. Where the food comes from, how transport works...

[And she got stuck with a sneasel, that was an angry toddler. Sure he listened. But he's try and run to attack the wildlife if she didn't tell him not to.

And with that thought. He's poking his head into view. Then it's time for him to aggressively headbutt the arm holding the gear. It gets him a glance, and a head pat from her free hand. It doesn't work he's just gets more clingy.

Jean...Jean please look at what she puts up with. Cause she's giving up and linefacing her way through it.]

[Domino snorted at the Sneasel's bratty behavior. A starter should make their Trainer's life easier, not worse! He should behave himself!]

I can't blame them. I mean, these things are basically an endlessly renewable energy source, not to mention a form of transportation, free personal protection... People would be stupid not to harness that kind of power.

[stopfen]

[Brat is right. He just pops open an eye and pokes his tongue out once he's comfortable on Mikasa's arm.]

It's just strange. Having something like that to rely on... Like when we learnt the people outside the walls didn't have maneuver gear.

[She pauses again.] In the last town I visited. I got a job in the local store, but whenever I went to lift a box a pokemon would run over and do it.

[Domino rolled her eyes. Definitely not a Pokemon worth associating with.]

Ha! Little do they know you're as strong as any one of those... Machoke, I think, are the ones that are always doing heavy lifting for people.

[stopfen]

It didn't feel right being paid when I did so little. Training is a pain here too. [Eventually she'll get to Cianwood...]

This guy didn't like them, the Machoke. He kept hissing.

[One day he'll have a name as well.]

Yeah, there aren't any places around here that offer strength training as grueling as what we had to go through. You'll have to improvise.

Some Pokemon are just battle-hungry. I wouldn't let him challenge a Machoke though. He's kinda... Small.

[stopfen]

[Finding time to do it with Sneasel though.]

I'm not sure if it's that. He kept trying to hide in my bag when they were around.

Oh-- Then it might be... Uh, shit. I have to look this up.

[Jean rifled through his bag for his trainer's manual, and then did a couple of searches on the Gear. Armin has taught him well on how to use his resources here.]

Okay. Sneasel is Ice and Dark type. Machoke is Fighting type. If this thing's correct, that means that Sneasel is... 4x weak to a Machoke. Maybe he was intimidated.

[stopfen]

[At least someone knows how to use it. She occasionally went out of focus or moved out of view, even if she was getting used to it.

But she has to wince because the moment Jean starts listing weaknesses, Sneasel starts yowling from his spot. He's not afraid, of anything, EVER! HMPH- Ah yes. He's sulking.]

...That seems to be it. Not that the types make sense, don't they all fight?

[Would they class as fighting types themselves?]

[Domino knickers in amusement. Someone was too big for their britches!]

Yeah, the whole type thing seems to be semantic bullshit. Like, Dark? What's that even supposed to mean? Ice I get, Electric I get. [He pointed at Domino for emphasis-- She literally had electricity in her mane, and he could feel it.] But Dark? Normal? Fighting? None of that really means anything.

[stopfen]

His fur is dark... But your one's is too. [Hm.]

The normal ones look like animals. [But the only ones she's seen where the cute ones that stayed near the earlier routes.]

[angewiesen]

Sometimes they do, but sometimes they don't. Have you seen the weird pink ones that carry eggs in pouches at the Pokemon Centers? They're definitely not like any kind of animal I've ever seen, but they're still considered "Normal".

[stopfen]

...That's a normal type not a fairy? [But Jean it's pink like the icon. What the hell is this?]

[angewiesen]

Nope. Apparently pink doesn't always mean Fairy. Like I said-- Semantic bullshit.

It doesn't look like anything I've seen before...[Wait]

Yeah, but it's got those weird... antennae things coming out the sides of its head too.

Maybe thinking too hard about it is a bad idea... On the way to the town a pink...thing with leaves on it's head jumped at me.

See, but then if it's got leaves, it might be Grass...

Looking like food is worse than looking like nothing.

I saw these guys on some signs in front of stores. I thought they were made-up, but nope. Real Pokemon.
