[Kotone had nothing against camping. It was actually a lot of fun, if you were well-prepared for it. While she had some basic amenities in the bag Mom had thrust at her before shoving her out the door, she hadn't exactly planned ahead for a multi-day trek.]

At least there's good company! [She spoke openly to the creature she now knew to be a Tepig. His excitement from the daytime seemed to taper off a bit after they'd stopped to find a place to settle down for the night, which they'd found underneath a tree in a small clearing.] It's been a big day for you, huh? Me too. To be honest? I'm exhausted!

[She wouldn't normally let herself complain so easily, but hey! It's not like anyone was listening. Unless...?]

Violet City:
[Kotone's not sure why she was surprised to find a school here. While there are the obvious differences between this world and her own, education is a staple of civilization no matter where you go! These lessons probably would have been a lot more helpful before heading out, but she's still learning a lot.

Leaning over to the person sitting beside her, she asks,] Hey, you wanna partner up for battle practice after this?

[Education is important! And, frankly, Harper finds themself learning more than they ever did at the school back home.

(Even if the topics taught here are far different than what they were allegedly learning back home. Not that they care much. They are actually learning here.)

The Fennekin in their lap perks up a bit at Kotone's question and Harper themself nods, pushing their glasses up slightly.]

Sounds good to me.

[The topics are definitely different, but they have immediate real world application so this actually feels better as far as Kotone is concerned!]

Great! Finally, I might get an answer to what happens if you fight fire with fire.

[A bad joke, barely qualifying as one in the first place. The Tepig resting by her feet grunts and headbutts her ankles for it. She soothes him by bending in her seat to stroke his head a few times.]

Oh, sorry, I didn't get your name earlier. So many folks drift in and out of the class here. I'm Kotone by the way!

[It may have been a bad joke, but Harper finds themself laughing a bit anyway. Their Fennekin lets out a soft 'tsk' and shakes her head.]

Oh, yeah, I'm Harper. Good to meet you, Kotone. [Another noise from the Fennekin, and--] Oh, yeah, and this is Princess.

Nice to meet you, Harper. And you too, Princess.

[Bending over again, she picks up her Tepig and plops him on the table in front of her, apologizing quietly when seeing how disoriented he looks.]

This little guy is Buntarou! At first, I thought "Bunta" because it sounds like "buta" (pig), but then I added "rou" with the kanji for cheerfulness.

[Buntarou gives a happy cry and hops a little circle.]

You can see why.

[Ever-ready to learn new things, Rapunzel was excited to find the trainer's school. She's got a lot to learn about being out in the world, period, and now there's these Pokemon... It's kind of overwhelming, so she's taking a lot of notes. And of course, she can't resist doodling in the margins. She kind of gets lost in this, so she's startled by the question.]

Oh! Sorry, I guess I was distracted. What did you say?

Woah! Ok, there? [It's probably not kind of Kotone to laugh after startling someone, but it happens on its own.]

I asked if you wanna pair up for battle practice today. Put what we learned into practice, y'know?

[The other girls' doodles catch her eye for a moment.] Hey, those are pretty good!

[Rapunzel laughs with a sheepish duck of her head, but her smile remains bright.]

Oh, sure! That'll be a good way to make sure the lesson sinks in.

[The compliment has her blushing just a little.] You think so? Thank you. I wish I could add some color, though.

Yeah, this stuff seems like it'll be important here. [She says this with the air of somebody who's already been in A Situation™.]

Hrm~ I'm not an artist myself but... Now I'm wondering if you could make paints from berries or something.

It does, doesn't it? [It's said with the air of somebody who's never been in any kind of Situation™.] I mean, it seems like everywhere you go someone's looking for a Pokemon battle.

And you know, I think that could work pretty well. At least until I see if some of the busier places have somewhere to get supplies; there's such a wide variety of berries growing here.

Yeah. Sometimes it feels like you can't even make eye contact with people without starting one. Battles are kind of fun, but I don't want my little guys to get hurt.

There really are a lot of them, aren't there? Remembering all the names and what each one does has been the hardest thing for me so far, to be honest.

[Rapunzel nods with a sigh.] I know what you mean... I know some clever and strong animals, and Pokemon even have powers that those don't, but it's still worrying to send them out into a fight.

But that's why we're here, right? I mean, at the school. So we can learn about berries and all the other things we can use and do to help them stay safe.

Did you even bother eating anything earlier...? It would be the only reason for being this tired this early in the afternoon.

[ rock had just been walking past when he overheard the girl's exclamation. his growlithe barked as if to agree with his trainer. eating gives energy after all. but when rock notices he's just opened his mouth, he laughs sheepishly. ]

D-Don't mind me. I just spoke out loud.

[Kotone startles a little at someone actually answering her, and even her Tepig rolls a few times before jumping to its feet with sudden alertness.]

You- ... Food.

[She'd been trying not to think about it, but now that she is, her stomach growls loudly and she gives a bashful grin.]

No, uh, you're right. I did eat before leaving New Bark, but... I just got here, so I'm not sure how careful I should be rationing.

[ his smile is weak. at least he's not dealing with violence.

but when the girl says food, and how she's being careful with her rations, rock nods and slings off his bag from his shoulder. a few moments later, and a bento-box filled with curry and rice was presented to her. ]

Here. I have some more for myself, so don't worry about it. [ at least his smile now is a little more confident. being kind was rock's strong suit. ]

[Gosh, she knows she should be at least a little hesitant to accept food from a stranger. If not for the sake of politeness, then for her own safety. But food has always been her weakness.]

Oh! That's really nice of you... Are you sure? [She asks, but her hand is visibly twitching, clearly wanting very badly to take it.]

I’m sure. It’s not poisoned or anything, if that’s what you’re thinking.

[ but he can’t blame her for her hesitancy. even he would be surprised at being offered such a nice meal out of nowhere. but as it stands, she needs the food way more than he does. ]

Oh, I wasn't trying to imply anything! I'll just- Thanks.

[She accepts the bento gratefully, mouth watering a little when she opens the lid to see what's inside.]

Gods, that looks good. [It looks like they have some of the same foods here as they do where she's from, which is reassuring.]
