Well, yes. He will certainly get stronger than he evolves. And heavier. Again, please make sure to step back when he starts to evolve. You'll recognise it pretty easily.

I will. [Maybe she was listening, unsure?] Sometimes he glows and explodes. [AKA getting close was bad.] Why'd you know?

[Armin pauses for a moment, thinking on how to phrase this. Bertolt wasn't exact a friend was he, but at the same time, could Armin think of him as an enemy knowing what he knew about what him, Annie and Reiner had gone through. Certainly they had lied to them and caused great suffering, but they hadn't really been more than tools in those decisions, hadn't they?]

Ah, someone I used to know owned a Growlithe. You've probably seen those, right? The fire-breathing dogs?

I was there when he evolved his Growlithe. Unfortunately, the Growlithe managed to get a hold of the Fire Stone before either of us noticed and well--

[A pause. A stare into the middle distance.]

I was holding it. And it was very heavy.

[smallshot]

[Oh, they're the fluffy dogs. Though she didn't have one. She just had two rock types, 10/10 team building.

She just looked at him for a good moment, blinking.] You didn't notice while holding it? ... I thought you were smart.

[Gabi, thats rude. And completely deadpan.]

[Out of the mouth of babes--]

He was very quick! It only took a second! There was nothing I could do at that point.

But why was it there if you weren't going to use it?

[schachmeister]

Oh no, we fully intended to use it! Just... not while I was still holding him.

[smallshot]

Uh-huh... [Doubt? Maybe a little bit of doubting here. But she gave a little shrug, shoulders falling.]

So it not like when people turn into titans?

[The burst of heat... ]

There is some growth for most pokemon, but nothing like a titan transformation.

Ah, apart from Wailord, I suppose. The size it increases by when it evolves rivals that of some titans.

[smallshot]

Does that mean it's strong? [Because big. Like an ant can't hurt an elephant.]

Size isn't the only measure of strength, of course, but when fully trained, they can be very strong. Mine are, at least.

[Just a bit of pride there. Not for himself, but for his beautiful big whales.]

[She'll let him be proud... For now.]

I'll beat you one day. [Puffing her chest out, she doesn't care if you're stronger now. She's gonna beat everyone's animals up with her animals.]

[Which, uh, probably not her rock pokemon.]

[Realistically, it'd be a while. But internally Gabi was ready.

Though his comment does make her turn to look at the still flexing geodude.]

Do...rocks breathe? [It had eyes and a mouth. But no butt, she wasn't even sure if she had to feed this one. ]

They absolutely breathe.

[Saying this with not only a lot of certain but also a slightly undertone of 'please don't chuck your rocks into the water to check'.]

Plus, even if they didn't, you wouldn't really want to bring your rock pokemon to a gym themed around water, right?

[Please tell him you understand the basics of pokemon strength and weaknesses.]

[She wasn't going to throw her rock into the water. She liked him. But maybe some random rock if she found another...]

I guess, they're bad with water... [Thinking, she'd read that part of the manual at least? She'd just skipped the boring breeding part and stuff not related to fighting.] But I only have them...

[She'd not seen anything good against water yet. Not really.]

You know, there are a few pokemon that are both rock and water type. Maybe those would be interesting to you? They won't necessarily be strong against other water types, but at least they aren't weak to them either.

Why would I use them instead of one of the...thunder pokemon?

Oh, one of those would be good at well. Some people like to train many different kinds of pokemon, and some people prefer to stick to a single type. You seem to really like your rock pokemon, so I thought you might be more like the second kind.

[smallshot]

I only have two. [Two rocks? Two pokemon? We just don't know.] I want to be good at fighting.

[schachmeister]

If you have a lot of different types, you'll definitely have an advantage when fighting.

If you want, I could breed you a pokemon. I have a lot of water pokemon, but I've got some other types too. And some of them are cool. Well, I think they are cool.

[Armin should never be the arbiter of what is and is not cool.]

[smallshot]

I think mine are cool. [Oh no, she's smirking again. And the geodude is pausing his flexing to grin and rub his...head? Body? What a bashful guy. Gabi's idea of cool was Reiner, rugged. Rocks just happened to fit that a lot.

But she stares at Armin, looking at him. Does he feel judged? His coolness is being evaluated.]

... Miss Mikasa thinks you're cool. [And Gabi thought Mikasa was cool so somehow that meant Armin had taste? Somehow?]

[schachmeister]

[He'd probably be a cooler guy if he didn't bashfully rub the back of his neck for a moment at that.]

Does she really? She never told me that.

[Obviously Mikasa liked him! He just... didn't think she thought he was particularly cool.]

[Oh look, he matched her geodude. Not that Gabi noticed, she was too busy nodding.]

She listens to you and everyone listens to her.

[If Mikasa is boss and he is Mikasa's boss, then he is the bigger boss, yes. Logic.]

Mikasa does have a way of making everybody fall in line.
