I must admit, I am curious as to the answer of this as well!

[The man replying to her is dark-skinned and yellow-eyed, his head as bald as an egg. He seems to be dressed rather like a pirate might be--or at least, he has an eyepatch and a feathered, broad-brimmed hat.]

Unfortunately, I have only been translated to this plane myself! [The man who's speaking is dark-skinned and yellow-eyed and also as bald as an egg. He wears an eye-patch and a broad-brimmed, feathered hat. It's all very piratical.]

Did your pet also originate from within a parti-colored orb?

You as well, then.

[Unconsciously, his hand drifts up to where the very tip of his ear should be. Instead, it alights on empty air, and he has to remind himself to draw his hand inward. There's a faint, vaguely noteworthy point to his ears, but otherwise they are painfully short.

His hearing, of course, has suffered as well. Though perhaps that's just the incessant music in the background.]

I mean

Oh wow that sure is. That sure is Aymeric de Borel on the cool network thing with a...bird? Nesting in his hair? That is the fluffiest looking bird in all the worlds, isn't it? That sure is Aymeric de Borel, Lord Speaker for the House of Lords and Lord Commander of the Temple Knights of Ishgard just. Here, all of a sudden. Just like G'raha was - er, is.

Wh. What does he say, he can't just leave the man adrift without answers, but not only does G'raha have so little of them himself, he's only really interacted with the other man briefly as a Scion, he's...he wouldn't recognize G'raha, probably, and it'll be awkward, and oh he wants to ask so many questions about the end of the Dragonsong War and particulars about the rebuilding of Ishgard and-

Okay, no. Breathe, G'raha. In through the nose, out through the mouth, and slowly. Then turn your video on.]

If there is a way to return to Eorzea, then it is not known to me. In truth, there is much about this star I have to learn, and I sadly cannot offer much knowledge of it. But in that, at least, I can offer some camraderie.

[It's gonna be okay Aymeric you'll be fiiine]

[If Riz didn't know any better, he might have thought this guy was related to Fabian in some way. Between the dark skin, pirate garb and the easy charm of his attitude, he could easily be an uncle of his. However, Riz has met Fabian's elven family members and the pirate thing had definitely not come from there.

Also, Fabian is not a dark elf. Half-dark elf.

That said, if this guy is a dark elf, he might be from their world as well, and Riz is certainly curious about that. If nothing else, it'd be good to find people to bitch with about how weird this world is.

So, Jarlaxle will be contacted by a dapper-looking boy(?) who, as always, looks like he's at the tail-end of a long period without sleep.]

Can't say I've ever heard of someone by that name, but have you ever heard of Solace maybe? Or Leviathan?

[If this guy is a pirate and from Riz's world, he must know Leviathan.]

[Ah, time to roll a history check.]

Leviathan... that was a great sea behemoth, a black-skinned whale, who prowled the waters near the Moonshaes, yes? Defeated something like a century and a half ago?

Solace... there used to be tower by that name in Neverwinter, I think?

[Though their meetings were brief, fraught with more the more pressing matter of towers and peace talks (never mind the shrieking Sahagin), and conducted with little time for introduction, Aymeric requires little more than a passing second to recognize the face on his feed. Having been seated across from the Miqo'te on both occasions, he would have had plenty of time to memorize, if nothing else, his features.

But there is another reason he recognizes the man. Though Aymeric suspected he might never truly understand the breadth of the business tended to by the Scions, as one of the leaders of the Alliance-turned-Grand-Company, he was certainly privy to more than the average soul. And by the Fury, how he had poured over the reports that had followed the Scions return from the so-called shard. From the First.

He would know G'raha Tia, formerly the Crystal Exarch and Savior of Aymeric's own personal champion, in an instant.]

I suppose I can rest at ease, knowing that I have not only a fellow Eorzean in my midst, but a Scion of the Seventh Dawn at that. [Aymeric's lips curl up, almost verging on a smirk.] It would seem fate will continue to keep us from having a proper meeting. Always business with our bunch, t'would seem.

[She chuckled a little, and nodded. They certainly did have a kind of charm to them. She'd been considering adopting one.

She settled in and nodded at his comment.]

It definitely is. I was rather startled by the whole thing. Waking up, having some strange woman claim to be my mother before pushing me out the door with nothing more than a creature I knew nothing about and a small pack of supplies. But, this world is actually quite nice. I've been able to relax here.

[But his next comment got a curious expression from her, and she nodded.]

Ah... yes, I am. You know of them? [That would mean he was likely from some version of her world, then.]

[The other man notes this gesture, feeling a twinge of sympathy. His own ears are not what they once were.]

Toril, as it happens. I have never heard of Hydaelyn—still, there is much of the planar systems I know but little about. What sort of folk were you before this translation to human?—I myself was a dark elf, although one who only wishes to live a peaceful and honest life upon the surface.

[This is, of course, rotheshit.]

ourstosee: (All these questions in your gut)

[personal profile] ourstosee 2022-02-24 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's another lengthy period of silence. Aymeric's brows draw together, knit in thought rather than suspicion. Toril, of course, is an unfamiliar name. But the distinction he draws, as well as the name he uses, catch his attention all the same. Until very recently, "elf" had been an unfamiliar term. Elezen was the proper nomenclature when referring to his kind, further distinguished between Wildwood and Duskwight.

And yet, on a Shard of his own home, the term "elf" had taken root instead. And though he has little cause to believe it related, he tucks this away all the same. If nothing else, once everything was said and done, he might have information to present to the Scions.

But that would be a matter for later. For now - ]

Elezen. Not too dissimilar from you, it would seem.

Elezen. [He savors the unfamiliar word on his tongue.] I believe the ancestors of my kind were called eladrin, so yes, the name is similar. A gracile folk with pointed ears and natural spans of several centuries?

Halone, I could only imagine the hells Eorzea would be in if my kind managed to live for centuries. [Is his laugh just a little bitter? Maybe. Perhaps if they had been graced with extended life, they might have been just an onze more capable of understanding the plight of the Dragonkin.]

Our lifespans are slightly extended compared to some of those we share our star with, yet simultaneously dwarfed by others. Maturation occurs at a slightly slower rate as well.

[For all Riz knows, Jarlaxle rolled a Nat 20 on his History check. This could all be totally true and perhaps even valuable historical knowledge for whatever plane he comes from. Unfortunately, it doesn't apply to Riz's plane.]

Uh, maybe? I was thinking of a different Leviathan and Solace, but I guess we are not from the same plane after all. I think someone like you would've heard of Leviathan if you were from where I am from.

My people mature swiftest when we are full young. At adolescence, our aging slows to the leisurely pace it maintains until our deaths.

That said—just because we have a long natural span does not mean we often live it out fully. With dark elves such as I, it is a fortunate drow who makes it to the end of his second century.

[It is, actually, totally true, for what it's worth. Straight from the Forgotten Realms wiki.]

Ah, well, I suppose it makes little sense that all of us would necessarily be stolen away from the same plane.

Still, it is a pleasure to make new acquaintances, especially in such a curious realm as this. Were you similarly translated from another form or are you a natural born human?

“Probably to punish me for my Mom’s death.” Really, it was the only thing Ichigo could come up with. Never mind that his parents had never told him about hollows or how to identify them. Never mind that he’d been a child of nine. Surely, his father’s training methods were also part of the punishment as well.

[Riz's face scrunches for a moment.]

No, I'm a goblin.

[He keeps his attention on Jarlaxle as he says it, curious to see if he has any specific reaction to that. As a dark elf, he should know what a goblin is, and if he's one of those that look down on them, he'd rather know immediately.]

I gotta say, you are taking this whole thing really well.

[A lot better than Riz had taken it.]

[Jarlaxle blinks.

A young boy so well-spoken is not something he would have expected out of goblinkind... and yet, was his own race not similarly maligned? Granted, the drow of Menzoberranzan had fully earned the emnity of other folk, but he knew better now than to believe that race was destiny.

Perhaps this boy was the Drizzt Do'Urden of goblins. Or perhaps he was from a plane where goblins dwelt peacefully alongside other folk. No matter.]

Ah.

[He shakes his head.]

In truth, I've already lived through so many strange circumstances—what is one more in all my centuries? And too, I pride myself on my ability to keep my head in situations such as this.

[Ah, yes, the benefit of living centuries. In truth, Riz had also lived through and dealt with more than most at his age -- visits to heaven and hell, dragon attacks during prom, crazy nights on a pirate island-- but he's still only sixteen, so it's probably only a shade of what this man has seen.

Also, Riz is high strung and probably wouldn't have reacted well to this even if he had had the benefit of centuries worth of life.]

I guess that explains it.

Anyway, my name is Riz Gukgak. I'll send you a link to one of my business cards in a moment. [If they had been meeting in person, Jarlaxle would've been presented with a physical copy of it, but with how frequently he's meeting people via this odd network, Riz had had to adjust slightly.] You said your name was... [No.]

Human and without any magic. The first would have sufficed as punishment enough.
